If some of these NIL numbers being thrown around are true it is crazy. For example, all the money the Duke crew spent and they didn’t win the championship. There is no return on spending this money other than winning a championship. Do you think the Duke crew funding the NIL this year is happy about finishing 3/4. Again I’m just using Duke as an example.
Hot take here: spending that much money has little to no return even with a championship for the donors. Special access to 18-22 years olds? This is not correct. They are very strategic with their pool of money. They paid a fair price for Gillespie but they didn’t have to overpay, for reasons. Carey was a moneyball get, the market value for him was much lower than our staff’s opinion of him. And that leaves wiggle room to spend elsewhere.I think after Rice we only have enough money for Freeman. We also have a recruiting class to bring in.
We can pick up some filler pieces but I don't think we have much money left. I could be wrong though, I have been before.
Spurned Villanova fans saying something is a lot different than Trilly. It's not that surprising, considering that Nova also made a massive offer to JG that he turned down.I call BS on 3 million to Rice. People said the same thing about Gillespie to TN but we all know that was BS. People love to overinflate NIL offers
You maybe right, but but I tend to stay on the conservative side.I would disagree. It seems they are still pretty aggressive with Ament and they know that Rice is likely to commit prior to Ament, if they feel like they can continue to pursue Ament knowing his timeline is after that of Rice, I think there’s money left to be spent. I don’t get the vibe from what’s been said that if Rice commits we drop the pursuit of Ament and that would have to mean we have some decent money left after Rice.
I don’t think that’s accurate simply based off our continued pursuit of Ament, if you don’t have enough money to be in the conversation then there’s no point in having those discussions with his camp that we are.I think after Rice we only have enough money for Freeman. We also have a recruiting class to bring in.

I don't think it's bs. Pretty sure Gillespie turned down the 3m for about half of that to play for his dream school growing up. Rice is from Maryland, so we won't have the same advantage with him. Let's hope he's besties with Gillespie and hope he wasn't too fond of his former coach.I call BS on 3 million to Rice. People said the same thing about Gillespie to TN but we all know that was BS. I don't know the ins and outs of how this works, but couldn't they pursue both Ament and others at the same time?Maybe I’m wrong, but I disagree, not necessarily from a spots standpoint, but a $$$ standpoint. If you land Rice as is expected you’re down to 3 spots, and you sorely are lacking 1-2 more shooters on this roster, the number of those guys left in the portal isn’t huge and more will be coming off the board in the next week.
If you asked me would you rather Option A. Pass on Ament right now and go land say, Wikenrson, Pozzato & Freeman to go with Rice or Option B. Continue pursuing Ament, with an at best 50/50 shot of getting him, take your chances there and just be left him Rice and potentially Ament.
I’m going Option A every single time, but that’s jmo
State tax is about 3%. Local tax in suburbs of Philly might add another 3%. Let’s call that 200k hit vs Tn on 3mm. Our sales tax is high, but theirs is too. I don’t think COL will really hit him. He’s not buying a house. A jar of peanut butter and rolling papers are probably similar in cost. I think the bigger reality is that the 3mm offer is probably X guaranteed and Y incentives. We’ve been able to show the math that our number is closer than it appears based on the odds of hitting certain metrics. There is a massive state tax and COLA to be considered between the two schools, so I don’t think you have to be at $3m or probably even that close, but if you thought you’d get him for a bargain that’s also not likely. Would guess he’ll be a similar deal as to Gillespie in my estimation.
