Colin Kaepernick Thread

NBA players routinely treat every game as a fashion show, with outfits far more attention-grabbing than a Kunta Kinte T-shirt. Imagine being the guy saying “how dare they show up wearing that”
Those NBA players aren’t interviewing for one of the most important jobs in sports.

Naive take.

Your comparison isnt even good. Apples and oranges.

Anyone “distracted” by a Kunta Kinte shirt is looking for a distraction
Yeah I don’t understand the controversy there. It’s like the cornrows with Iverson and Moss back in the day.

He already has been a distraction. Maybe it was the previous history of the pig socks before that or the Castro t-shirt? If he wants to play and is serious about playing he doesn’t have much room to have people question his motives. If he wants so bad to play for this unfair League then don’t show up for a job interview with a t-shirt with the name of a fictional character who was a slave in Roots and leave it open for interpretation. Show up, go through your workout and don’t make it a bigger spectacle than it already was.
This is logic.

The league said it would allow Kap to bring his own video crew and use his own receivers and approved an advertising shoot by sponsor Nike during the workout. Everything was going to be documented by Kap's people, so im not sure why he's unhappy...

Most of that isn't true. They definitely weren't allowing any video crews or documentation other than their own.

This is false and it's the entire reason that Kaep changed the terms last second. He wasn't going to allow the NFL to keep the workout a secret and then pretend like he looked bad.

The NFL allowed him everything his agent requested the day before...Nike is on Kap's side so no way they make him look bad...

» Last night, when Nike, with Colin's approval, requested to shoot an ad featuring Colin and mentioning all the NFL teams present at the workout, we agreed to the request.
» We heard for the first time last night, around the same time we heard from Nike, that Colin wanted to bring his own video crew. We heard for the first time this afternoon that Colin wanted to open the event to all media.
NFL releases statement on change to Colin Kaepernick workout

The San Francisco “offer you play” was not an offer, he was about to get cut. They weren’t about to pay him tens of millions to be a backup. They certainly didn’t offer him $15 million a year after he opted out, so what makes you think they were planning on keeping him at that number before he opted out?

The Denver “offer to play” was a trade offer before the kneeling stuff even happened and has nothing to do with this.
I’ve never said he would get $15M a year. He clearly isn’t worth it so I’m not sure why that keeps coming up. Yes the Denver offer was before he first knelt but it was an offer. He also had interest from Baltimore after that. It really doesn’t matter. If it is though gut he may be able to be a starter after yesterday then someone will at least work him out again. If they think he is just a backup then I bet nothing comes of it. I’m guessing teams have more interest in what is supposed to be a great QB draft coming up but maybe not.

He has no interest in playing in the NFL. He is a professional victim and courtesy of Mark Geragos and Nike, he's making more being that.

Actually getting onto a field and being exposed as a has been mediocre QB would spoil his narrative. If he's so desperate to prove he's a phenomenal QB, why not go to the CFL and show all his talent there?

Sure thing. The people who think how he performed matters most are emotional and the people who think everything else matters most are logical. Makes total sense.
I don’t think everything else matters most. I just don’t think his talent outweighs the other stuff. I guarantee you if Mahomes, Watson or Lamar Jackson took a knee, GM’s and owners would be willing to overlook the headaches that would be associated with those players because they won. Nobody wants a potential headache holding a clipboard . That’s why yesterday was important, so he could show that he could not only play, but also not be a distraction .

I’m not trying to change anybody’s mind here, that’s just my take.

My hot take - if you are seriously trying to get a job you follow the guidelines of the interviewing organization. If you think those rules are BS then question whether or not you want to work for said organization. To demand they conduct the interview the way you want it is a sign of what said org gets when they take a chance on you.

In the end it is as close to a meritocracy as it gets. Demonstrate merit.

I think the NFL set it up because they knew he was going to do what he did.
kaep didn’t disappoint.

Also, if this guy has been working out for 3 years and ready to play, I’m not sure he’d look like the casual athlete he presented himself to be on Saturday. His muffin top 3 pack was quite evident under the tank shirt.

you guys think an NFL team would want that crap in their locker room, day in, day out? Yeah, keep telling yourself that.

my take is that his personal agenda means more to him than NFL/team agenda. his choice for sure but if I'm a coach/GM then I've got to seriously question if his priorities match the team priorities. mildly better talent only goes so far

When Steven A Smith who has undeniably supported you through all of this turns on you it’s over.

Show up.
Work out.
Do a short exit interview and thank everyone who came

You don’t call out the people you want to work for.

Stephen A. Smith, the guy whose opinion is so crucially important that no one can spell his name

Normally when there’s a sports-related controversy, we just ask “what does Stephen A. Smith think?” and then we all just go with that
