I know. Two games. I just think he looks off and not nearly as sharp or calm as last year.

Forcing a lot. Over throwing. Missing high. Seems really anxious.

I just wonder if the best hooker we see was last year’s version.

Maybe he is at his ceiling but he’s a QB that can win us a lot of games in college. He may never translate into a pro-ready QB but there’s a lot of those types of players have championships.

There are quite a few of those throws that should have been caught, hitting players in stride that they drop. Many of the overthrows may be him putting the ball where only his receiver has a chance, this keeping it out of harms way. That is what a good to great QB does. Hendon is fine and so is our program with him at QB.

I think one thing that is slightly overlooked about last night’s game is that even with how many throws Hooker missed and how he continues to have some rust….he still took care of the football. His football IQ does not get enough credit. Our OL was porous a lot of the night and he took some big hits and didn’t fumble. He also continues to rarely ever throw a pass that can be picked off. After 4 years of JG, I have come to really appreciate the small things like that.

Some of that has to do with the style of offense that we run…. We are not asking the qb to fit the ball into tight windows… the most ints a qb has thrown for Heup was 7 and that was a true freshman…. We have a lot of things to clean up but much better trying to do that after a win than a loss.

Heupel is in year two of a program that was in utter shambles about 20 months ago. Narduzzi is in year eight and coming off a conference championship. And we beat them at their place while making several costly errors.

Though not quite as high on the defense. There were positives and we looked great vs the backup. But we do forget the H1 yards allowed quickly too. All 300 of them. Now, hats off to our pressure that (in a roundabout way) ended up helping us win. But if we face a full game of a Slovis-equivalent qb, that is worrisome. Now, we may only face 3 more QBs/passing offenses that good and 2 are already expected losses, so maybe it's a moot point as long as we can take care of business vs the other 75% of QBs we face.

I hope we face more QB’s like Slovis that hold the ball too long. They won’t make it the whole game just like last night. I’d prefer guys like that vs QB’s that can run.

And their backup wasn’t a scrub or anything. He was a seasoned veteran, not some wide eyed freshman.

and both the OL/DL at Pitt is full of 4th, 5th and 6th yr guys. Also that Dennis kid at LB for them is an NFL player along with a couple of the DL. And we brought the heat all day against their OL. I haven’t seen that in a while.

finding a way to win ugly is a great step. That’s growth. We have lost that same game so many times the last 15 yrs.

One thing I noticed was that we blitzed alot this game…. Maybe we at least are starting to trust the secondary more…. The long tight end pass was thrown to the side that we sent a cb blitz… he was wide open bc nobody filled that hole that we blitzed from….. I hope we keep dialing up the pressure.

App State seems to be one of those programs that's good regardless of who the coach is. Satterfield and Drinkwitz looked good but are struggling at the next level. Now Clark is doing well. He will get poached soon and the guy after him will succeed, too.

Ya know, this really intrigues me. I would love to hear about some theories you all have for why this would be?

It seems like we never get to face a total scrub of a backup. They are always kinda good. I want to face a Nate Peterman in the Swamp caliber backup.

My take is we didn’t play great on offense most of the game, couldn’t run the ball like we wanted, but that defense on the other side was very good. Pitt is deserving of being ranked, that’s a good football team, well coached.

We played very well on defense. I was watching the game with my dad and all first half I kept saying to him with all these shots that QB is taking he’s not going to make it the whole game. Beasley is a stud.

I think it was just one of those games where things just didn’t go our way a lot of the time. But we still found a way to win.

Just imagine if some of those well thrown balls weren’t dropped. Imagine if those tipped passes by the D were INT’s, maybe a pick 6 or two. Imagine we blocked the guy so he didn’t block the punt. Would have been the blowout we all wanted. But at the end of the day we still won. We beat a good football team on the road. We’re 2-0. I slept well last night. GBO!

I think we've lost that game so many times over the last 15 years that I'm just thrilled we finished this game... And it took guys stepping up and having to simply make play after play even after we made mistake after mistake.

As gut checks go... More than a couple guys qualified. Gutty win this program needed to show we're continuing to take steps.

It's not the biggest win ever... But it is, up to this point anyway, the most important W in heupel's short time in the Hill.

One thing that surprised me yesterday is how consistently Hooker threw his screen passes really high. We housed a handful of those last year, but each was thrown just right to spring the receiver.

If he can just calm down and get those screens down, it would make a huge difference. We still made nice yardage off of them, even though Hyatt was jumping 3 feet in the air and wasting precious time. Give it to him right in front and he'll turn those into 10-20+ yard gains down the road.

We can only go up in some regards. It's exciting.

I don’t think there is any “catching up.” The offense works, but I think it depends on personnel. Last year, UGA’s front 7 could be man up and stop the run, which allowed them to put more in the secondary to slow our pass game. As long as we have some semblance of a run game to get man coverage outside with big receivers, the offense can work. It’s all about spacing, numbers, and athleticism. Also, a more dynamic TE would be huge.

I hope we don’t get dragon fruit because it’s terrible.

Schematically, I think that Pruitt ran a base dragon fruit with a lot of durian concepts mixed in.

That's exactly right, bend don't break.

The strategy is to keep everything in front of us and force the opponent to put a perfect drive together. In the first half it worked on the drives where they were forced to take FG, threw the INT, and turned it over on downs. Unfortunately we had some confusion on the long run and on the long TE TD.

Even still, our offense is supposed to score more often than not, which puts more pressure on the other offense to play perfectly and score more often.

The offense and ST have a lot to work on, but the defensive plan worked and can work again if the offense can clean things up.

Exactly. I also think this strategy works better with teams that have qb’s that aren’t accurate passing. I think we’ll get tipped pass interceptions against LSU and FLA this way.

I'm interested in hearing the opinions of all the folks on here that earlier this week were saying we were gonna drop 50 on Pitt, we were gonna kill them, we were gonna run for over 200yds, gashing their weak defense all day, that their DB's couldn't handle our big physical WR's... what is your take now that the dust has settled from last night on where we end up at the end of this season?

I really hope this was just a perfect storm of sloppy play and we get it fixed... I will be first in line and will be more than excited to say I was wrong, we fixed the issues, got into a flow/rhythm, and are kicking butt...

Simply just not seeing it at this point after last night.

Man just take the win and move to the next week. We haven’t been a winning program in so long people don’t even know how to appreciate a big win against a solid team. That was 100% a game we lose in recent yrs. we have seen it. If it didn’t play out how we all expected then who cares as long as we win. That’s my take.
