I will say this and this is going to be a gamble. But if you do get him at 100% healthy and your defense is just a little better than last year the you are immediately contenders. Hooker-esque with his legs he’s accurate and doesn’t turn the ball over.
Took a team that was projected at the bottom of their conference to the playoff two years ago as well.

Problem is he isn’t gonna be 100% healthy anytime soon.

Injury aside, UT better be certain this guy can mentally handle being QB here.

Don't need another headcase type at QB.

He would be awesome in this offense. Huge arm and runs it as well as Hooker

I have no doubt that Heupel will get the most out of him, but the return on investment here is remarkably poor. He has worse statistics than Joey and Nico in a weaker conference for approximately double the price.

The short-termism and win now mantra that is currently all the rage in college football may force us to do something stupid here in order to make a big pr splash, but all that does is raise expectations and gets us no closer to our goals as a program. The money we seem to be considering for Leavitt would be better spent on the defense.

Of course his stats are "worse" he got hurt early in the season and only played 7 games.

So did Aguilar.
Joey did have a spring camp though. Just at another school. His body was ready to go Day 1 when he arrived at Tennessee.

I really like Leavitt actually, I think his skill set would be magic in our offense. On par with Dobbs and Hooker. I hope we do land him and I hope he balls out. However the injury is significant and looms.

If it were my money, I would want offer a deal where he gets X amount of dollars if he plays or a smaller X amount of dollars if he sits. I dont think we are to that point with NIL yet though, but we should be.

If anything. This year's portal is teaching us that you have to have a plan A, B, and C. And probably thinking about D just in case.

I really hate that Heup is caught in this position. If you get a commitment from Leavitt then GMac might portal.
You can't go into a season with only 2 quarterbacks, and there is zero visibility on resolution of Joey's court case.
Unlimited portal movement is going to kill this sport unless addressed.
It seems to me that somewhere down the line NIL payouts are going to have to involve contracts. I don't know how that would work but this whole situation is getting a little crazy.

If I'm a booster I would be thinking WTF. This guy wants a million dollars from me today and in a few months he'll want two million from someone else. Pass

In 3 games against SEC opponents (Mississippi State and Texas) he never completed more than 52% of passes while throwing for 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. That Mississippi State defense in 2024 was dreadful. He went 10/20 and 0 touchdowns.
