So here is a breakdown of that play. See below on how it should of been ran.

Calloway is supposed to rub Tillman’s shoulder here and is supposed to stay on a straight line which would have placed him at the 32.5 yd line when the ball made it to him. (This rub would also prevent the defender from being near him)

As you can see Calloway starts curling back towards the QB instead of following his line down the 32.5 yd line. (This is happening because Calloway has been focused on the ball the entire time through his route)

The purple line is where Calloway should of been when the ball made it to him. The defender you see would not have been anywhere near him if this was ran properly.

Where Calloway is currently standing is where the ball was dropped. As you can see he ends up at the 30 yd line when the ball hits him instead of at the 32.5 yd line.

Also, the ball would have hit him 2 yards deeper and no defender would of been in the area he would of had more room to run. Also instead of having to gain 5 yds he would of only had to of gained 2.5 yds.

It was not a good route by Calloway and his focus on the ball messed it up. He knew the play was coming to him the whole time.

I understood the concept and realized it wasn’t run perfectly. Yet, the rub worked, and Calloway still had a wide open field to run after the catch.

The ironic thing is that the MSU clip that Harrelson used shows a crisper route by MSU WR’s, but there are two defenders very close by in the middle of the field. Whatever formation was used by Heupel or however he ran away other defenders, our play, while not perfect, was MORE wide open. It was a poor way of comparing them, and our imperfect route was still a great call, if the ball was simply caught.

They went from doormat to top-10. They'll probably run into some trouble vs UGA, and they'll be challenged to stay healthy for the remainder of the season, but I think it's ok to give kudos where it's due.
Better than with Morris for sure but I think the West is down and they definitely need to take advantage of that this year because it’s not the norm…

Currently drinking a russel reserve 12 year barrel pick we did. 128 proof, and post covid, still have zero taste, so it’s going down easy!! Lol
My favorite spirit out there is Plantation OTFD rum. 138 proof lol. Smacks you in the mouth but all you need is two pours and you’re smacked😂

Wouldn’t of even been in the play if it was ran properly but that ball was dropped because Hooker was throwing to a spot and Calloway had curled in towards Hooker instead of going along the straight line path.

Either way it hit his hands and should of been caught. Drops like that are inexcusable and I’ve said that since Milton was throwing the ball. People saying oh it’s because Milton is firing it in there, when really it’s the receivers fault. It hits your hands you catch it. Doesn’t matter the speed.
A toddler catches that ball half the time. I'm not gonna harp on it or use to trash the kid repeatedly. It was ugly. It happened. It's over. Moving on.

But I'm damn sure not gonna be part of the absolutely insane excuse making around it lol.

By today's standards, with the playoff (and probably more teams being included), our 90's run would have definitely qualified as "competing" and we were definitely "close." If you're going to hold us up against Georgia and say that they're competing today then you can't ignore what we did in the 90's.

I know there's a contingent of Vol fans that think they have to keep everyone else in check. You don't have to repaint the 90's, we all lived through it.
I don’t hold us up against UGA. They’ve competed ONCE also since their last NC. My point is we exaggerate our exploits in comparison to our current status. This is from someone who “lived” through the late 70’s as a cognizant fan then the 80’s and your said 90’s. If there had been the same social media there would be the same woe is us declarations to reminisce over.

Seems to me that if you finish in the top 5, you have competed for a championship. Between '85 and '01 that happened 5 times (85, 89, 95, 98 & 01) Top 3 twice. In '96 the Memphis game kept us out of the NC game despite not going to the SEC Championship. Agree that we weren't 2nd any of those other years, but we were in the mix.
That’s final rankings…not pecking order in line to a NC. I remember several of those finishes were ahead of teams that played for NC’s or more meaningful bowl games. 85 we had 1 loss and 2 ties. We only went to the Sugar Bowl because the Gators (our 1 loss) were ineligible for a bowl. 89 I feel there was no one better but we were in the COTTON BOWL…showing our status. 95 we lost to the NC and 01 we had 2 losses and played in the Citrus bowl. We won our bowls.

This needs to be the immediate goal for the program. Get firmly in place as the third best program in the East by beating UK, Vandy, Mizzou, and SC on a regular basis. Get a firm foundation in that space, then build from there to start beating some of the big boys in the conference. We can still accomplish that first step this year, and it starts on Saturday.
Imo this is something that should be doable by year 3, 4 at the latest. Hell we might beat all 4 of those teams in yesr 1.

Wish he had caught it. I think everyone has had a moment like that in their lifetime where a lot was on the line and something this simple collapsed. The staff believes in Calloway and he will have more opportunities. Stuff happens.

true. But it would revolved around 1 team/game most of the time.

96 Memphis would have obliterated this place. Lol.
