Big 10+1 Commisioner

...it's about whatever the media wants it to be.

Which is why I refer to non-production as snobbery. It's the sort of stuff that the media uses to promote whoever they like, in this context.

"Yeah, this quarterback has 58 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions to go with 1900 rushing yards and an unbeaten record. But he's not as good as this one who has 9 TD passes and 26 INTs. It's only you knuckle-draggers who don't understand the game the way I do who actually put stock into a guy's production."

See the media love for Derek Jeter versus Alex Rodriguez and tell me it's not the same. As far as who the better player is, it's not even close....yet the media would have us believe Jeter is so great because of "what doesn't show up in the numbers" (which is spurious anyway, since nearly anything in baseball can be quantified)

I think Troy Smith's winning of the heisman this year is completely justified...if you take him off OSU this year they are lucky to go .500...

That's ridiculous. UT might have made a BCS bowl with the schedule OSU played. Justin Zwick easily would have guided them to 2-loss at worst record. Conversely, Troy Smith wouldn't have been too special on a lot of other teams.

Based on what?

Based on assumption. If he went 206th in the draft and Woodson went top 5, I am going to assume that Woodson was just a better coverage guy, because I can't look at all my game tapes and make the decision.

See Texas 05 what happens when Zwick played. When Smith came out the Buckeyes lost, even Tressel said that was one thing he regretted about that year

Who was the second overall player drafted the year Woodson and Manning came out?

If you wanted to win the arguement you could just point out that Jones plays WR for the Tampa Bay Bucs now.

Yes, let's bring up something that far in the past, and blame it on Notre Dame.

You're talking expertly about a Heisman race that occurred when you were 5. He can go back as far into the past as he wants as far as I'm concerned. :)

Often? Often doesn't count as criteria. It is true or false. The truth is, Woodson wasn't the best player in football that year, end of story.

It's hard to agree with that. Woodson certainly was outstanding that year. The bottom line is he came through with championships on the line, so that certainly swung people his way.

They were national champs that year. Bad example. Tressel should have regretted a conservative offense and not playing Ted Ginn.

I agree 100% with the first part, but don't like the baseball analogy at all. Baseball players hold their "legacy" or outcome(s) in their own hands waaaaayyyy more so than any football player. It's pitcher vs. batter (more or less, I do realize there are baserunners and other aspects that affect the outcome of an at bat)

PayWad chokes in the playoffs, period.

They destroyed almost everyone in the regular season bad enough it wouldn't have mattered.

Zwick wasn't even the backup this year I believe it was Beackman or something like that...Zwick is garbage and OSU would not have won the Big Ten with him at the helm...

The award isn't given for TEAM accomplishment! It is for whoever is the best player, bar-none in college football.
