Florida game confidence

I firmly believe that we ponied up the cash for coach shoop with florida in mind

I also believe this. I think Butch knows that his job is on the line if he can't break the UF and Bama streaks over the next 2 years. I think Shoop will be able to deliver a victory if Butch lets him coach in the 2nd half. Jancek should have been fired after that 4th and 14 bs call. If it's 3rd down fine, UF probably hits the check down and we give up 8-10 yards. But it's 4th down and you know they have to throw long to convert it. I put Jancek and Dooley on the same level of play calling

Today was a double rainbow and nobody seaw that coming. Stranger things have happened but I think we're a whisker from a hair from dominating the turds. This is what a whisker looks like.

I really think it went something like this. Butch to Dave "if I had a balls out DC we would have been undefeated maybe one loss last year". Dave to Butch "Do what you gotta do bruh".

QB play has always been a critical factor. Seems the one with an NFL caliber QB, wins.
Since Dobbs has fixed his long ball accuracy, it's in the bag. Florida fell to pieces and who's your QB?

Jump higher Vols.

Dobbs has ?

till they do it

advantage Fla

When did Dobbs "fix his longball accuracy"? Don't think that's the case.

I joked about it before, but that's what he was doing with baseball, working on the long ball.

I think the throws will be there, his biggest issue I saw was trying to throw a quick flat ball. I think this year will show he can go over the top.

Jump higher Vols.

How does Dobbs compare, running and throwing, to other DT QBs who've played in the Championship/playoffs. Barrett, Mariotta, Nick Marshall, Newton, Tebow come to mind. To me, he's a better runner than Barrett and Mariotta, better passer than Marshall and Tebow close to Tebow. Is that good enough, we shall see.

How do you know?

I don't know, nobody knows. I've heard mixed results from the 8 or so practices, including the last one when it was written that PWill had gotten open several times deep downfield, but was missed each time with the throw. We've seen Josh do great things the last 3 years, while watching him struggle pretty consistently all 3 years with his accuracy. Just doubt that all of a sudden that's gonna change.

Dobbs was NOT the reason we lost last year. Neither was his long ball accuracy.

This X1000. Dobbs is the reason we won some of the games we probably would have lost without him. Cripes almighty, get off of Dobbs' @$$ people.

Marshall threw a very good deep ball, much better than Josh. Mariota ran for 2200+ yds in 3 seasons, 29 tds, averaged 6.6 yards per carry....2 full yards per carry better than Josh.
Finally, go check Tebow's stats at Florida....they're gaudy and Josh has no chance to get near any of them. I love Josh Dobbs, and I'd take him over Barrett for sure, maybe Marshall....but he doesn't remotely compare to either Mariota or Tebow as a college QB IMO.

Exactly zero people have said that Dobbs is the reason we lost any game last year. Zero. Stop with the false indignation.

Statistics don't tell the whole tale. It's a team game after all. This year, Josh should have an O line comparable to what the others had for most of their careers, so I think to be fair you'd have to compare this year to the others' best years. Also, 6.6 ypc at Oregon doesn't reflect what Mariota would have done the SEC. Tebow had gaudy numbers, but he also scrambled a lot and threw to wide open receivers. I'm not sure after his NFL stint that anyone would claim that he is super accurate.

Accuracy:
Mariota
Newton/Barrett?
Tebow/Dobbs/Marshall

Arm strength:
Newto/Barrett/Mariota
Dobbs/Tebow/Marshall

Well, when you break it down like this, We need Dobbs to take a step this year.

I refuse to make a prediction in this series until the vols finally win it. I'm 23 years old and have only witnessed one victory against Florida.

Been a fan since 77 and we are 6-23 in that span with one 2 win streak...bout 20%.

Ok the other hand, in the last 29 meetings with Candy, they have won 3 with one 2 game streak.

I'm simply saying that until we hang a streak on FL, we are little more than another Vandy to them. I hope that begins this year and goes at least 5 or 6 in a row.

This is true. We almost have the Bammer syndrome in that our offense scores >20 points and we want to fahr our OC when we get a loss. Our D lost us most of our games last year.

This was finally true last year and the fact is the matter is you can't win in the SEC with Big East coaches. 2 of them have been replaced, these next 2 years will show if the last one has to be too

I've been a diehard Vol fan since 1965....a very long time. And insofar as this Florida mess goes, I've never seen anything to match it.
Losses by two points over two years. Our "D" allowing Harris to beat us with his feet (two yrs ago in Neyland). Then last yr giving up five fourth down conversions in the 4th qtr alone!
Gracious! You couldn't make this stuff up.
Sad. Sad on our part, because those games were in our pocket.....ours' to lose. And through a combination of overly conservative coaching and poor defense we proceeded to lose them....both. Defense wins championships, we all know that, if we finally beat FL this yr, we'll have to do it on "D". This offense, even with our anemic passing game will score plenty of points this year.
GBO....Go 120!
