'26 ASU Transfer QB Sam Leavitt

I guess the reality is that bringing in any player from the portal is a risk. As @Skooter said, they aren't getting physicals while they are visiting and any player going in the portal could have an undisclosed injury. I would be surprised if there hasn't been a player that actually entered the portal specifically because they had a season/career threatening injury.

At least Leavitt's injury is known so you go in eyes wide open. It's a risk, no doubt.

We won’t take Leavitt if we don’t feel like he’ll be ready by fall camp.

Or a few of us may have been around ortho and extremity injuries and surgeries for 30 years. Surgeons won’t place pins, plate and/or screws thru a ligament that’s not torn
I will say there are more options now to try to speed up healing, such as hydrolized collagen peptides, which weren’t an option years ago. Collagen speeds up ligament damage recovery.
Understood and respect to you for that experience and what that experience brings to the table in a conversation like this. I don't think most complaining have that experience or understanding. I sure don't.

But I guess I'm just at a place where as much as we all live, breath, eat, and sleep Vol football, it is Heupel and the folks in Knoxville asses on the line if this doesn't work out. Do so many of our fanbase not think that maybe, juuuuust maybe, those folks have done and are doing their due diligence on Leavitt? Do they truly think they don't understand it better than any of us because they are getting information and access to health records we do not have access to? There is a 0 percent chance they are going to spend that type of money without knowing this situation forwards and backwards and every which way in between. So if they make this call and sign Leavitt, it's going to be an educated and informed decision.

You obviously know your medical stuff (& I don't), but why is it a given that UT can't have medical evaluation/MRI done on Leavitt?

He’s not part of the program. If he signs, they will as they will take over PT.
How does that prevent a medical evaluation, particularly for millions of dollars? "Hey Sam, we love you, but we need an MRI before we commit." If Sam is unwilling, that tells you as much as the MRI will.

Calm down or show receipts (you keep saying “someone said”).
All that has been published is that it’s a 6 month recovery March-April timeline. That does not equal August. What has been said is he would miss Spring and be ready for Fall practice in August.
That does not preclude him from Summer workouts, same as Joey, at least what has been published to date. Is that a concern? Sure. Is it a long term issue? Maybe?

But maybe he will be fine and just thought Lane was a douche…
Post #24 in this thread. Read it for yourself.

This portal stuff is just like NFL Free Agency and the NFL team automatically gives a potential signee a physical and examination of prior injuries...
There's no way you unload a 💰 bag for kid who is recovering from an Injury without a proper examination.
That would be absolute foolishness.

It’s my understanding this does not happen on visits but does happen before contracts/agreements are signed and money given.
However, we see HS players getting NIL money before arriving on campus, so they have not been tested by UT. We’ve also seen portal players commit who have not gone thru a rigorous testing process. I assume their file from current or previous college is shared, which will have the information.

If he is not about to practice fully until August then how is he worth it?
I doubt that 5% of the people in here support UT with their money; so, my question is why everyone continually talks about a player's monetary worth.

Let the people who actually pay for our players worry about whether their money is being spent properly.

It seems to me that somewhere down the line NIL payouts are going to have to involve contracts. I don't know how that would work but this whole situation is getting a little crazy.

If I'm a booster I would be thinking WTF. This guy wants a million dollars from me today and in a few months he'll want two million from someone else. Pass
If you follow that line of thinking, what do you do when the crazy crowd starts spewing their "Tennessee is too cheap to go after the best available talent"

Some already do. See Damon Wilson, Demond Williams

How many teams passed on him so far?

Kensucky lsu and who else
*Cynical alert*
... then, that sounds exactly like the kind of guy we'll end up with. We get all the portal cast offs everyone else passes on-- Hooker, Milton, Aguilar all passed over. We went sneaky #2 with Nico, trying to be the smartest guys in the room and we know how that went.
So, here's to a good season riding with Me. Leavitt. GBO

I thinks there’s about a 80% chance he ends up at Oregon. Went in with a no contact tag and he’s from there. Oregons back up also gone. Tennessee and Oregon are really the only two teams left to fill their QB need. Just getting a couple free trips and driving up the $ a bit.
