From Mr. SEC.com - Tennessee implicated on some tapes...

And thats why we recruited the other Sims so long (another clearly non-pro-style QB), right? Kiffin was only good at 1 thing -- lying.

How's all that evidence coming along about us trying to pay Cam. You claimed it was well known by several people you know. I was convinced it would only be a matter of days before all manner of violations would be levied. Any sort of credible evidence to back this up, or were you just running down the University because of a personal grudge you have?

You're lying. I never said it was "well known" we tried to pay Cam. What I said was "well known" was the Cecil had told people we had offered $ for his son's recruitment. Whether Cecil is lying or not is another story.

I feel like you're lying right now.

I got this story a long time ago from someone other than Scott Moore, and it has been circulated in many circles of many credible people for quite some time long before Moore went public with it.

If not "well known", then how would you describe a story that "has been circulated in many circles"? Sounds sort of "well known" to me. The argument at hand was wether Cecil was making it up to get a better price (like most people agreed upon), or if Kiffin really offered. You, Gibbs, and Moore claimed he must've offered. When it was pointed out how unreliable Moore's "reporting" is, you came up with the quote above.

This should be zero surprise. Several people on here were saying it was obvious we were involved by our sudden & bogus explanations for dropping our recruitment of him, right around the time the NCAA cam sniffing around. But the Kiffin kiddies said that just "couldn't" be true and attacked anyone who pointed out the obvious pattern.

So, we wanted to engage in some shady recruiting, but got scared.

Then you skipped his recruitment. We leaked the fact we were aggressively targeting Newton in May, continued to target him throughout summer, then suddenly dropped him at the time the NCAA came sniffing around, with one of the lamest pretexts I've ever heard (though the story was evolving and constantly changing) -- how we didn't want him because he didn't play 1 half of a game we went to see. Anyone who bought that should have had their head examined.

FYI -- this story has been out there since the late fall of 2009 in enough circles that it didn't take much to have heard it, and have heard the $200,000 figure in particular.

So we were after him pretty heavy, offering $200,00, until the 'AA came sniffing around.

We disagree as to why. Possibilities include:

1) We lost out in the Newton pay-for-play "sweepstakes" (after all, many of the posters on this site, claim it's "obvious" Auburn is "guilty" and "must have" paid Newton to get him to commit there);
2) We got cold feet when the NCAA came sniffing around in the early fall of 2009;
3) We decided Matt Simms was so much better than Newton that Simms deserved an offer and Newton didn't.

I consider #2 the most plausible of the 3.

We all know number 3 is not the case, so we either got outbid, or we were going to offer and got scared.

Who's the liar here?

So did we offer him $125,000, $150,000, or $200,000, because all of these people "implicating" us have said all three of these numbers. That tends to indicate a false story.

Rumors going around that the radio host (Scott Moore, Huntsville) who claiming to have heard the tapes and promised to play them has been fired.

Still Kiffin. Kiffin & O were easily capable of trying to buy players; they just let agents and marketers do it for them at USC.

Capable? Maybe. Then again, Fulmer is "capable" of having a sex change operation and prostituting himself to asian businessmen. Doesn't really mean he would have the inclination to do so. The problem is, you didn't say, "I think Kiffin is capable of buying players". You said you heard over a year ago that Kiffin did try to pay Cam, then when questioned (after Moore's story had been debunked), you stated you didn't actually believe the stories in the first place. My question is, why put that out there if you didn't think that it was true? You heard a story you wanted to be true, and you threw some crap against the wall that didn't stick.

That is no argumentat all. If people were convicted on the basis of things that lie within their capabilities then everyone on this planet would be in jail. You have nothing.

Didn't want it to be true at all, for obvious reasons. What was most relevant is that it could easily have been true (we'll likely never know the full story) because of the kind of coaching staff we had at the time. Let me make it clear -- it's because they are inclined to cheat, and in fact, are cheaters. They only get caught some of the time. That's what I think of Kiffin & crew.

Unless of course the allegations are about some other program (say Auburn), and then suddenly it's "obvious" they cheated and their fans are "idiots" for not seeing the "obvious."

Good luck finding anyone to buy that one. The truth is you're dying for the hammer to fall on Kiffin, UT football, Bruce Pearl, UT basketball, Raleigh, baseball, and anything else that will make Mike Hamilton look bad. That mean man never should have fired your hero.

He and gibbs both.

Please let it stop. Cam Newton should be banned from the nfl..I hope the Titans don't get him. He would be a bigger problem than VY.

What would be the basis of a lawsuit?

Supposedly the tapes will be analyzed by voice experts tomorrow. Who cares if Cecil mentions UT? It proves nothing except that Cecil was trying to make Cam’s buyer move faster and/or pay more. It happens all the time (Buy now or these others will). Doesn’t mean it’s true.

Since you always ask this. Slander and defamation(don't know if this can be used with a business.) I'm a marketing guy. It's ok to be "ignant" to this. Only if I'm wrong though.

People seem quick to play the “he should sue card” (i.e., UT should sue if Cecil mentioned UT on a tape, Pearl should sue if Tressel does not get punished hard, etc). I am curious to know if they are knowledgeable or just lawsuit happy.

Regarding your point, I think both would require UT to show that Cecil acted with malicious intent. I doubt that could be proved. Do you think he did?

At least his hero did great things at and for UT!

Yours screwed us and you love him for it!

I don't want Kiffin to die, but aside from that I don't really care what happens to him now that's he's not our coach. Vegas Vol is for a UT apocalypse as long as Phil isn't back as our coach.

Which explains the difference; most of us are UT fans first . Some are Fulmer fans first.

What are you bamasucks?

Not sure what you are after, but of course a UT fan first. I also want Fulmer to get the respect he deserves. Surely you're not saying that is putting Fulmer first. Bashing PF for the end of his career and ignoring or forgetting the great things is just ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is watching the same people defend Kiffin, who did nothing but harm us. I liked Kiffin, but since UT obviously comes first, I hate him now for what he did and who he is. Fulmer had UT at the level we want to be for many years. Of course I want more success from DD, but if you were told DD was going to accomplish what PF did, most would accept that gladly, no? That makes me a realist and not a Fulmerite, which surely you werent accusing me of!
