2025 Transfer Portal Thread

on Pozzato, the shooting is a concern. Hopefully he's putting up 1,000 shots a day. He's decent as a spot-up guy, but looks like he struggles trying to create his own shot. Getting to the basket is great in the Missouri Valley, but if you can't shoot that's not going to translate to the SEC. Having said that, he was just a freshman this past season, so I wouldn't expect him to be a finished product yet. I do like the swagger he plays with and I can see why we're interested.
Ideally, he would shoot better from 3, so yes, hopefully he's getting up shots. However, he shot better than Gainey did from 3 in either of the past two seasons. He's a very good fit for our offense in that his strength seems to be scoring off of ball screens and handoffs, which we use heavily.

I said it earlier in this thread, but he looks like what I imagine a freshman version of Dalton Knecht would have looked like. Obvious athleticism and ability, but unrefined. As you alluded to, the good thing is that he has plenty of time to improve on his weaknesses and further develop his strengths given he's just a freshman.

So in your opinion they’re targeting/actively recruiting hard and looking to add all of: Ament, Rice, Pozzato & Freeman?

I'm not sure why you feel the need to prosecute the matter beyond the content of what I said. You well know that the pace of the recruitment of different players runs on different timelines. You also know that we obviously won't get 100% of the players we pursue. The pace of Ament is mid next week, as perceived by those in our program, and is not forcing us to change course on anyone. Freeman has been discussing a visit, but so far that isn't booked. My knowledge of Pozzato goes as deep as I've shared. He has a back issue, was cleared. We will want to do more diligence. That's exactly what I know. I am not familiar with Wilkerson discussions, or if we're having them. Rice is a stated top priority, is visiting first and likely will commit first unless something changes. As you know, urgency and demand change hourly in recruiting. As of this morning, Rice is a weekend priority, Ament is mid next week timing, and not forcing us to change course (that could change), We're trying to get Freeman to visit. Pozzato is developing, and unknown to me where that lands. My opinion of whether we are "recruiting hard" going to "add all" of Ament, Rice, Pozzato and Freeman would be highly unlikely, but I don't think that matters.

Edit/Addendum: I just saw your post about money, and don't think we can fit all those players in the budget. I agree. My personal opinion, as I said, is that Ament might be higher upside, but higher risk. I agree with both of you, that I'd be fine cutting that off if it risked other solid additions.

I just report the news. I don't get to alter it. My point is I think we currently look at Ament as a thing that might break our way without jeopardizing the timeline of anything else. That doesn't mean we are guaranteed every other player we're looking at. It just means the current timelines aren't forcing us to make that call. I agree that we should cut bait if we're risking losing someone. I just don't think we are. As I mentioned earlier, I think Ament is higher risk than most people think. He might do really well banging with developed strong players next year, but the price makes it pretty speculative given his body development and the fact that he'll be gone in a year.
Right, that wasn't a shot at you or your info. Just a hypothetical preference of mine, which ultimately means/affects nothing. Heck, as long as we're wishing, give me those three I mentioned AND Ament. That's obviously highly doubtful, but nice that we have some options.

I think after Rice we only have enough money for Freeman. We also have a recruiting class to bring in.

We can pick up some filler pieces but I don't think we have much money left. I could be wrong though, I have been before.

I’m warming up to Pozzato. The best thing about him is he has multiple years to play. If he could just push his 3p% above 35%, he could explode onto the scene.

I am just going to go with Coach and hope enough FITS want to join us. How do they fit regardless of cost vs how do they fit AT their cost to US is just such an unknown. Part of the successful chemistry equation. Impacted of course by needs of other programs and how they allocate their available funds. Not a lot of going in absolutes out there to assess staff plan and execution. Can’t add 1 and sour multiples and max out potential. Players comparative analysis with each addition is a real thing. Really want to avoid it being a yield process if possible. Best fits schematically could be horrible fits financially. Not hard to recognize talent. Nearly impossible to assess chemistry from the outside.

So I will sit and wait with hope, not expectations.
The definition of hope is expectation. There is a difference between wishing and hoping.

Shouldn't be too hard to do. If he would have hit 5 more threes he'd be above 35%.

For a comparison...

Knecht freshman year: 48-133 (36%)

Pozzato freshman year: 44-139 (32%)

Our recruiting class is not highly rated. I can’t imagine it’s taking that many resources to ensure those guys get to campus. Doubt that is impacting our transfer portal haul much.

Guess I am more of a Websters def guy, where it implies a SLIGHT expectation or possibility of good things being in play, NOT a basis for wailing, moaning, and declaration of failure if it does not come to pass. I did not diss Santa when Christmas did not yield my fondest dreams and started next cycle wishes immediately.

I would disagree. It seems they are still pretty aggressive with Ament and they know that Rice is likely to commit prior to Ament, if they feel like they can continue to pursue Ament knowing his timeline is after that of Rice, I think there’s money left to be spent. I don’t get the vibe from what’s been said that if Rice commits we drop the pursuit of Ament and that would have to mean we have some decent money left after Rice.
