Florida game confidence

Going on nothing but what I read from quotes of some of our team's leaders, there are no teams in our kids heads. Most of these kids since they've signing all the way to getting on the field consistently talk and seem to be focused on a NC. The Gators are in the heads of us fans not team 120 IMO.

I heard Swain talk about this last year after our 11th straight loss. Said 2 things:

1. That while Tennessee typically hopes to beat Florida, Florida plays Tennessee every year believing 100% that they will win and, if nothing else, knows that if they just hang around until late in the game, that Tennessee will give them the game.

2. Said that even when he was playing that the coaches acted differently during Florida week, were more nervous acting and on edge. He said the players actually talked about it openly amongst themselves and even joked about how tight assed Fulmer would become that week.

So, IMHO, even if the players are loose and ready to go, perhaps the coaches aren't....particularly the head coach. That sure looks like what happened in each of the last 2 games/losses vs Florida.

I personally feel you guys beat both UF and Bama next season but if you could only choose one-which would it be?

UF seems more for breaking the streak sake but Bama could be for a playoff spot.

We either need to cheat to win or get the team and coaches nice and liquored up before the game. I bet a ****faced Barnett would notch at least 6 sacks during that game.

Since Tennessee outmatches them at just about every position this year, I am highly confident.

We did last year too for the most part. For some reason, we never execute in this series. I feel like we will never beat Florida again :banghead2:

If we don't win fl this year we never will. This will be their last down year for a long time

Eh, FSU is being built pretty well. Miami is gaining a lot of momentum too with Richt. McElwain won't be able to recruit as well as those two IMO. I'd be more worried about UGA in the next few years than UF.

I got the feeling last year Butch thought he had enough points to win and started just running clock. The year before, he was playing it safe, so that a mistake wouldn't lose it for us.

This year I expect him to turn them loose and we will run rough shod for a real Gator Stomp.

Jump higher Vols.

I hope butch jones takes that Jim mcwelayne quote "at the end of the day you just don't lose to tn if you're at Florida" and plasters it everywhere. Then I hope he grows a pair of balls and learns how to keep the peddle down. That being said, I do believe butch learned a lot last year as a coach. He was blasted to Tahiti and back by tons of analysts for the whole play to not lose thing

Many on here would probably say bama, but I say Florida for two reasons...
1. The streak...I'm tired of hearing about it and our own fan base being so defeated.
2. Gives us a leg up above you guys in the east.

I agree. I said during Butch's first season that he'd have to learn to coach in the sec. I think he's slowly learned, and those loses last year should've taught him. Lets hope he learned.

i've pegged this game as the "all or nothing game" for 2016.

we can have a great season, and still accomplish every goal, even if we lose to FL. Again.

but....i think beating FL and getting out of Sept undefeated is extremely important to the perception of the program, and more importantly, the psyche of the team/coaches and fans.

i don't now how confident i am right now. not sure that it matters. but i do believe 100% that winning that game will give this team a TON OF CONFIDENCE for the rest of the season.

plus, i think for the last 3 years, Butch's calling card has been "resiliency", and he's been fairly successful at getting the team to respond to adversity.

the one thing we haven't really had to deal with is success and how it changes the expectation level thru out the season. Beat FL, then head to Athens the next week...how big of a game is THAT game now? Beat UGA, and you hea to college station? how much BIGGER is that game now....

and forget about it if we win all three and have Bama coming to town next....biggest game in 15 years in Knoxville. National title/playoff/SEC title implications all wrapped up in to one.....

so, long story short, i'll wait til after the FL game to start thinking about any of that for real. but winning that game, at least provides the opportunity for it to happen.

KB, your #1 speaks more to UF's attitude than the Vols. I agree with #2 but that is more the staff than it is the kids. I just do not buy into the players having the UF hangover that we the fans and perhaps the staff has. I actually think 120 will take the field and boatrace them this year. UF's OL went backwards as their season progressed, I do not see any quick fixes for that. I see Shoop tearing them up. I'll be surprised if the gators aren't looking at their watches to get on the bus back to Gainesville by 3 miuntes into the 3rd quarter. I just dont see them giving 120 a ballgame. Prepare to party down. I plan on being there.

If Muschamp was still the coach we would lose by 30 easily but with Mac I think we keep it close with our D. Not ready to predict the score but this might be the year the streak ends.

Too much talent not to win this year. With the new DC, I don't see us stepping on our D..K at the end and giving the game away again.

I refuse to make a prediction in this series until the vols finally win it. I'm 23 years old and have only witnessed one victory against Florida.

Don't forget the postgame youtube video from BigVolDaddy.

Gold.

He said after both of the recent gutwrenching 1 point UF losses that he would never watch another UT vs UF game again, he'd just mark it down as a L before the season and pretend the game didn't exist on game day. He's already back to saying UT will destroy UF this year, and did the same last offseason too.

Man, the losing streak to Florida sure complicates our lives, doesn't it?

-- As Vols fans, we all have this eager anticipation that this year we will break the curse;
-- As human beings with working memories, we all have this inner dread that the past will once again repeat.

And the problem is, deep down inside our brains, or hearts, or somewhere, both those feelings are at war whenever we think of the upcoming game vs the Gators. Some of us usually channel the "won't believe it until I've seen it" angle, others go hard with the "this is the year, I can feel it!" response.

But we all feel both emotions, deep down.

Let this be the year, lads! Go Vols!

Not that anyone needed any, but it's just additional proof that BigVolDaddy is a Tennessee fan.

It's just interesting because the Florida perspective on the game is a tad different.

I bet there aren't many of you guys that see yourselves losing on 9/24
