there are special circumstances in certain cases. This is one where it should be granted. I dont see how it could end up being a bs excuse since it's been shown that is father is sick.
If a team is in the top 25 or not should have no bearing with the decision to release.
If bray's father became sick his only option would be fresno state since that's the only school within 3 hours. but i would have no problem with that. If bray was from Baton Rouge i would have no problem with him transferring to LSU.
If i played for UT and my father became ill I'd certainly want Georgia Tech, Auburn and UGA choices available to me.
neither douglas or brown had ailing fathers.I believe that precedent was set with the way aaron douglas and bryce brown were handled. It's important to treat each case as a separate matter, but also to be consistent with the judgement you use in previous cases with similar attributes. CDD is closer than we are to the situation, he has more facts and knowledge, and this decision by the University and CDD is an obvious reflection of their feeling that there is more to it than his father's health.
i feel like i've said it 1000 times. we recruit against all schools. it may not happen often. but if you look at last year there were 4 4* recruits that were interested in Central Michigan. Do we not go after 4* recruits? If we do then how are we not recruiting against Central Michigan? They are not being unreasonable in their conditions. We recruit against both schools, as evident by a current committ in DO'B and by DA himself. It is also within reason that, as a result of bowl ties, we could play either team in the Outback Bowl or (Lord please!) a BCS game. If his father is really important to him, he could sacrifice playing at a smaller school in order to be closer to family immediately. Besides, it's not necessary to play at a large program if your ultimate goal is to play in the NFL.
from what i read in here his father was sick and he had little/no relationship with him when he signed with ut, its also been posted that 3 weeks ago he said he was staying at ut which kills the theory of his dad getting worse all the way back at midseason, the only change that has taken place since he said he was staying at ut was that his coach was released. im all for a guy wanting to be close to his sick dad but in that case he should have signed with a closer school (if he had offers) since his dad was already in bad health when he signed with ut..jmo of course.
There is no Doubt that Tennessee should release Arnett unconditionally to any school that is not on our schedule. Dooley's decision is idiotic! Mistreating players with sick fathers will come back and bit you!!!
Not releasing him to Michigan or Michigan State is foolish. It causes me to like Dooley less. If I were not a Vol Fan, I would hope that he does not win much next year and we would fire him. But I am a Vol fan so I can not wish bad on my team.-- So sayeth the king of the village idiots.
Id like to see it explained as to why it matters if he goes to a school we recruit against. Im assuming that is the hold up since neither school mentioned is on our schedule in the future.

all schools lose money when they don't sign the recruit.i think thats in the contract just so ut can pick and choose where the student athlete can play for...lets not forget that im sure a lot of time and travel expense was spent by ut to sign him in the first place...why should ut spend all the time and money to take a chance on a kid being a good player, let him play for a year and see he is a good player and then just allow him to leave and walk into a school that already knows he is a good player without spending any money or taking a risk on whether he is a good player or not...ut is the only loser in that situation.
