Speaking out against oppression and wearing a shirt with fidel castro on it......lol....in miami....lol

You do know that before Fidel Castro took over black people were discriminated against very badly in Cuba. The white Cubans who make up the majority of the Cuban population in Florida were major players in that discrimination. While the treatment of black people in modern day Cuba is far from perfect, its a lot better than it was before Castro. This is why a lot of black people in America have love for Fidel Castro.

Also Fidel Castro and Cuba helped fight in Africa with black people against European colonialism. Cuba sent troops to countries like Angola to fight with Africans against Europeans. Castro also supported black South Africans in the fight against apartheid while the US government supported the racist white South African government. Its why Nelson Mandela called Fidel Castro his brother and made Cuba the first country he visited after he was named President of South Africa.

I'm guessing you didn't know these facts because your knowledge of Fidel Castro is limited to the biased version perpetuated by our government and media. Fidel Castro is a beloved figure in the black community for these reasons. He helped black people globally at a time when the United States government was supporting apartheid and European colonialism.

These threads keep taking very uninteresting turns. I almost dropped my phone 3 times after nearly nodding off while attempting to read this nonsense. It cant just be the meds... Opinions. Dull and predictable and repetitive fallacies.

...and all this time I thought he was a communist

Just giving you the black perspective on him.

As they say there are always 2 sides to a story. Colin wearing a Fidel Castro shirt wasn't an endorsement of a political idelogy but rather giving props to a guy who fought against racism and colonialism at a time when our own government wouldn't.

Black people respect what he did at a time when most other white people turned their backs on fighting against oppression. Castro and Cuba stood by us at a time of need and we'll always have love for him for that.

That's all Colin meant by wearing that shirt. It wasn't an endorsement of communism but in appreciation of a man who Nelson Mandela called a brother.

Yeah, im gonna have to pass on anyone that oppresses any group of people, regarldess if their skin color matches mine or not.

And granting amnesty to a.convicted cop killer....yeah I'll pass.

I know many cubans from south florida.and what they did to leave Cuban. Wearing a.castro shirt there is a slap in the face to all those people.

Colin Kapernick is an idiot.

Didn't know there was a black perspective on this. Very enlightening.

Well I know black Cubans from Cuba and they don't have any love for those Cubans in South Florida that are mostly white and part of the upper class that used to rule Cuba before Castro. Those white Cubans were extremely racist and oppressive toward the black Cubans.

Cuba has a very complex history. It isn't as simple as thinking the people who fled Cuba were totally innocent. They were part of the ruling class. They used to oppress other Cubans themselves before Fidel Castro turned the tables on them.

Yeah, so im gonna stick with oppression of anyone is not good and they person doing it isnt a good person.
Im.also gonna go with harboring a convicted cop killer makes you bad.
Im also gonna go with anyone that wears the shirt of a person that oppressed a bunch of people in a city where a significant portion of the people were the people oppressed by that person is an idiot.

Lots of people supported saddam hussam, osama bin Laden and Adolph Hitler too. Doesnt make them good people..

So you think native Africans want to come here and be discriminated against? You think Africa is an impoverished nation? Your poor white soul....you may want to read and travel more.

Of the poorest nations in the World, 90% are in Africa. The average African lives on less than a dollar a day. I have been to Africa twice on mission trips to deliver medicine and food. Despite your attempt at sounding intelligent while throwing in a racist jab, yes most Africans would gladly come to America.

Freedom of speech has stipulations if you are employed, salaried or not. Ask Colin Kaepernick.

Your speech is protected. Your job is not.
That's the whole problem with it all, they picked the wrong platform for their protest. Go down to the local police station and protest on your own time. I don't like politics mixed with my football. They've turned off a portion of their fanbase that will never come back. That flag has nothing to do with their protest, they just pissed a bunch of people off. Seem to enjoy it really. Can't fix stupid.

Fidel Castro imprisoned thousands without due process or a trial, allowed Che Guevera to institute firing squads, restricted freedom of speech/religion/movement/private property/press, created re-education/forced labor camps for political opponents and destroyed the Cuban economy. Prior to Castro's Cuba, its economy was nearly half that of the US and rivaled those of many nations in Europe. Between 1960-2010, after Fidel's revolution, the Cuban economy hovered near the worst in the World. It has only now began to recover since his departure from power. Simply because some left wing politicians idolize Fidel, Che, and Mao doesn't automatically change their brutal policies. During the 1980's under President Reagan, the US government began to boycott South African goods forcing DeKlerk to speed up Apartheid changes. Mandela's first official visit as President of South Africa was to the US, not Cuba. European colonialism ended following World War 1 with most nations gaining their independence from European powers during the 1930's/1940's, Fidel Castro wasn't born until 1926. Since Nelson Mandela may have admired Fidel, does that excuse the crimes he committed against his own people. How many US troops have died overseas protecting/helping free other nations since you admire Castro's supposed contributions to Angola? Thousands of Cubans have fled the impoverished nation on makeshift rafts, with many drowning at sea, risking their life to escape. Were those people part of this vast conspiracy against Fidel? Are you suggesting that Fidel helped more minorities globally than the US? The US gives nearly 2 billion dollars in aid to Africa each year. I included links just in case you think it is some conspiracy against Fidel again:

He really turned the tables on them, right? Just like the leaders in Venezuela and Zimbabwe, unfortunately the average citizen get's to eat the turd sandwich while self righteous intellectuals in the US get to admire their "great" accomplishments

I still don’t understand in the slightest why people get worked up over NFL players being vocal about issues.

All those 70s and 80s bands were obviously on drugs, it didn’t make their music less entertaining, but it was a hell of a lot more destructive than bitching about police brutality.

Really disappointed in Kamara. We have the media to blame for most of this nonsense. Those who comply with orders rarely have any issues. There can be a bad apple in any profession. With that being said, you know what's great about America, if you don't like it you are free to go. Not trying to sound smart, but the PC battles are getting old. You are being paid to play ball. Just do it.
Another great thing about America is that you don't have to be butt hurt whenever a person playing a kid's game on Sunday does something that has ZERO effect on your life.

Another great thing about America is that you can stay and try to change it for the better.

Actually there are quite a few people that share my opinion. That is one of the reasons that stadiums look empty. Why sales are down. And when you put that someone's opinion doesn't matter or is irrelevant is the same as saying they can have freedom of speech, but you can't. Quite a few people are tired of football turning into some kind of political statement. As for the owner, it speaks more to his character if he allows this type of thing to occur.
Meh... I would argue that it is because tix prices are at a max premium and that people just don't watch as much TV in general than they used to a generation ago.

And you say this while the US military spends millions of dollars to propagandize and recruit more fresh bodies with their presence at NFL games.

The military makes the games political.

Maybe Kaepernick should have worn a Bautista T-shirt and "Thin Blue Line" socks...

That's interesting... because the United States supported and armed 2 of the 3 you mentioned here. And there were several influential Americans that supported Hitler.
