I would have to look back at it, but there was a great 538 article about this sort of situation about a year ago. I remember it talking about how coaches are praised for "extending" the game in situations like this by taking the points, when statistically they are better off going for it. The example used in the article focused on being down by 15 and scoring and then kicking the extra point instead of going for 2. Basically the idea came down to that you are better off not getting it now and knowing how you need to play the rest of the game, then assuming you can get it later. Not 100% sure that this situation fits exactly since its a two possession game either way.

When I lived in Austin, TX they called Bob Stoops "Big Game Bob" because he could never win the big game. I think It is now "Big Game Butch". Sad day for TN football.

I just pray this doesn't effect recruiting.

I guarantee it won't effect recruiting as much as his coaching blunders losing the games that his players have won, or as much as having a stable of NFL wide receivers that never get thrown a pass.

Not any worse than Butch being raked over the coals on ESPN and every other big sports channel all weekend. This article is small time. ESPN is big time viewers.
Yes, I agree. But the other sites are basically saying the same thing. If the trend continues, I'm afraid it could effect peoples opinions.

Wins and losses will impact recruiting, not internet articles

Wins and loses, do, that's true. And so far, we are losing the big games, and it's becoming a trend that are not only internet articles, but discussions on ESPN.

If the trend is not reversed it could effect recruiting. I hope it doesn't.

lol so 2 losses = complete failure?

You guys are trying way to hard

There will be more. Plus, it would be completely different had the games been super close and we lost giving it everything for 4 quarters. That has not been the case and the vols should be 4-0 going into this week and in the top 10.

Not a complete failure (yet) just tough to watch your coach being eviscerated by the national media. Not a good look for the program.

You realize that's how the media works right? I think people around here take this wayyyyyyyyy TOO serious.

I'm not talking about Internet fan boy sites or click bait writers. I'm talking legit national media guys and former players that have destroyed him the past five to six days.
