'19 CA QB JT Daniels (Georgia commit)

Worley had one big win (SC) and never led a team to a winning record. JG has more. It’s a human tendency to see the NOW and project it as the worst ever. Not stumping for our returning starter; but some of us have way too much perspective on the subject.

“JG’s more” isn’t much more lol...JG’ numbers are almost the same as Worley’s and Worley played way less games.

Well since some of you are so confident that he is better than JG, the numbers should be easy to produce. If he comes here and wins the starting job then I am all for it and will hope he flourishes. But just assuming he is better than all our QBs based off of nothing more than hype is silly.

No you dullard, it isn't about stats, it's about watching his obvious talent. Gets the ball out quickly, can look off a DB, hits guys in stride, hits the back shoulder fade, gets the ball out well on the run. JG has literally never done those things and he has had four years.

This is something that anyone who knows even a little bit about football can see. You're making yourself look like a jackass.

How many games did Worley start ? I remember him but never remember feeling a sense of dread with any other UT Qb like I do when JG takes the field. I have about as much confidence in his abilities that JG shows each time he takes the field. He just doesn’t have confidence and it shows every time he plays with the exception of maybe one game a year.
Worley had the mess Dooley left behind him as a backdrop and an ill fit in the offense Butch brought to Knoxville all going against him. Because of this, he has a fond spot in many Vol fans hearts. He plugged away, played with injury, displayed a great attitude et al. But as much (deserved) flak for the groaner at Bama for JG this past season, Worley outdid him in spades. Every Florida game was a clinic in high pressure breakdowns...in games that were there for the win. No QB mastered the ill-timed red zone fumble and end zone interception at his level. Absence heart fonder thing.

worse than JG? eh................................................................................................................................gonna have to disagree iwth that.

I know I know you guys have already talked stats and I understand both sides but JG is way ahead of kelly in all stats.
And kelly played on some great teams

i'm not necessarily saying any of this to JG's detriment, as much as i am saying that Kelly was pretty dang good. and for the era we were in at the time in college football, he was the type of QB programs were moving toward, and had been for most of the 80's....

and yeah, the teams he got play on were definitley better. but aside from tony Robinson, i'd argue that he was by far the best QB of that decade, and is one of the primary reasons we were able to land guys like Shuler, Manning etc....

maybe that's why i hold him in such high regard, i think he was extremely valuable to the development of the program, and really helped Majors/Fulmer/Cutcliffe/Sanders with crediblity on offense to usher in the 90's.

i still think those teams were some of the most fun teams to watch we ever had....

I have never seen a QB who should have been really good, struggle so much under “the pressure of the situation” like Peterman. Kid was a head case .

He played so nervously on the field. Florida 2013 will always be the worst performance ever by a UT QB. LSU first half in 05 a close 2nd.

I just can’t agree that he was “good”. I think in the era he played in he got a lot of the good ole TENNESSEE boy benefit of the doubt. His stats were down right awful and that’s shocking to me with all the talent he played with.

I don’t think a player that threw 38 picks which was more than his touchdowns would ever be considered good in this day and age of social media and message boards. He was just a good ole Tennessee boy but a bad QB imo

There was really only one guy on a Short Leash like that and it was JT Shrout who had no interceptions... (his only one was called back on a roughing the passer penalty).

Maurer threw a ton of interceptions and still was allowed to play.

Never understood that. But it is, what it is.

Also, regarding sweeping the roster clean? WTH was he supposed to do that with? He barely had any players he wanted. He had like 10 days to recruit his Early Signing class and another 2 months to recruit his normal Signing class.....

I'm just whining. It is what it is.

They pulled Maurer once even after he led a drive for a FG in the first half (which was their only score to that point). Played JG the nearly all of rest of the game. Shrout throws a strike to Callaway for a TD, gets a handful more plays and is done - basically for the season other than token appearances. There were many more situations like those throughout the season, JG always got the benefit of the doubt, the freshmen did not.

If he removed the half dozen bad apples early in the process he could have still fielded a team without the internal dissension with the remaining 75+. It was a team coming off a 4-8 season with a fired coaching staff - internal roster dissension was a big deal.

I get what you are saying and agree with part of it. It was an ugly period. But I also distinctly remember Worley having to run a spread O that emphasized zone read - something that he had no ability to do well. They refused to adapt the scheme to their QB's skill set.

Worley could never get over 6.3 ypa in a season, 1 td:20 attempts, a 125 qbr, or a 1.5 td:int ratio. He was really bad, as were some of those late Fulmer QBs. We have undoubtedly seen worse.

That is no excuse for JG and we can certainly upgrade. The 2 are not mutually exclusive.

He played so nervously on the field. Florida 2011 will always be the worst performance ever by a UT QB. LSU first half in 05 a close 2nd.

I’m just guessing from comments like this people really have forgotten just how bad our OLine was those years lol nothing even close to what JG has ever experienced and those are facts.

It was 2013, not 2011. Correction on my end.

And Peterman started behind an experienced OL in that 13 Florida game and we had guys on that OL that played on Sunday’s. 2014’s OL was god awful, but he had a good line in 2013.

I see much worse td:int, ypa, and qbr by Worleybird.

32 tds/13 ints vs 23 td/21 ints.
7.9 ypa vs 6.4

Worley was just that bad 🤣

But JG is just so insufferably bad in the red zone 😑😐

Would be a step forward if someone beats him out, but this year's ol gonna fix our rz problems regardless. Nobody will touch EG or TC for the first 4 yards. A sight for sore eyes 😬

I think Andy Kelly won 2 SEC Championship.

I think the bottom line is does one believe QBs win games or teams. In Kelly’s case I think his teams were natty title talented and he held them back. We all know JGs teams haven’t been talented nor well coached especially on the offensive side of the ball.
