From Mr. SEC.com - Tennessee implicated on some tapes...

Hmmm. I think vegasvol is really a vandy fan. That loves to start arguments.

Why would Tennessee offer $150,000 to someone they didn't even offer a scholarship?

Cam Newton - Lane Kiffin says Cam Newton didn't ask for money while he was coaching at Tennessee - Los Angeles Times

Scout also has UT not offering him

Saying Cam didn't ask for money, isn't the same as saying Daddy didn't ask for money. If Daddy asked Kiffin may have felt the price was too steep and a reason for no offer. But if Kiffin could implicate Cam that could be his "Get out of jail" card with AA.

The hysterics over a non issue on VN is just entertaining to watch.

Kiffin pretty much went from interested in Newton to completely cutting off recruiting the kid. I doubt very seriously Cam ever received a monetary offer since he never received a scholarship offer after the previous staff contacted him. I don't believe the previous staff were anything more than scum but they were smart scum. Schools give athletes extra benefits all the time but you don't offer a kid money when his father is trying to auction his services to multiple schools. This is purely a case of Cam's father trying to increase the price to land his kid. By all means though, continue with the rampant speculation and doomsday scenarios.

We need to figure out a way to get Alabama a pro sports franchise so their sports media will have something to do other than act like Jerry Springer and turn everything involving college football coverage into a soap opera.

:eek:lol::lolabove::good!: A pro-football team, a pro-basketball team and throw in a hockey team for good measure!

yeah, only Auburn would be stupid enough to do that. I believe Cecil shopped his kid to every school that recruited him. I don't see a problem for Tennessee though. Obvisouly UT didn't bite so I don't see how UT, Miss St or anyother school that didn't pay could be held accountable.

I was one of several posters who wanted Newton at UT badly, but as I recall, immediately after his visit with CLK, it was dead issue.

If this idiot from Huntsville is claiming the NCAA has these tapes and we received our LOA this week. And it mentioned none of anything he has said, we're probably ok I think?

Scott Moore is a complete joke. He called several radio stations from jail , begging them to help him get out not long ago. I can't remember if it was for not paying child support , or if he beat his wife. It may have been both. He had a show in Alabama a few years ago and got canned for having an NCAA football contest on playstation with callers. They got drunk and trashed some of the rooms where the studio was. He is nothing but trash. Think of him as a younger Harvey Updyke. If he had the tapes he wouldn't just be telling people about it. He would sell them so he could start his own meth lab. In other words , he knows about as much as we do involving Cam Newton.

Real or not, our NAME is mentioned....:banghead2:

We will be mentioned with every crackpot out there wanting to recieve some publicity and make a name for themselves..

... Does seem strang that the person who claims to have the tapes is a Bama radio sports talk host whose side kick is a former Bama player.... hmmmm and the two teams he hates the most are Auburn and Tennessee... ha ha ha

By the way , you can hear his show online if you need something to kill time while you take the browns to the super bowl. The show starts off with a 10 min. tribute to all things Alabama football. The show is basically porn for bammers without the 'Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka' music playing in the background.

So, wait a minute. I haven't read the whole thread, but the gist boils down to one of two things:

1. Qiffin didn't cheat hard enough to get Cam, or
2. Qiffin is one of the worst evaluators of talent in the history of college football.

Given the quality of his 1.5 classes at UT, #2 doesn't sound too far off.

I mean when you think of it ... we were going to give him $ but didn't have an offer for him? Sounds like a great way for Preacher to up the $ to other schools while he was pimping his son. I am not a fan of Kiffin , but I honestly believe him when he said he didn't do this. I know it sounds crazy. How can you believe Kiffin? Well he made some huge mistakes when he was here , but he isn't this stupid. Do I think he thought about giving $ to a player? Yes. I think all coaches think about it. I just think in this case , he knew better because of how open Mr. Newton was about wanting money. That's not to say somebody he got here didn't get paid. Who knows? I sure as hell hope not. I'm pretty sure him and Coach Hoe know the right way to go about stuff like this and Mr. Newton went about it the wrong way. Players getting paid to play college football is no secret to anyone and by no means am I saying it's ok to do so. However , I just don't believe this took place with Tennessee and Cam Newton. I think it's likely that he hinted that he wanted something for playing football and the word got around fast. Kiffin stopped recruiting Cam and most of us were shocked. Shortly after Matt Simms became a Vol. Alot of us were left scratching our heads with this decision. Bottom line is the smoke around this situation made them think better of it (IMO) because of Cam's pimp running his mouth and making phone calls. Also consider the source of the story. Moore is hoping if he says it enough it will come true.

I can see the obvious with Auburn , because that is where Cam ended up. Even Stevie Wonder can see this as a possibility. But for all the problems Lane left us , I am not buying this one. If it's true , that no offer might be the best thing about this. Lane said it himself ..."It makes me look real stupid for not offering Cam , because he is a great player" ... That doesn't make it true , but I just have a feeling he knew better. Maybe Blackburn put a stop to this aswell.

Once again , I know what Lane has left us with , but in my opinion , no way he made an offer. The tape is Mr. Newton saying so. Hate to say I would believe scum like Lane before I would believe gutter trash like Mr. Newton. But I do.

Using MrSEC as a "source" pretty much has every ounce of "credibility" one has to be stripped immediately...Pennington is nothing more than a hack and enjoys every second he gets to slam the Vols,Tennessee, and ALL of it's coaches/assistants.

Or you could do a little research for yourself and not just parrot whatever VV says and realize:

1. Cam - and his father - are about as dirty as they come.
2. He had multiple off the field issues at UF and Blinn
3. He looked to be a headcase and was suspended for the first half of the game our coaches went to see. In the second half, he got in an argument on the sideline with his coach.
4. He was not a pro-style QB
5. He did not show the ability to grasp our offense and it was not worth it - or we didn't have the personel - to change it

I'm sure there are more but that's all I got off the top of my head.

Anyone buying what Cecil (War Eagles) is selling (go War Eagles) on tape or (War Eagles) not is either dim (War Eagles) or the most naive (War Eagles) person since (War Eagles) Eve bit the apple.

UT got out for numerous reasons as already pointed out. If they were asked to pay and they very well could have been do any of you really think Kiff wouldn't have gotten the deal done if he thought he could use Cam the way Chizik did?

From the article

Kiffin said his experience in the football-crazy SEC — "You hear so many things down there" — gave him a unique perspective.

"I remember so many things said about me that weren't accurate," Kiffin said. "It was a good lesson learned. If something comes on the radio or in print, I don't think there are any facts to it at all until someone shows some proof. This is a perfect example."

Rather ironic quote from Mr Wanna Be Rock Star living out in LA......

If we were offering $150,000 to someone it would have been a defensive tackle.

If there was any credibility to any of this story then Cecil Newton would have said who specifically from UT made the offer. Otherwise he could have named any school.

Again, if there were any truth to this story the NCAA would have continued the investigation and we would be months away from receiving the letter of infractions. Is it sad for Bama fans that Disney World is in Florida where they can wish upon a star! They need to seek some rehab for their meth addiction.

True, true....I am so shell shocked at this point, I dive for cover if the dog farts....
