IMO I think Scroggins was a lot like Brunetti. He was pissed that his fave in-state school wasn't showing him any love. Brunetti just acted on his frustration and committed to WVU. Scroggins waited it out and will likely take the offer that he wanted from the beginning.

The bright side of this is, and I'm not saying we're out of it, look what our coaches have been able to do. They took a highly-touted recruit from USC's backyard and made him consider us (5-7 last year) just as seriously as he did UF and USC. Awesome job IMO.

it is a great job. but moral victories dont accumulate to real victories on the field unfortunatley :(

but this was just the beginning. we have a winning year, pick up a decent QB (um, Rettig), and CLK wont strike out again. few years time, we will have signed a top class QB by now, and working on a second for that class IMO.

I was thinking the same thing. It's not that I don't trust Hubbs a lot more than a lot of other sources, but this is a guy who seemed to think it was down to UF/UT for the last month or two and it seriously hasn't seemed that way in the least.

So in the end, I think we still don't really know what Jesse's going to do yet.

All Hubbs said was that USC and Tennessee are both very confident. He didn't indicate that it was between those two schools at all. I think it is, but that's not what he said.

I really don't think Scroggins is still a Vol. I'd be nervous with him that he might even change his mind before signing day...if he did in fact give us a verbal.

Scroggins was nowhere near 100% at USC camp.. he made it through and performed very well but if you watch the camp vids you can tell that hip was hurting him in his drop and was a little stiff on certain movements.

True, but you're actually bolstering my point. He COMPETED, even though he wasn't 100%. The fact that he didn't even attempt to do so while in Knoxville speaks volumes.

Mustain was a true freshman who played well most of the year stuggled some near the end of the year and Nutt went to Dick. (They both should have been Gamecocks). Mustain was one of the top two QB's in his class. Dick played pretty well up until that game. But that FL defense was pretty good.

FL had Leak and Superman. I would say those were two pretty good QB's.

I would say both of those teams had good if not great play from there QB's. I know you couldn't compare our situation to them.

Leak was average. Mustain and Dick were far below average.

That's true, and to be fair, as cryptic as Jesse has been since his visit to UT and the following visit to USC, I don't think anyone can be blamed for just voicing their opinion on what direction he could be leaning.

I guess there for a while it did seem like Florida was right there, I just think obviously since the USC camp that it's been much clearer.

I suppose one of four scenarios is true:

1.) Coaches know Jesse's going to USC, and Rettig is a silent commit. (Oddly, I think this is most possible of all scenarios but the part about why Rettig would be a silent confuses me if they already know prior to the 25th)

2.) From the horse's mouth, they feel from talking to Jesse that he's still undecided, while Rettig is a silent totally contigent on Jesse's decision on the 25th. If this is the case, Rettig as a silent at least makes more sense.

3.) They know Jesse's going to USC, and Rettig is an unknown. He may be tempted by Boston College (however sad that may be), and thus why we are tossing around some additional interest in Mason, maintaining Brunetti's recruiting, etc, now that Chase becomes the #1 target.

4.) They don't know what either Jesse or Chase is going to do. This is by far the scariest scenario, and basically means to pack up your 2010 bags and start talking 2011.

My personal view is #1. Don't ask for a link--just IMO.

I think if he is a silent, then they want him to hold out the announcement just in case Scroggins has a change of heart. They don't want to show Scroggins they are jumping ship on him.

((Also-As comfortable as Scroggins has been with the Vols, he does have one concern.

“Just basically all the hoopla that’s going on — all the violations and stuff,” Scroggins said on Monday.))

This sounds like him giving himself an excuse to not commit to UT. What high school junior really cares about secondary violations? Not looking good fellas

He has found his excuse not to come to UT. Our coaches need to cut their losses and move on. It is not like he is an exceptional player anyway in an average year for QB's. Rettig has a better up side and the brains to go with it as things stand now.

I guess when CR commits to BC you all will be saying you did'nt want him anyway, Hutson Mason is a much better option.

remember people, these are just commitements. this time last year, nu'keese was a uf commit and janzen jackson was a lsu commit.

i would love for these guys to commit to ut from the get go, but it's where they sign their LOI that i'm more worried about. scroggins could very well commit to usc the 25th, but come national signing day, he could be a vol. we've already seen that scenario played out with this staff, who's to say it can't or won't happen again.
