Is History repeating itself?

I'm not so sure that Oklahoma is Heupel's dream job. Stoops fired him and they've been cold ever since then. Oklahoma chose Lincoln Riley over Heupel. He seems to be genuinely peeved about all that. He wants to prove everyone wrong, just like he did when he was a college QB and major schools ignored him.

What could possibly prove everyone wrong more than restoring Tennessee to greatness? He'd basically been doing exactly what Stoops did at Oklahoma.

Besides, people forget that Heupel was only at OU for 1 year. He went to school at Weber State then Snow College. Think he was a 5th year player by the time he played at Oklahoma.
He played 2 years at Oklahoma he last lost to Ole Miss before they didn't loose again and he won the National championship the next year and was a Heisman finalist.

As I said in the last Heupel OU thread, unless CJH wins 9 games or more, he won't even be on OU's list. They'd be more likely to try and poach Pittman, Fickel, or maybe even Matt Campbell.

Seriously? Good God you must be miserable living life looking for every worst case scenario.

If the OU job did open up, I’m not sure that Heupel would be very high on their list. That’s not a judgement on his coaching ability, more of a reflection on how good of a job Oklahoma is and the type of candidates that they can attract.
If they ended up hiring heupel, that would mean their search went very wrong

I'm not too sure about OU being his dream job. He doesn't seem like that type of person. He lives in the moment and appears to be a loyal individual. I guess we'll see. I also agree with @ClearwaterVol that the OU job will lose some of it's appeal when they join the SEC and stop producing 11 win seasons. It will be another Auburn or Florida, and if he truly does build something at Tennessee he will be less likely to leave it for what could essentially be a lateral move.

This won't happen, but even if it does, we would be in a far better position to hire a coach after this season than we were when we snagged Heupel.

Maybe Jamey Chadwell gets his call? Who knows, it could be the beginning of something beautiful.

Lets be clear, if OU opened up and they were interested in Heupel, he would listen to them.....but I have a feeling he is becoming more of a VOL after each game.....

Double Voodoo on you! May the fleas of 10,000 camels infest your armpits. May you live for 100 years with an itchy butt hole and ingrown nose hairs.

Fooey on you!!!
And may the bird of paradise fly up the op's nose. Gracious! Let's avoid it all by burning Neyland down.

Some folks just find ways to think negative all the time. Take care of business this week Vols, one game at a time!!!! GBO!!!!!

I get the sense that Heupel is having a blast here. Plus, even with UT Fans‘ high expections, the absolute disaster of the Three Stooges we have had at HC does give him at least a brief breathing space. I think he knows that at Ok, he would be expected to produce results immediately. So I don’t SEE him leaving for OK, but then again, I didn’t see Kiff bolting, even for USC, so maybe I am not the best prognosticator here 😂

There’s an opportunity to make this program HIS legacy. He’d always be judged by recent examples Stoops and Riley. We haven’t had a technically superior HC since Doug Dickey (Kiffin had a chance but was hit or miss in his brief audition). Oklahoma can’t outspend us even when they join in the SEC Network largesse. All this is moot and contingent on building upon success…so long way to go.
