It sounds like his father has gotten progressively worse. I cannot blame him for wanting to be closer, and can't say I wouldn't do the same. I hope the fans can support that and not go all crazy on him.
He has gotten worse. There is a lot to this story that is probably out there on google, and I am working so I dont have time to reproduce it, but the kid is 9+ hours away from a very sick father. Hindsight is 20/20, and even better for us messageboarders. But in the real life, crap happens. He played his tail off for the Vols, and gave all he had while he was here.
Crap happens. I do not believe he is bailing on the team, he is trying to take care of life as it unfolds. Im 46 years old, and my 78 year old father is still with me, but battling cancer. If I had the opportunity I would move back home in an instant to be closer to him while I can. I can feel what the kid is going through.

I agree. I would rather him have to go the d-2 route, but I'm just saying that as a pissed off fan.no. Seriously. Recruits pay attention to that kind of stuff. If you are 17 and you see a coach not releasing a kid that wants to be closer to his sick dad, that makes a difference somewhere.
And it may only be 1 in 1000 kids that notice, but that one kid may be the one you really need on your team. It is just not smart as a recruiter to NOT release a kid under
these circumstances.
I realize that CP would start over him if he came no matter what, but does anything think that this might help sway CP to UT since we are losing one of our brightest WR's?
When I first saw the article in the Sentinel, I was like "Oh, crap." Then I had to stop and ask for forgiveness. We have to give Deanthony the benefit of the doubt. Whatever imposition it will be for us to lose him, he is going through something immensely more difficult; there is no comparison. I am a die-hard Vol fan, but football means next to nothing in the proverbial grand scheme of things.
I am blessed as a guy Deanthony's age to have two healthy, happy parents, and I can't imagine what it would be like for one of them to be seriously ill. We should be praying for Deanthony, his dad, and his family. Football will take care of itself.
If you take too tough of a stance, the day his dad passes away will be a very bad one for the Vol program. You dont want to be the program that kept a kid from spending more time with his dying dad.
Things have changed in a year. There have been shootings that involved friends back in Saginaw, his dad is in worse shape than when he left, and he is a year older and wiser.
I wish the kid the best, even if he ends up at um. This is a tough time for him, and this is not an easy decision to make.
I think he was leaving no matter what Baggett did.. think it was just a matter of time. He has been unhappy ever since he got here..
