BJ Coleman (Merged)

I agree, I don't like the idea of him running to the media, instead for working it out with his coaches. The coaches were the last to knoow and that's bad business. He acted on emotion and when you do that you usually regret your decision. No true leader quits or leaves his brothers behind. You just don't do it.

I agree, but go listen to the audio interview with the chattanooga paper. It sounds like he never had a chance. Coleman makes it sound like Kiffin wants his own recruit, his own chosen boy, and playing Crompton as a senior (and promoting him to recruits, ie Chris Low article) is the quickest formula for Kiffin to get his boy. Kiffin seems obsessed with having a blue-chip QB.

It's possible Nick Stephens could get isolated as a well since he has 2 years of eligibiity left.

crap. i was really hoping this was a rumor. looks like this is crompton's job to lose now.

I have faith in the coach's decisions.

Remember, Crompton looked terrible last year - but so did the entire offense.

Here's to hoping that it was all just a matter of lazy coachmanship. (Can I make up that word?)

Everyone calm down; all we ever saw Coleman do was throw a TAINT against Vandy. Yes, Vandy. I don't care what he's done in the O&W game

I love how Coleman say's that he didn't quit, he didn't just walk out; yet no one in Knoxville knows anything about his decision to leave the Vols. Classy.

I bet Kiffin told him crompton is starting. And next year we get Heaps which could possibly beat him out again. Therefore, he transfers to Duke so that he can actually play.

That's what is bothering me. Coleman said in his interview to the Chatt press that recruiting is playing a role in the QB race. If true, that is absolutely pathetic. My excitement over Kiffin just dimmed a bit.

I just don't think Coleman was that good. He threw, what, ONE touchdown last year? And that was to a Vanderbilt player.

he only threw six passes all year. And that was with the first team which he had NO practice with all year. And that Vandy secondary wasn't all that bad.

I don't think you or I have the inside scoop to judge classy or not. I did hear on Chattanooga sports talk this afternoon that BJ wanted to talk to Kiffin today and Kiffin said not until Monday. BJ came back, if I heard it correctly, and they had a talk. Sports talk guys said it got heated? Whatever happened as Vol fans we should all hope for the best for UT....that is why we are on here. But also hope for the best for BJ. He wanted to be a Vol....for whatever reason it has ended. But we really don't know for sure how it happened and to call out a kid is not classy either.

True, we need t play to win now. If anything can come of this, it is the fact that we are probably in a better position to get Heaps now. Why wouldn't he want to come and start in the SEC from day 1.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but.....

Would it be better that our coach(es) were less than honest?

This is better for everyone.

The team get's a spot open.

The kid get's the chance to show his ability elsewhere.

They aren't throwing him off the team. It's a mutually beneficial decision.

I know one thing...the timing is terrible.

I am sure players are divided...and supposedly, some also believe he didn't get a fair shake.

Coleman was never given as much opportunity as Incrompetent last year. Let's not judge him on a couple of possessions.

Can someone elaborate on that or confirm it ?

I believe that BJ was told that he did not have the arm strength to compete for the job as QB for the Tennessee. Two coaches with both of them having the same opinion of Coleman. I dont care who wins the job and I am sure these coaches will make sure to pick the best one.

Everyone says that J Crompton was a good practice player and bad in the games but that is still better than being bad practice players and in the game like Nick and BJ was last year. Everyone needs to hope it had more to do with the confusing offense than the QBS and hope our staff makes the difference and our QBS will begin to show that as they gain more and more confidence in theirselves and trusts our coaches plan for what they are suppose to do.

I know that Kiffin was quoted as saying he didn't know anything about Coleman leaving. If he wanted to talk and Kiffin said "wait until Monday" I am sure there was still time to squeeze in an "I'm quitting".

I don't think it is mature at all for him to give quotes to his hometown news paper without first informing his team and coaches.

When decisions are made based of od emotions, you usually reget your decision. Let's hope this blows over and BJ stays with the team.

Pennvol I wish I could elaborate on it more. I was listening and had to take a call. It was then that I heard DR B and Quake say that BJ was waiting to talk to Kiffin and Kiffin had someone in his office. Kiffin said he would have to talk Monday. That BJ came back later and said they needed to talk before Monday. I wish I could have heard the rest...all I heard from that point was that the discussion got heated....can you believe it I had to stop listening then. Evidently, Quake and Dr B had talked to BJ's Dad and got the story. You could call in tomorrows show and get the details if no one else heard.

sounds like a pretty immature move to me. now 2 scholly QB's that barely deserve the scholly's to begin with. we need some help and bad.

Coleman couldn't make all the throws that Kiffin wants his QBs to make in this offense( Crompton and Stephens can if they know where to go with the ball)..size was an issue too... just not the USC style QB but would have been a great fit for the Cutcliffe style of offense.

If crompton and stephens can get the mental part straight we will be fine but that is a big question. I think coaches are helping with their way of coaching. They are putting them on the spot and asking them what did they do wrong here. You can tell someone else all day what they are doing wrong but they don't truly comprehend until they say it themselves. Doesnt hurt to have a Qb coach focused soley on them too instead of a guy trying to do a million things like Clawson was

True, but since we didn't get a qb in this class, it would've been nice to have another qb in competition, no matter if they're all average joes.

But if he had transferred after next season, it would be have been a lot better for our team.
