The key word in this is "implicated." I have been implicated in some pretty messed up stuff and thats just by my wife. Anybody can say anything. That being said, our last coach was, hands down, the greatest in the country at drawing attention to himself and to the program. The problem was, IMHO, I think he honestly believed that any attention was good. However, he was not an idiot. He either thought Cecil was being too cavalier about the process or he didnt like the price. Which, btw, if you had started a thread on VN the night before NSD and could guarantee everyone on here that we could pay a player $175K and guarantee we would have another crystal football in the case by next January, you would have had it within a couple of hours. Well, our last coach would have paid it out of his pocket just as quickly. Cam may be the only one other than him that knows whether he was really offered and, if so, how much was offered. This is all a big lie, for money or notoriety…and let me explain why I think so:
When the police are investigating something, they always ask those involved to explain what happened multiple times. If the person says the same story 10 times and none of the facts change within the story, most likely they are telling the truth. If they tell the story 10 times and little details seem to change from story to story or facts get distorted, their most likely lying or making it up...
Moore keeps changing the story and his facts. Moore is quoted as saying in two different radio interviews that he has heard the tapes. Most glaringly, however, in one interview he claims Tennessee offered 150k for Cam...in the second interview he claims Tennessee offered 200k for Cam.... Thats some fuzzy numbers in my book and isn’t holding water.

Just some more Alabama propaganda. UT received a letter of infractions this week and there is no mention of such. It also does not match up with the real facts and the parties making the claim only make generalizations without naming principals involved.

This will go on for a year or two in the Alabama media so they can sell air time on Finbaum's show.

Seems that the price changes everytime Moore goes to the tweak hut for a hit of meth. Like the first article by the OP asks ... Which one is it? $150,000 or $200,000? I will go as far to say that Cecil isn't even as bad as the scum reporting this story. Cecil may be pimping his son , but he isn't being tossed in jail for beating his wife and not paying child support. Scott Moore makes Mr. Newton look like Ward Cleaver.

Not really. Moore said that Newton claimed Tennessee offered $150K then upped their offer to $200K, so there's no inconsistency from either Moore or what he is saying Newton relayed.

But for the lack of ethics of Kiffin and the perception of a rogue program created by Pearl, and Hamilton's hiring and sticking by both of them during their tenure here, this story wouldn't have legs. It does, because of who was at Tennessee at the time. Doesn't make it true, but does show how badly our reputation has been damaged by Hammy's handling of Pearl and hiring of Kiffin.

I always assumed Auburn paid. But I decided I didnt want them caught, just to make up for the Great Shaft of 2004.

Try not to employ too much logic, there, or the Kiffin kiddies will have a heart attack. They can't consistently argue Kiffin is a great talent evaluator and, at the same time, claim he only passed on Newton because he thought Newton didn't have more talent than Matt Simms.

1. So the coaches who bragged about Reggie Bush and used Bush at their principal recruiting tool at both USC and here would be deeply bothered by Cam & his father's reputation, eh?

2. So why did the Blinn coaches report in May of 2009 that we were the most aggressive recruiters of Newton at the time?

3. Do you really think character was a big turn-off for Kiffin or Orgeron? Seriously? In the 2nd half, he torched the defense, and his coach swore by him to anyone who would listen, so that story has no legs, especially for a program recruiting Ambles and others at the same time.

4. Nor was Phillip Sims or Jake Heap in such a system, two of our other top QB targets.

5. But Nukeese was a great fit for our system, right? If you can't fit talents like Cam Newton into your system, you need to change your system.

So why is Newton a top-10 NFL draft prospect if he "can't fit" into a pro-style offense?

Or, as was already pointed out, maybe there were more factors involved than just the two options pointed out above. Of course you know the situation wasn't quite that simple, you're just upset that our punishment won't quite be as bad as that of SMU and you're lashing out. Very mature of you both.

I'm not willing to engage in Alabama-style delusions to defend what is evidently bad character in our leadership at the time.

I would rather have no punishment, and the best way for that would have to been have hired someone other than Kiffin, Pearl, and the AD who hired them both, Hamilton. The best way to stem the tide now would be to fire Hamilton & Pearl.

I never said it had to be one of the reasons I stated. Just pointing out there are more options than you and Gibbs are claiming. I'm not a fan of Kiffin and have yet to defend him, so your "Kiffinite" jab is - you ready for this - inaccurate. Maybe we got outbid, I don't know, I'm not claiming to either. Just pointing out there were tons of variables in play in the whole situation, and only a few know the whole story. You, Gibbs, or Moore are not one of those people.

I got this story a long time ago from someone other than Scott Moore, and it has been circulated in many circles of many credible people for quite some time long before Moore went public with it.

Exactly. Moreover, I can't see why anyone for UT would care to propagate it for any reason.

I'm all for firing Hamilton, but this story won't even help with that noble cause. :hi:
