A Question:

I made a good-faith attempt at conducting an objective analysis influenced by neither passion nor prejudice, and without first reading through the thread.
My initial answer was 29. I did it again -- this time wearing my pessimism pants -- and arrived at 27 teams.

27 is therefore my final answer.

What do 8 yrs have to do with anything? So you went back the exact amount of yrs that you had to so cal could look better than oregon. Seems much more relevant to go back 2 yrs to when kelly took over. Oregon is easily the best team in the pac 10. Cal is a declining program that was never really very good to begin with. Get ready to miss a bowl game and get crushed by the only top tier pac 10 team. Oregon

This wouldn't be so funny if it wasn't posted by the biggest fulmer slurper on the planet, who rambles on incessantly about how great the philopotomus was in the mid 90s.

To me it would seem more logical to split the difference....28 :)

I can't decide if BOP is a 50 year old redneck that is always drunk, or a 12 year old kid that gets his info from his dad (who is always drunk).

Either way, I feel sorry for him.

If you think Tennessee v. North Carolina or Wisconsin is a toss up, you did a very poor job of putting "all bias aside."

So you don't agree with 2 of my toss ups and I'm biased? Why would I be biased against North Carolina or Wisconsin? Maybe if I said we'd beat Florida and Alabama, that'd be biased. Wisconsin went 10-3 and lost to the only "good" Big 10 teams (Ohio State and Penn St) and then lost to cinderella Iowa in a close one. Beat a streaky Miami team with a month to prepare. The only teams they stomped were Wofford, Purdue, Michigan and Hawaii (all very poor teams). They had close calls nearly every week. We either beat or took far better teams to the wire besides Va Tech and Ole Miss. I figured we may be able to do the same with the Badgers.

North Carolina went 8-5 with loses to terrible Virginia and NC State. They also lost to Georgia Tech and Pitt, with notable wins over Miami and Va Tech. Butch Davis has yet to turn the Tar Heels football into an unstoppable force. You can't say we couldn't beat them on a neutral field. That's the thing about college football, it's random. We could very well beat any of my Loss columns and get blown out by one of my Win columns.

Those were only the two most glaring examples of your sheepdom. Tennessee would be lucky to score against UNC. Oregon State, Oregon, Stanford and several of those other "toss ups" would dust UT on a neutral field. Tennessee will be starting a QB who couldn't get on the field at Louisville behind one of the least experienced offensive lines in the country. It's going to be bad, real bad. Some people seem to have chosen to overlook this.

Exactly. I could agree with some of these if it was last year's team but the 2010 Vols are gonna be bad and inexperienced in key positions, no matter the coaching situation. You don't lose your starting QB, HB, entire OL, your two best defensive guys among others and not have a dropoff.

Depends on whether the guys who replaced them are better or not.

The Pac 10 was the toughest to pick because it has been completly random including the fall of USC last year. Oregon State has a great running back, and could probably beat us 6 times out of 10 and so would a Masoli-less Oregon and a Toby Gerhart-less Stanford. But we could possibly do the same to them, thus the toss up. When we have a 30-70% chance of winning, I say its a toss up. With a team like Vandy or Rutgers I think we have a 70-100% chance of winning, so that's a win. Alabama, USC, Texas, Ohio State we have a 0-30% of winning, so that's a loss. As for Simms not getting on the field, that was a kid being a stupid kid. Yet another reason why college football is so random. I'm confident he would start there now. I forget you're a guru though.
