Could Butch leave?

Much much different set of circumstances

Not a fair comparison at all

In the end...nobody likes to be jilted. You can find somewhat similar articles about Kelly's departure for ND....or just about any coach that leaves one program for another...Kiffin, Saban, Meyer...et.al.

You're reaching. No offense, but your step dad is probably a little bit of a VT homer so he is going to make it sound like a more high profile job than what it is. I know a lot of these people 'connected' to the university claim so and so is interested just because they think everyone wants to be at the university they support. Kinda like all of the Gruden nonsense that took a life of its own. I don't think your step dad is intentionally lying to you, I just think he got some bad information and passed it along to you. Butch isn't going anywhere.

And comparing the moves from Central Michigan to Cincy to UT to possibly a VT is apples to oranges. All of his previous moves were upgrades. Leaving Knoxville for Blacksburg would be a huge step down. I think what we are seeing is another classic volnation take one comment and give it a life of its own moment.

THOSE exist? :eek:hmy:

While it may not be a fair comparison, I was speaking more in terms of he's been a robot everywhere he's been saying the same things over and over and over and over. For him to say these things in the article the thread was started over really show his true feelings for the job. He's stressed and overwhelmed.

The article was written based on a question he was asked and answered during the media session. You really need to put the answer in that context. In my opinion he did not say or hint that he was overwhelmed with the job. He answered the question that was asked.

Some on here over analyze everything the man says.

In this case money isn't what Jones wants

But it's what his agent wants. If CBJ wants out, then UT will take his $4M buyout and his salary and pay what it takes to land someone who can have this roster competing for championships next year. There are several really good coaches who might be willing to make a move now. Money will talk if Butch wants to walk.

But again, what low-pressure program is going to pay that $4M buyout?

I'm sure he loves all his brilliant, football savy assistant coaches on VN that make his job so much easier. Probably enjoys spending his weekends away from his own family to spend it with a bunch of 17 and 18 year olds, many of who are so self important that he probably just wants them to go eff themselves. Tough way to earn 3 million a year[/QUOTE

Isn't 17 and 18 year old kids the age of the recruits? Just saying. Sarcasm obviously.

Which if you read my previous post this is what I stated kept VT from getting serious with Jones.

Listen, there are a TON of coaching jobs open this season...you will see a carousel in the next few weeks.

Butch probably isn't going anywhere, but never say never...and if he does, hopefully he takes the BCIA with him.

Agreed, but I would have felt a lot better about it if we had already fired Dave Hart like we should have. I don't trust Hart at all. He would probably hire somebody that obviously won't succeed but has done just enough to appeal to the eternally hopeful, like Kirk Ferentz.

Seriously? You really believe that? backup for that conclusion other than he is not a UT graduate?

I suspect we'll have a wholesale shakeup at some point. I just don't think it's this year. There are advantages to another year of stability.

But I don't see the point in bargaining with any coach who wants to go. If a coach wants out, let him go someplace he can be happier and let us find somebody who is excited to be here. UT is a great program. We just need to find our Saban.

If this is the dumbest statement you've read on here in a while all I can say is welcome back. You must have been gone for a while, lol.

Les has proven more on the field to this point than Butch. That could change next year (here's hoping). Les can recruit just as well as Butch. Currently sitting on the number 1 class in the nation. If recruiting at LSU was so easy, why did they suck (barring a few season here and there) until Saban came to town?

It seems most that are saying "this is so stupid" are basing this off of this season and this season only. I look at this over the course of the last few years and a career. Even basing it off of this season, LSU beat Mississippi state and Florida. They are 7-3, we are 7-4. They play in the West which is much tougher than the east.

Not that any of this matters, really. Butch isn't leaving. We are getting better. We are improving. I don't hate Butch. But Miles is Underrated big time IMO. Obviously several posters disagree, and that's OK. No big deal. This is a scenario with less than .01% chance anyway.

Miles does have a better resume than Butch at this point, but I don't like what I've seen from miles in the last five years. Maybe I made an overstatement, but I still stand by my comment that I would not want Miles over jones "today" and like you said, it's nothing that cold ever happen anyway. Unless, folks are right that Jones wants out of Tennessee. If he does, then don't let the door hit you on the way out! Go find some place where the fans aren't passionate and it doesn't matter if you win or lose!

Quit reading the Tennesseean. The only worthwhile thing that rag could do is offer John Adams a job to get him out of Knoxville.
yeah this paper is the same one who tried to sponsor a trophy game with Vanderbilt. What happened to that by the way? It just disappeared into obscurity.

I mean this isn't his first year in the profession. He should know that there are some absolute crazies out there and that's just part of it.

The death threats, etc. are absolutely uncalled for but he's gotta know that kind of stuff can happen.

If he doesn't want his family to have to deal with crazy high expectations and the wacky off-the-wall fans then he needs to go sell jingles for a car dealership.

Bunch of total BS in this thread, some folks on here would want to fire Lombardi when he made his first bad coaching mistake. We have a coach that loves it here, leave it too folks on this board to take his statement out of context and start a bunch of BULL. Coach Jones is going to be here for a while, hopefully a long while. If folks cannot see our improvement from the time he got here until now they need to find another sport to watch. No it hasn't been perfect, you tell me any team or staff that is. I'll tell you how fickle fans are, after the Mississippi game some bama fans were saying Saban time had passed, what a bunch of morons. Fans have become Kneejerk whiners of the worse kind everywhere, yes coaches make mistakes and players make mistakes and games get lost somebody has got to win and somebody has got to lose. And remember there is another staff and group of players that is trying to counter what you are doing. never satisfied that sums up some. GO Vols and keep it up Coach Jones and staff you are appreciated by most fans as evidence by our crowds this year.

Best Coffee In America? :)

His offensive style would fail miserably in the NFL. That aside, what leads you to believe he ultimately desires to land in the NFL? Gut feeling or have there been any stories or indicators out there? Just curious.

Just some of the things he's said about the NFL plus some of the name dropping he does. It seems he said something that added to my impression when Bajakian left too.

Not quite tangible but not exactly "gut" either. Just an accumulation of small things.

I wouldn't guess at his ability to succeed at any level in the NFL.

I remember listening and watching videos of Bama fans when they lost that Ole Piss game last season. I couldn't believe what some of them were saying on the Finebaum show. What a bunch of idiots! The level that Saban got Bama too, is unbelievable!
