BJ Coleman (Merged)

Coleman was never given as much opportunity as Incrompetent last year. Let's not judge him on a couple of possessions.

That is all that we have to judge him on, and yet folks around here will talk about how great he is with a straight face

I've spoken with members of the UT athletics department including coaches who were not informed that Coleman was leaving. While some attrition was expected, the Vols coaching staff said it was unaware Coleman was leaving and one coach appeared to learn of the news from my question regarding the matter.

Also, when I spoke w/ Ben Martin, he had no knowledge of the situation either and didn't think BJ had informed his teammates.

Martin did tell me it's just an MCL sprain his knee and that he'll be fine in a couple weeks.

Sorry if already posted.

if you really want to know the truth, we were screwed with the 3 we had...now we are screwed with just 2.

I don't think we're screwed at all; I think this staff knows that with what we have we're just going to run the ball and lean on the D. We do that last year and we win 8 games and thats probably a fair estimate for this year. Coleman being gone doesn't change that number at all

The one bad thing about this is the competition in practice will go down. JC needs to be pushed to his limit (which isn't much in the first place) and now that Coleman is gone, there may only be one (or two) qbs who have a shot to challenge him.

screwed might have been an over exaggeration about our quarterback situation, but wouldn't it be a lot easier on all of us if we didn't have a quarterback situation to begin with....especially the same one a year ago.

Coleman is listed as co-number one with Crompton after spring practice. If he would have continued to improve during the summer I believe he would have been named the starter when the season begin.

Who is the second QB?

Im not sure JC's problem is being pushed. I think he gives the effort. Now that being said, we have all seen the results. I think he has improved from last year, but not enough to make me comfortable at all.

If our coaches could not motivate their quarterback, they would not be good coaches at all.

In a system that we don't use...

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but.....

Would it be better that our coach(es) were less than honest?

This is better for everyone.

The team get's a spot open.

The kid get's the chance to show his ability elsewhere.

They aren't throwing him off the team. It's a mutually beneficial decision.

QFT. Also, if recruiting isn't playing a part in the QB race then Kiff isn't doing his job imo.

I understand, but usually when there's competition in practice, it brings out the maximum potential in the players. Not saying it would have made a huge difference, but another qb wouldn't hurt.

Crompton will definitely receive competition from Stephens. And he knows full well that no spot is anywhere close to guaranteed. (except one)

I understand what you're saying but put yourself in Coleman's shoes (sorry can't call him BJ). If the coaching staff told you, which apparently happened if you read between the lines, that you wouldn't be playing very much for the Vols due to your percieved limitations wouldn't you want to go somewhere you would get a better chance to play?
