JA granted temporary restraining order against NCAA eligibility rules

I caught all kinds of heck here for saying "Heupel isn't all in on G-Mac" because he seemed to pursue Simpson and Leavitt.

Now, he spoke up in court for Joey A, apparently also.

But all those VN folks who insisted Heupel was fine with G-Mac, that G-Mac would be at least as good as Joey if not better, that Heupel is just looking and doesn't really want another QB and that G-Mac and Faizon were completely ready and able to lead us in 2026.

Poof. They've all finished peeing on my leg and suddenly it's not raining anymore.
CJH and crew went after other QB's. I think he probably would've rolled with GMac if he had to but I'm pretty sure he's seen the writing on the wall that other teams have and that's playing time trumps the unknown.

But as far as all the people saying I'm Team GMac or we should roll with GMac and Brandon, we're good.
I remember all the post right after Nico jumped ship saying I'm Team Merk, lets roll with Merk and GMac we don't need another QB and by the end of the season it was Merk sucks and he needs to transfer. Of course my response when we signed Joey to all the people that were saying Merk would be the starter, Joey's got college playing experience, that beats out some star ranking with no experience

With fans it's whatever direction the wind blows....If JA drops his suit tomorrow and says he's going out into the business world then fans will be back on the GMac is 'The Man' bandwagon. Lol.

If you truly don't think some 21 year old that got drafted in the 5th round, signed, bounced between high A and AA isn't eventually going to pull a Charles Bediako and try to go to school, then I've got some ocean front property in Blount County to sell you...

Guy played 10 games in the NBA and played G League for 2 yrs, wants to come back for his last year
These are the cases that people should be worried about. Not the ones saying JUCO years shouldn't count

Hahahahah you are absolutely correct.

Also CJH spoke up for Joey in court? Wow!! That’s awesome!
I don't think CJH spoke up for JA in court. I may have missed it but it's probably implied in the filing that Joey lawyer made when he said UT wants him back and has a home for him.

The issue is the legal erosion as we saw with NIL and transfers.

That worked for him in court? Let me try this......

As I said earlier, it's never "just this guy can do it" in the end, it's a broken dam situation. First a tiny hole and the next thing you know the whole thing collapses.

I like Joey and he is a good player in this system. My only pause in this is does he give us a better chance or does GMac? How about down the road? This would be Joey's last ride in Knoxville and if he returns, do we lose GMac or Faizon as a result? Heupel has to make the right call here or it could really cause a problem long term. What if both GMac and Faizon decide nah, I want to start, and leave? Then we have Joey and the dude from Colorado. And there's no guarantee Joey gets to play in the fall. Lawyers might drag this out, preventing him from playing while absorbing practice reps from the rest. It is a tough situation.

Thanks, well there you have it. Out of the Coaches mouth.
Reading that I dare say GMac and Brandon already knew the deal and how CJH felt back while the portal was still an option and GMac chose not to enter it.
As far as the Vols go, Joey A coming back is much better than rolling with G-Mac or Faizon, IMO, so it's definitely the right move for us.

For college football, all of this sucks and having your roster decided by a court ruling is just icky, for want of a better term.

I think G-Mac might actually be as close to a VFL as we're going to see from now on. I hope he gets some SEC snaps this year.

They can't leave. The portal is closed and they aren't in it. There's only one portal now.

And almost everyone - not all, but most - is falling over themselves to push him aside. Give a Tennessee kid who was highly touted a chance to show what he can do? In this sport? Not on your life.

They can't just unenroll and go someplace else? There's no legally binding contract, correct?
It'll be too late to drop/add at many schools AND they've likely signed revenue sharing contracts with UT by now which ARE binding to some extent as we saw with the kid Kiffin tried to get from WA? and the Mensah lawsuit at Duke.

It ain't that easy now that it's a business.

Coach even says he's willing to testify...

Added a nopay wall link

My bad. We have a Tennessean subscription, I guess.

What happens if it’s overturned, do we forfeit all wins?

Won't happen... TN lawyers will keep pushing it back if necessary until the season is over

At that point the lawsuit becomes moot and will be dismissed

GMac and Brandon are stuck playing for UT this year. Only one portal.
Pretty sure Brandon knows he wasn't starting this year anyway so if GMac does leave and Brandon is next Peyton that some believe then he'd be starting next year. Honestly I think they both knew CJH was backing Joey to come back.
The dude from Co is probably going to be the odd man out to be honest.
As for the lawyers, they won't be able to drag it out, Joey is asking for immediate relief, Judge has already given him a TRO and he'll know within the next 15 days if he gets his injunction to play this year but the court case won't be heard until after the season.

They cannot play at another NCAA school for the 2026 season. Tennessee is the only place, other than a JUCO, that they could attend and play.
And they'd be bone headed to go to JUCO unless they REEEEALLY want to bet on themselves and play but they'd lose the NIL and going to JUCO there is no guarantee you get back to D1 without floating around. If I was GMac, I'm rolling with TN. Joey goes down he's most likely next man up and then it's up to him to show he deserved to be QB1 or at least gets to pad his resume for the portal

In the old days, freshmen couldn't play at all but even after that for years guys "waited their turn" usually to play skilled positions. It's only more recently in football when "two and done" guys wanted to play ASAP.

G-Mac may see life more like the Manning philosophy because I don't think his family is hurting for resources and needs him to get his money in the league quickly.

Still, the quickness of those on VN to flip flop to Joey from G-Mac makes me think there's a bunch of politicians in here.

CO dude is already a winner, though, because he got out of the sideshow that Prime could create at any moment there.

At least Josh and Co WILL work with his fundamentals and such which by looking at Sanders in the NFL...... uh, might not have happened at CO.

it still sends a bad message to the QB locker room
Losing sends a worse message. I totally get the allure of a shiny new toy but if you guys actually care about winning football games we are without a doubt a better team with him than without. I like the young guys a lot but I want to win. Now. Joey gives us a much much better chance than any other option. He’d be someplace on preseason all conference team. “You play to win the game”

I think if we get Joey one more year, that would be the best option, especially after he's had his surgery. He brings good leadership, toughness, selflessness and maturity. He's a hell of a role model for faizon. Better continuity as he can pass it straight to faizon. I just think gmac needs to transfer.

We live in an age where these kids won't hang around even when you do right by them. I know gmac has, but Joey is a better option in my opinion. He is what's best for the program overall.
