Bailey led the team in passing

Bailey is going to have his bumps. He looked scared when he got in. That’s okay. Young guys make mistakes. Much rather that happen in the name of growing wind developing a player vs a 5th year senior who just can’t get right.
He didn't looked scared to me. BM kept sliding to the rear out of the pocket when he needed to step up and to the right into a clean pocket. He is the one that looked scared if any of them did although the look on JG's face before taking the field the first time told me we were in trouble.

I agree BM looks scared and that is odd because he played fearless last year when he was in.

He did and I think he would calm down quite a bit if he had a few series but I would still roll HB out there and see if there was some magic there.

Nervous yes. Scared? No. Put yourself in his shoes and the coaches are about to throw you out there facing a defense that’s teeing off on the o line and run game without a bit of practice in the passing game. Hell...... we’d all be a little nervous

Oh I agree he was put in a bad situation but my point was he doesn’t look the same as he did in the first half of the 19 GA game.

I think BM Would benefit from a week of him taking all the number 1 snaps and a game plan that plays to his strengths. I am not sure that will happen for him at UT but I hope he lands at a school that gives him that opportunity.

No. He looked the same as he did against UF and IU. The common denominator there is he wasn’t prepared to play. That’s coaching. Not talent. However none of us can name a game he looked that bad in his 4 starts that he WAS prepared to play in. That’s my point. He wasn’t scared, he was just unprepared.

Context matters. Bailey’s first pass play of the game was on 4th and 4...... his first pass play of the game......

BM sucks. Period. Played last year has experience and still sucks. BM had 3+ series and looked horrible.
Come on man. Mauer might not be all that good, but I have a feeling Bailey isn't going to be all that & a box of chocolates

He put put up the same stats JG does in an entire game in just 2 drives.

Really just one drive. He handed off 6 times on his first drive before they made him throw on 4th down. (Intercepted because of pass interference)
the fact that he had more yards in one drive is ridiculous. The most yards you can get in one drive is 99. :p

Bailey led the team last night in passing with 69 yards.

Just thought this should have a spotlight shown on it.

This is both damn scary and hilarious at the same time.
All he did was take 8 yard check downs and run the clock out on himself. Not sure the point here.

I watched most of the Marietta games last year either ESPN or the school stream and was really impressed with HB. The Marietta vs St. Joseph's game was when I really jumped on the HB hype train.

St. Joseph's QB is committed to Ohio St. St. Joseph's scores with under 2 minutes left to take the lead. HB was on the sideline hyping his teammates up and even told one player, 'I got this."
Led the game winning drive and at one point took a heck of a hit out of bounds that received 15 yard penalty.

Skip to the 15 minute mark to watch said drive.

Threw some big time throws in that game. That last drive you referenced, the throw before the TD was major League stuff. Kid knows how to QB, stunning it took this long to get him regular playing time.

That was a nice pass. I gotta give him that but one pass isn’t enough to declare him “better” than Maurer. Outside of that pass he’s had 4 passing opportunities vs UK that didn’t go so well and a prevent defense that gave him a pitch and catch. I want to see how he does in the same situations as Maurer has been put in before I anoint him. He needs to put up big numbers against an elite defense like Maurer did before he got hurt.
Maurer looked very shaky and unsure of himself compared to Bailey. I’m a BM fan and know neither of them have had the practice or game reps to feel comfortable yet but HB likely has a big advantage on potential.

I know you’re a fan but I disagree for the sole reason that it was easy for Bailey to look comfortable with only three rushers coming at him vs Maurer having 7-8

I don’t agree. He seemed to have more composure and game presence than BM and we all know about JG’s lack of confidence. Bailey also looked aggressive in lining up the offense and barking the signals. However the sample size for BM or HB is too small now to know for sure.

See my other post. Sample size is too small to judge either one at this time.

The kid wasn't a 5 star for no reason. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he is the highest rated hs qb prospect UT has signed since Peyton Manning 25 years ago. Start him and build for the future. No Justin Fields mistakes/regrets in Knoxville please.

I actually just finished reading it. Overall I agree. It’s too small of a sample size for either to place judgements, good or bad. We don’t know how Bailey would look with pressure in his face and we don’t know how either of them would look if they were prepared to play.

It doesn’t make sense to play a QB you’re afraid for him to throw. Either let JG throw the ball or play Bailey.

And if jg throws he will throw more int. than any of the rest. Only reason his completion % is good, is because he checks down and throws the safe pass. Open up the offense and people will see why Chaney is hand cuffed with jg at qb. Pruitt even knows this, thats why he game planned the way he did against Ark. And anyone that thinks this is Chaney have not seen Chaney's past successes. Chaney likes to throw the ball. He wall also hand cuffed at Ga. Kirby and Pruitt have the same offensive mind.

If Ga. had of played Fields thay would be contending for a nc this year, and maybe last year as well.

That JG was so damn bad that a few 8 yard check downs on 2 drives gained more yards than him.

Thought it was kinda clear my point.

69 yards was the better than him.

Maurer just isn't calm enough to be a big time QB. He plays exactly like he looks on the sideline, startled.

You call it startled, most would call it playing with enthusiasm, and motivation. Something this team needs; to play with intensity. With that said Maurer was not good sat. Let him game plan just one week and you will see some points put up, as well as with Bailey. From the sound of hc. when the back ups come in the game it is with no practice at all in the game plan.

He had more passes. HB ended up with 1 fewer total yard than JG on 2 fewer plays.

And 2 more turnovers.

But everyone realizes they were dump passes. He did what Arky wanted him to. At least...he was accurate on the dump downs? He'll get better. Dangerous with the ball so far. Needs his HS confidence back.

Lol Maurer has been plain bad past 2 years. He hasn't finished a winning game here...at all. There's a reason he hardly plays. And he's even worse this year.

When he is ready start him. Still not ready though. You don't trade wins now for wins next year or two years down the road.

But, lets be honest, with jg, we may win one more game. With either of the backups getting reps in practice, it would be amazing to see how much they would improve. For whatever reason, Pruitt is sold on jg. Jg is not going to win much, look at his record as starting qb. I want to repeat again what I have said many times before. Our turn around last year is when Maurer started. The whole team played better. Jg just sucks the life out of a team.

You have not kept up with the games he played in, much much better competition than what jg played against and did any good. There is a reason we have went to a primary running game. If we opened up the offense the way we did last year with Maurer, Jg would have much more int. We don't open it up now cause our coaches know he cant pass. And other teams know it also, which is why they stack the line against us. If jg plays against Auburn, they will stop our run game, and the rb and ol will get the blame for it, when in essence it is jg cause they know he can't pass. And the reason he hardly plays is that Pruitt has a thing for jg, I don't know what it is, but it certainly is not his play on the field.
