If I’m being greedy….then Rice, Pozzato and Atwell please. One of Zato or Atwell comes off the bench in the 6th man role.

Who knows maybe we lane Rice and Pozzato, then the 5th year gets approved later. We bring Gainey back.

Gainey would honestly be a perfect addition to next year’s roster. I just don’t want to be caught with the issue both us and Maryland had this year which is a bench that doesn’t offer you much. Making a Final Four requires depth. I’m not saying we need to be 12-13 deep, but I’d like to have at least one proven and reliable scorer to come off the bench and not have to rely on Boswell, Evans, or Henderson to give us big minutes.

I think you’re presenting an imaginary choice. As I said yesterday, the timelines of other players are moving at the pace they’re moving. We’re trying to get Freeman on campus and Pozzato just cleared a medical hurdle. What exactly would we do to change emphasis? Ament is happening or not. We aren’t shutting that down over the weekend to spend more time spamming players who already know we’re interested. I do not have a bead on Wilkerson, but if we lose Pozzato or Freeman, it won’t be because we were daydreaming about Ament. Rice is a focus this weekend. If Freeman suddenly wants to come this weekend, I’m sure we’d adjust.

I honestly think it’s kind of smart to wait until the post tournament transfer window, rosters can look entirely different vs when the rest of his class committed

That's exactly what I was hinting at in my previous post. I'd absolutely punt on Ament right now if you told me it meant we got Rice, Pozzato, and Freeman.

on Pozzato, the shooting is a concern. Hopefully he's putting up 1,000 shots a day. He's decent as a spot-up guy, but looks like he struggles trying to create his own shot. Getting to the basket is great in the Missouri Valley, but if you can't shoot that's not going to translate to the SEC. Having said that, he was just a freshman this past season, so I wouldn't expect him to be a finished product yet. I do like the swagger he plays with and I can see why we're interested.

Yall act like our coaches can’t actively recruit more than a few players at once lol. A lot of rumors of him committing somewhere very soon.

It is a little worrisome that he’s at the Nike Hoops Summit with 3 other Dukies atm…

I am just going to go with Coach and hope enough FITS want to join us. How do they fit regardless of cost vs how do they fit AT their cost to US is just such an unknown. Part of the successful chemistry equation. Impacted of course by needs of other programs and how they allocate their available funds. Not a lot of going in absolutes out there to assess staff plan and execution. Can’t add 1 and sour multiples and max out potential. Players comparative analysis with each addition is a real thing. Really want to avoid it being a yield process if possible. Best fits schematically could be horrible fits financially. Not hard to recognize talent. Nearly impossible to assess chemistry from the outside.

So I will sit and wait with hope, not expectations.

So in your opinion they’re targeting/actively recruiting hard and looking to add all of: Ament, Rice, Pozzato & Freeman?

He would be the perfect slashing wing though. Long and athletic. Good traits to teach defense. He’s a terror in transition it looks like. He would be a nice pickup and not a bad Gainey replacement. They had comparable 3pt numbers.

Gainey was 49/161 for 30.4%
Pozzato was 44/139 for 31.7 %

I just report the news. I don't get to alter it. My point is I think we currently look at Ament as a thing that might break our way without jeopardizing the timeline of anything else. That doesn't mean we are guaranteed every other player we're looking at. It just means the current timelines aren't forcing us to make that call. I agree that we should cut bait if we're risking losing someone. I just don't think we are. As I mentioned earlier, I think Ament is higher risk than most people think. He might do really well banging with developed strong players next year, but the price makes it pretty speculative given his body development and the fact that he'll be gone in a year.

I think some, at least me, not just question the timing potentially holding others but are also considering the money aspect, that’s why I asked what I did about those 4 names. If we are recruiting all 4 hard and actively wanting to land all 4 and would take all 4 then hell yes I’m all for it, but I question if we have the funds to land those other 3 if we were to land Ament, that’s what I am questioning, the money aspect, not just the timing.
