JA granted temporary restraining order against NCAA eligibility rules

Exactly if George or Faizon are ready to go they will beat out Joey. You put the best guys in your qb room and let the fight it out and prove who’s best. I do think George will be a good qb for us or someone else even if he gets beat out this year. People think we owe something to George though; you’re just not promised a starting position on the field. Even if you do that stupid crap it doesn’t mean a player will be “loyal” to you.
I think you may have hit the nail on the head. People seem to think we owe George something especially being a TN kid

We both may be stuck on our respective points. Joey withdrew from the federal lawsuit and elected to pursue his case in a state court. I'm merely wondering if there may be some unintended consequences associated with that decision. As a practical matter, the NCAA would probably never take such a position, so don't bother telling me I'm tilting at windmills. But, aside from your steadfast assertions, I wonder if there is a legal reason why the NCAA could not take such a position. I'm not asking about Arkansas, or any other state, taking a position.
Joey was on Pavia's case and yes he started his own in state where you're likely to have a favorable ruling. I need to go back an review Pavia case. I think they amended it to argue NCAA allowing Pro players to play so that means JUCO players should play. I may be mixing that one with another case though

But for the legal reason I already gave you the legal reason why the NCAA can't do what you asked. In simple terms a Judge has told them they can't.

Which will help GM. We know what we are getting with Joey. This will help the young guys develop and be ready to go if something helps to QB1. It’s a great situation.

If it all comes into place it’s the best situation we could’ve hoped for at QB.

If this case gets settled in the next 12 months I'll be astonished. The courts move about as fast as your average glacier.
That's why his attorney move the case from federal court to state court
Things will move faster now

Seems the NCAA missed their reply time frame - the judge ruled before they replied.

Based on what I am reading their reply alluded to the disadvantage to high school players - yet they had no concerns with letting basketball players who have been to the pros back into college.

The NCAA is going to continue to lose control until they address the issues in an agreeable and legal manner - right now they are just reacting to whatever is thrown their way and they react inconsistently.

He’s not cleared yet, but this is a great early step. We need an experienced QB this season. No more rolling the dice with inexperienced freshmen. First time Heupel would have had the same QB in back to back years since Hooker. I know some people want to see GMac play, but the only thing that matters in this new era of CFB is winning. And you do that with older, experienced players.
In a perfect world, Joey would start and GMac would get plenty of meaningful game snaps this year

For me it's the cognitive dissonance of only just a few days ago, I was pressured and persuaded by many here to "go all in on G-Mac because he's going to be our starter."

I had started to embrace the kid as our guy for next year.

Now, many of those same people are shouting "Joey is our guy!"

I daresay if Joey HADN'T gotten his TRO and likely the injunction and I'd began posting "I dunno about G-Mac......" I would have been dragged all over Volnation for being a nega who can't support our QB.

Just wake me up when the next shiny thing shifts everyone away from the last shiny thing.

I am wondering if JG can still hit the portal after this ruling? Also wondering what the 2-5 star qb's would think about his coming back after seeing last years backup get very limited playing time behind AG. UT needs to make up its mind if they will get their starter from the portal, which I agree with, or continue to recruit top QB's each season. I don't think you can do both.
Portal is closed for football until next January

Does anyone have an accurate count on the number of posters in here who didn't go back to the RF when the portal closed?

I only ask because we seem to still have way too many spirited conversations in here. It was much more civil during football season

It wasn't me 😎. I think you and I have had friendly back and forths on this and eligibility in this and other threads and in those post I've always said if Joey can come back I wanted him and I also said I think he'd win his case as he had a good argument. I also said even before the article the other day about Joeys filing that Joey just didn't file for this without talking to the coaching staff, AD and probably UT lawyers, I think he knew he had their blessing in that TN said hey we want you back but understand we also have to look at other options, you win and you have a home, depending on if we get a top guy, you can still return but you may not win the starting spot. There were others that said he didn't have a case. 😁

I do get where you're coming from. You accepted GMac was the guy and then Pow not so fast my friend. Joeys back HAHAH

For the record, I think Joey A has a case here but I'll be side eyeing all you guys when UT faces a nearly 30yo QB playing his 9th year of college ball and y'all start with "This is ruining college football......"

Just like we were all in on Donde and the TN Attorney General giving the NCAA hell over our recruiting techniques with Nico, until recruiting turned really messy and Ohio State starts flipping our guys with shady tricks or Miami goes shady to get Mensah into the portal.

When it happens to us, you guys will cry like kicked dogs that "the system is broken."

It is broken and you like it today. Just remember that tomorrow.
DUDE----tomorrow never comes o_O o_O o_O o_O

If two 5 star QBs are threatened by a returning 0 star, maybe they need to move on.

As long as its an open and fair competition for the starting position, this is positive
With hype backing the lawsuit if he is, Joey will start regardless of how well others perform. I read somewhere Joey is in the portal, don’t know if that’s correct or not, but if true he willl ask for more money

What happens if it’s overturned, do we forfeit all wins?
By the time this case is actually heard the season will be over and no the wins will not be forfeited because at the time of the games being played he was eligible to play those games

So where does this end? It seems hypothetically, a guy could play college football as long as they want to if we're basing on the fact that the players is being denied a way to make an earning. Where is that line?
It's no different than someone graduating high school and joining the military for 4 years and then starting college at 22. It happens more than you think. MLB has a draft for high school baseball players every year. Many of them turn Pro and play in the minors for a number of years and then attend college to play sports other than baseball.
The lines have been blurred for years.

He's not in the portal, he's enrolled at TN. He was out of eligibility so he couldn't enter and the portal is now closed so he can't enter with the TRO and I firmly believe he had talked to CJH and UT staff about returning if he could get an extra year and they all blessed it.

Why not? Colleges are full of adult students. I didn't get my second undergrad degree and my master's until I was far past my early 20's, was married, had a family, and worked a full time job.

I wasn't a college athlete but why should the athletes be discriminated against simply fir being an athlete, or for their age?
I want literal Father Time to suit up for us. Let’s go all in. Lol jkjk

Seriously I have no issue with JA getting another year. To me it’s very simply him playing his 4th and final year of D1 football. That’s it. Juco doesn’t count. That’s fair.

I caught all kinds of heck here for saying "Heupel isn't all in on G-Mac" because he seemed to pursue Simpson and Leavitt.

Now, he spoke up in court for Joey A, apparently also.

But all those VN folks who insisted Heupel was fine with G-Mac, that G-Mac would be at least as good as Joey if not better, that Heupel is just looking and doesn't really want another QB and that G-Mac and Faizon were completely ready and able to lead us in 2026.

Poof. They've all finished peeing on my leg and suddenly it's not raining anymore.

Yeah, baseball is way different. That can never happen.
If you truly don't think some 21 year old that got drafted in the 5th round, signed, bounced between high A and AA isn't eventually going to pull a Charles Bediako and try to go to school, then I've got some ocean front property in Blount County to sell you...

Hahahahah you are absolutely correct.

Also CJH spoke up for Joey in court? Wow!! That’s awesome!
