Arnett to transfer?

There isn't a controversey. Dooley is following both NCAA rules and UT precident.

As a poster on another site, pointed out, "if this really about being closer to his dad, then the school he attends is secondary."

That same poster also pointed out "that Derek Dooley has a pretty good track record of assessing these "pity me" situations, despite tge mians and groans of the players (Douglas, Brown) In Pat Martin's case, he was quite supportive, but he saw through the smokescreen that was covering up deeper issues from the other pkayers".

Arnett is not helping his own cause by attacking Dooley in hus letter and sending tge letter to the media. The NCAA will see right through Arnett's excuse and deny him immediate eligibility.

Wow! I just read Arnetts "letter" on TOS. The more he talks the more I support UT. Where is Hart on this? DA should have handled his business better.

Oh... did you mean as in trying to get kids to transfer to UT? If so, they still have to follow by the terms of their LOI and subsequent release, unless special permission was given by the NCAA.

How is being honest with a kid about his future playing time, and suggesting he look elsewhere for a better opportunity even remotely the same thing? The kid ultimately decides whether to ride the pine, or look for a better opportunity. If he transfers, that's called a dissolution of a contract--both parties agree. A scholarship does not guarantee playing time.
You think it always goes down like that?

D knew of his fathers condition before hand. I HATE the situation, I truly do, but he made a commitment to UT and therefore needs to abide by the conditions of his scholarship. This happens every year, at most programs, and the kids are released.. But to smaller schools not in BCS conferences. Not to sound harsh, but it sounds like he's homesick and wants to be closer to his family. If that's the case he should have committed to State.

Bottom line.. I'm not sure what too think about the letter, or his comments about Dooley hindering him from being successful. That's not the case.

Think about it this way. If it were truly all about his father and being with him during his illness, and with his families financial problems.. Then he wouldnt care as much about what school. He would concentrate on the quickest way to turn his situation around.. Not to sit around and write emotional letters to the media.

From what I gather, he's homesick and is butt hurt because he can't do exactly what he wants. You can't committ to a program, play a year, then leave and go to another bcs program to your liking. Lifes tough sometimes.

No need to tip toe around the issue. I have NO problem with performance based contracts or annually renewed scholarships. The schools have the upper hand here, this isn't late breaking news. Fair or unfair, it's the system that's been established.

he has the time since he has missed the deadline to transfer to a school for the spring semester.

Id like to see it explained as to why it matters if he goes to a school we recruit against. Im assuming that is the hold up since neither school mentioned is on our schedule in the future.

He says he can't focus on anything because of his dad? Twitter and Nike disagree. It's sad that it has come to this. They asked him when he committed did he ever see himself as an actor. He's doing a pretty good job right now with the media.

There is no Doubt that Tennessee should release Arnett unconditionally to any school that is not on our schedule. Dooley's decision is idiotic! Mistreating players with sick fathers will come back and bit you!!!
Not releasing him to Michigan or Michigan State is foolish. It causes me to like Dooley less. If I were not a Vol Fan, I would hope that he does not win much next year and we would fire him. But I am a Vol fan so I cannot wish badly on my team.

that's why there is a controversy. The policy isn't black and white.

I believe that precedent was set with the way aaron douglas and bryce brown were handled. It's important to treat each case as a separate matter, but also to be consistent with the judgement you use in previous cases with similar attributes. CDD is closer than we are to the situation, he has more facts and knowledge, and this decision by the University and CDD is an obvious reflection of their feeling that there is more to it than his father's health. They are not being unreasonable in their conditions. We recruit against both schools, as evident by a current committ in DO'B and by DA himself. It is also within reason that, as a result of bowl ties, we could play either team in the Outback Bowl or (Lord please!) a BCS game. If his father is really important to him, he could sacrifice playing at a smaller school in order to be closer to family immediately. Besides, it's not necessary to play at a large program if your ultimate goal is to play in the NFL.

I stop reading after I saw this.
