Could Butch leave?

Just read these quotes on Tennessean.

Butch Jones: SEC coaching takes years off life

Now, I think it would be crazy to leave when you have the talent returning that Butch has, however, this does NOT sound like a coach that is loving the pressures of the SEC.

Any other thoughts? Insights? Could he pull an Urban?

This post is the equivalent of this....

Steve steps outside and makes the remark "It's hot outside today."

Then the willinhf says "Oh my God, we are all going to melt. Do you think the sun is on a collision course for the earth? Run for your lives."

Agreed. It amazes me how a guy made a very mild comment to the media and we have him leaving and going to the NFL, VT, anywhere but the SEC, etc. His wife supposedly hates it here because someone's stepdad knows a guy who heard something from someone. I'll be honest, when I saw the OP create this thread, I thought there would be no more than 2-3 pages of minimal hand wringing. I never dreamed this thing would still be going on. Our fanbase, at least the internet portion in the football forum lives for constant chaos IMO.

Just some of the things he's said about the NFL plus some of the name dropping he does. It seems he said something that added to my impression when Bajakian left too.

Not quite tangible but not exactly "gut" either. Just an accumulation of small things.

I wouldn't guess at his ability to succeed at any level in the NFL.

Even the best college coaches couldn't succeed in the NFL. Spurrier, Saban, Kelly is under fire right now as well. I like Butch but his style of play would be a disaster in the NFL. Just way too predictable.

The only place Butch would even consider going right before his efforts start paying off would be georgia. I think he would have to think about georgia. he would consider it IMO. Nothing else even makes sense.

Would say USC,GA and LSU would make sense.

Would we really want a coaching search now? A ton of jobs are open and I haven't see that we can do better than bUTch.

The program is trending up and I've heard more about Tennessee on ESPN than I have in several years.

Hold the fort bUTch. Don't let the negas bring you down

To be honest, I kept reading this over and over thinking I was missing some quotes or something. I just really didn't see anything worth freaking out over in there.

Yeah. I feel like this coaching carousel could actually end up being pretty positive for us in regards to upgrading a few of those position coach spots. There are some guys out there like Tee Martin or Bud Foster that would be homeruns if you could get them on staff in some capacity. I wouldn't feel nearly as optimistic hunting for a head coach in the current market though.

"Want to" is tricky... but UT can hire someone who is better on game day than Jones has shown so far.

If your goal were to attract the best possible candidate of those available then this year or next is the IDEAL time for that. Great facilities, talented roster, program perceived to be on the rise... just waiting for the coach who can push them over the top with HIS ability. What coach doesn't want to walk into that?

Jones has successfully put UT in that position should he unexpectedly choose to leave for something else.

I'd like to see that list....if it only included highly likely candidates. Butch has some faults, but you can find them in just about every "available" and likely to come coach out there.

Sure, CBJ could leave. But he would owe the University some serious money. Would he leave, I personally don't think so, but only he knows. I feel like he is happy here and enjoying the fruits of his labor.
I also think way to much was read into this article than was actually stated. Good day.

Fuente came to mind without even having to think about it. Give Babers a decent DC and things could be pretty exciting.

My boss who is a tOSU grad thinks that the magic left the Buckeyes when Tom Herman went to Houston.

Fuente is the most interesting of these to me because he's proven he can make a bad team good... without a massive infusion of talent.

Matt Rhule is also a guy who has proven he can get more from less on gameday. It sure wasn't comparable talent that kept them in the game vs ND.

2 of those 3 are about to hired in a week

Besides I would argue neither are better than jones

The specific issue was game day ability. I'm not sure Jones even came to UT with the reputation of being a great game day coach.

IIRC, Fuente has won 8 games this year with a great shot at a second consecutive 10 win season while starting 8 or so former walk ons. Temple went toe to toe with ND with a roster made up of mostly 1 and 2 star players. Rhule's NFL experience doesn't hurt either.

I agree. I did not read anything in that article that suggest Butch is ready to leave. He spoke the truth, it is a tough job coaching in the SEC.

Sunday to Friday CBJ hands down better than any of the 3, Saturday Butch leaves alot to be desired.

Butch doesn't seem to have that killer instinct. Maybe at Cincy he could take it easy with a 14-17 point lead, not in the SEC . He needs to learn to keep the pedal to the metal and he will be okay.
