While I do believe hiring Helfrich would be a good move. JG has great ability but that ability would be amazing with a true QB coach but from a sheme standpoint Helfrich runs an offense very similar to ours. So if we bring in Helfrich and the offense performs the same as it did this year (2nd in scoring in the SEC, 1st in TD passes over 20 yds, 36.3 avg. points per game) will it be magically okay since he's not seen as Butch's pawn?

I think for most people the overall offense isn't the issue, it's the play calling and the under-utilization of players/opponent's weaknesses. I mean for crying out loud, DeBord said in a presser that play calling had been difficult because teams were doing different things than what they had on film..

, Beano, Philly (Mayor of SoKno), and BrockyTop (Jeff Brock) used to have a Saturday morning radio show in Knoxville.

Yeah, well Bevis and Butthead used to have a show too, so....?

Those three are clueless about anything connected to sports and that Saturday morning show was the worst show on the Knoxville airwaves since Lady Mull died.

One opinion from someone named "Ward" mentioned that no coach in recent years has worked harder or cared more than Butch. I don't doubt this, but it's time for Butch to start working SMARTER.

50-50. I think he's been contacted and is interested, but he has other suitors. Now is not a good time to be without an athletic director with the power to approve contracts.

Can a special meeting of the BoT be called to confirm the chancellor in order to fast-track the AD hire?

Just curious, but what on Helfrich's resume intrigues everyone? I'm neither for him or against him, but I don't understand all of the hype of being Chip Kelly's lackey.

If (and I'm skeptical at the very y least) this happens, Butch needs to let Helfrich run the O, Shoop run the D, and focus solely on recruiting. We could win that way.

If Don Mahoney is still here next year, the offense will be as bad as the defense was this year.

We don't have a QB on the roster that is capable of scrambling as much as Dobbs does to survive behind the Mahoney-line.

Hopefully there is about 6'6" 310 lbs of help coming in that department around 4:30 today.

So... the poster just asked who Beano is. I didn't endorse that Saturday morning show or Philly and Brock.

Beavis and Butthead used to have an awesome show... and don't be disrespecting Lady Mull!

Your probably right. I was just guessing. Tony Robinson? He's on his show every now and then

I honestly don't have a clue who it is. Just know he's described himself in ways that makes him sound like he's been around the program since the 70's. I don't recall him describing himself as a former player, unless I'm missing something.

I saw that. I don't think even Butch's harshest critics would accuse him of not working hard. There's no doubt to me that he works very hard. Maybe too hard, in a way.

But I also don't think working hard is enough by itself. He is judged by and paid a buttload of money for results. Period. He's not paid by the hour.

I sincerely can't see helfricht coming here but if he were to, I honestly think that our recruiting would take a sudden leap forward. the promise of some explosiveness could be more appealing to some of the near misses, on the fencers, and previously recommitted members of this class. Nor saying it would change, but it certainly would make us more attractive.

I am sure this is another Grudenesque chub teaser, but what the heck this is what keeps the Volnation drama captivating.

Those numbers are good, yes.

Butch liked to leave a lot to desire in games, he opened the playbook when we were desperate(being down by 20+). We need a guy who is not afraid of the big plays, a guy who will adjust in game as needed. Someone who will use the whole playbook the whole game, not just a half of Football when you're down by 20+.

I am very aware of the similarities in what Helfrich runs and what Butch does, the difference is one knows how to run an offense properly the other......not so much.

Agree. Having the work ethic is good but after a while we want results. We have made improvements since year 1 of CBJ, but appear light years behind Bama. The first 3 years were impacted by youth and lack of depth. This year it is injuries. Do we get lucky next year?
