Nope. If his mind was made up like that then there's absolutely no reason not to go public.... NONE. He said he almost committed when he got the offer then thought better of it.

That may well be where he ends up... I don't know. But if it were final then it would be final.

I see several people saying that it would be dumb for Scroggins to go to USC because they would sign a stud QB in a future class. What makes you so sure we wouldn't do the same thing? The problem we've had with QB recruiting this year is that not only were there fewer elite QBs in this class than usual, but almost all of them were from the West Coast. We should have a much better chance of signing a top-notch QB in 2011, because not only will there be more talent available, but many of them are from the Southeast. Even if we somehow end up getting Scroggins, I think there's a good chance that we "recruit over" him with a better QB in 2011. JMO

Short answer, we will do that very same thing. If JS were to commit to us it would not stop CLK from continually trying to recruit the best players, including QB's, every year. Also, I hear many say JS would walk right in and start as a freshman. Not so fast folks. That's not a given either. IMO the biggest upside to JS was his name and ability to pull in other elite recruits. Personally, I'm excited at the prospect of getting Rettig. IMO he fit the pro-style mold better and if his head is in the right place I think he becomes the better QB down the road.

somebody mentioned in an earlier post that it is not. im not 100% sure though. it is in his picture files for sure though.

immediatley, i think that JS is the better of the two QBs. i think Rettig may have more upside, and with tutoring, slide into the pro-style offensive scheme better. he has, IMO (which dont count for Sh*t), has more of a suitable build for muscle growth too (i only say this bc JS looks like a toothpick. he could bulk up with some dedication in the gym). JS attracts recruits though, but thats not to say Rettig wont have a break out senior campaign and draw some recruits who are already committed or at a cross towards us. Lastly, im not counting out JS. if his decision was final, he would have made it already. there is absolutley nothing to be gained from drawing it out to June 25 let alone July 25. I give him a USC lean. CUM is probably more interested in getting JS NOT to go to UT rather than to go to UF IMO.

no. just an offer. he nearly committed to BC though. id bet he commits soon after JS decides, if not sooner.

I'm amazed at how many fans have overlooked the single-most telling fact in the Scroggins recruiting saga...

While in Knoxville, he was too injured to perform. Yet just days later when given the chance to show Coach Carrol and the USC staff what he was made of, he put on his dancing shoes.

Anyone who knows anything about human behavior and motivation recognizes this for what it is. Put yourself in a similar scenario. You've likely had a job interview for a job that you certainly wouldn't mind having and also have had a job interview for a job you absolutely coveted. Think about how your behavior may have differed...

I wish Scroggins the best and look forward to landing Rettig and/or whomever our future QB will be.

Go Big Orange!

Scroggins was nowhere near 100% at USC camp.. he made it through and performed very well but if you watch the camp vids you can tell that hip was hurting him in his drop and was a little stiff on certain movements.

Dang...Jacques Smith please call him and talk to him. Also, where is that dude from Ooltewah, TN that was on hear telling us how he knows Jacques. Maybe he can give us an update on a phone call between Jacques and Scroggins.....

I'm almost to the point where I say screw it, sign Lamaison, Rettig, and Grayson and let's get on with business. JS can have his family come watch him ride the bench all he wants at USC.

...of course, this is the reason I wouldn't be a good recruiter. I would still take JS in a heartbeat.

Just imagine if Kelly was here like some wanted. He would of stopped talking to JS by now if JS ever spoke to him:birgits_giggle:

Those three sound good to me.... I think we can win a lot of games with these guys...

+1
Jesse James Scroggins, the Bench Riding Bandit! :) At least he has front row seats to all the Trojan's games :good!:

I have thought all along Kiffin was behind Jesse putting this off. But that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. The Rettig offer tells us all we need to know. I think we are moving on.

I really liked Scroggins and it is going to suck to see the kid put a different hat on when he announces. But we have to hope Rettig will see the Big Orange Light at the end of the tunnel and come to knoxville. With the UA game, all the interviews, camps. He is getting ready to blow up himself. Hopefully we didn't wait to long. We will see. We have to get some decent QB's in here.

If not UT is going to look alot like the Ol'Miss teams Orgeron had. You can look at them and see how important the postion is and you can forget winning anything in this conference with average QB play. Hopefully all works out. We will see?

I'd say the 2006 SEC Championship Game indicates otherwise.

Mustain was a true freshman who played well most of the year stuggled some near the end of the year and Nutt went to Dick. (They both should have been Gamecocks). Mustain was one of the top two QB's in his class. Dick played pretty well up until that game. But that FL defense was pretty good.

FL had Leak and Superman. I would say those were two pretty good QB's.

I would say both of those teams had good if not great play from there QB's. I know you couldn't compare our situation to them.
