I know we didn’t play well, but people waking up this morning still upset that we didn’t play well and WON need to move on. Look at how Week 2 went across the country. Look at how much poor football was played.

TAMU loses at home to unranked App State. Notre Dame loses at home to unranked Marshall. Florida loses at home to Kentucky. Alabama struggled on the road against a backup QB. Georgia scored as many points on Sanford as we did against Pitt. Auburn eeked out a win at home against SAN JOSE STATE!

We’re in a far better spot than most other teams out there, and we have another week to clean things up before our next big test.

One thing I noticed was that we blitzed alot this game…. Maybe we at least are starting to trust the secondary more…. The long tight end pass was thrown to the side that we sent a cb blitz… he was wide open bc nobody filled that hole that we blitzed from….. I hope we keep dialing up the pressure.
This, now if we just roll up the corners at the LOS more often. I feel like part of the reason we give the middle up so much is because we start everyone 5-6 yards off the ball, so when we blitz the QB sees it coming and has an easy time finding the hole. Even if we are playing a bail coverage id like to see our corners playing 1-2 yards off the LOS instead of so far back.

One thing that surprised me yesterday is how consistently Hooker threw his screen passes really high. We housed a handful of those last year, but each was thrown just right to spring the receiver.

If he can just calm down and get those screens down, it would make a huge difference. We still made nice yardage off of them, even though Hyatt was jumping 3 feet in the air and wasting precious time. Give it to him right in front and he'll turn those into 10-20+ yard gains down the road.

We can only go up in some regards. It's exciting.
Noticed he was throwing high on those screens in the ball state game as well

Winning a big game like this is huge for a lot of reasons, but it's also nice, as a fan, to just enjoy a good win for a couple of weeks.

How many times have we lost that game? We know how those seasons go. We are forgotten about for a stretch of the season or have to scratch and claw to 6 or 7 wins. The whole time being the butt of the joke or having to deal with national media or b-team broadcasters write us off or half-ass call our games.

Only a few times since Fulmer have we started out on the right foot with a statement win and our goals still within reach.

Pitt was trying to define us too and set our identity. You heard them calling us pretty. If they won that game Narduzzi would have some postgame punchline about us being the pretty team, and then the stupid media would have ran with it and we'd hear how soft we are all season.

Instead, we beat the hell out of them. I do hope their QB(s) is/are ok, but they called us soft and found out the hard way.

We found a way to win and we are still a dangerous team with a potent offense that can put anyone on their heels. Our defense just showed growth as well. Our special teams has a coach that won't let them do what they did last night again.

It was tough to get through but we have something to smile about for a couple of weeks, while we can watch everyone else deal with their individual crises.

I wish I could give this post more likes. This was a huge win for the entire program. This team…man, I like ‘em.

Because I look at comparative scores.
I know they don’t correlate in every situation but I think they do the majority of the time.
When evaluating how good Pitt is, I look at who they barely beat but were outplayed by (WVU) who just lost at home to perennial doormat Kansas.
So last year, when Florida beat us by 20 + and then Kentucky beat Florida, we should have lost to Kentucky by 20+, right?

I'm interested in hearing the opinions of all the folks on here that earlier this week were saying we were gonna drop 50 on Pitt, we were gonna kill them, we were gonna run for over 200yds, gashing their weak defense all day, that their DB's couldn't handle our big physical WR's... what is your take now that the dust has settled from last night on where we end up at the end of this season?

I really hope this was just a perfect storm of sloppy play and we get it fixed... I will be first in line and will be more than excited to say I was wrong, we fixed the issues, got into a flow/rhythm, and are kicking butt...

Simply just not seeing it at this point after last night.

Things are never as bad or as good as they appear, especially looking at one game. That game was as sloppy as any game I've witnessed in the Heuple era. I can't imagine that is going to be the norm going forward.

The best thing is, as bad as the play was at times, they still managed a win. It's much easier to correct those things after a win, a close one at that, than a loss. Coming close to losing is the best motivator to fixing things.

Best thing to do is look forward not backwards. Fix things against Akron and two weeks of practice and get ready for the slimey, cold blooded creatures from swamp land.

I think the overwhelming majority of Tennessee fans are walking on sunshine this morning.

Anyone complaining this morning is trolling.

Oline was really dissapointing last night.
I wasn't particularly pleased with the oline play either but when you consider what Pitt was doing it makes it a little understandable. Pitt's strategy was to send one more than you could block. They were not going to let us run the ball. They were playing up on the receivers so they could help in run support too. They were going to make us beat them over the top. They were counting on getting to Hooker before the long ball could develop. It was a good strategy that almost paid off.

I was over a hundred pages behind. I realized that there were way more posts in the RF about non Tennessee games than the Tennessee Volunteers.
I said WTF and started skimming. Then I realized that it was only getting worse. I thought eff it and went to the end of the thread, backed up some pages and ta-da here I am.

I brought 15-0 🤠 with me.
I’m only 53 pages behind….

These announcers are actually pretty good. I got nervous when they were shown eating pizza, but they never missed showing a play… much more professional than the Looney Toons ESPN announcers from last week.

Can Tennessee pay for the announcer crew? I could actually listen to this group.
I think McDonough and Blackledge are way better than Danielson and whomever they trot out there with him this year.

I agree

Preach. Everything went against us and we still won.

Watching the fla/uk game last night, everytime the fla rb had a rush, they kept cutting to his family in the stance taking away from viewing the game. It was beyond annoying
