Can we just have one thread in the RF that the random drivel from the FF gets dumped into?

Yeah the FF’ers are really mucking this forum up. This place is really going down hill with @TrippieRedd and @Weezer shart posting in every thread. Don’t need outsiders helping out.

Make the RF great again.

Seems to me that if you finish in the top 5, you have competed for a championship. Between '85 and '01 that happened 5 times (85, 89, 95, 98 & 01) Top 3 twice. In '96 the Memphis game kept us out of the NC game despite not going to the SEC Championship. Agree that we weren't 2nd any of those other years, but we were in the mix.
95, finished #2 in one of the polls...#3 in another. That's the closest. Had A real shot at a title in 97, 98, 01. Coulda, woulda shoulda in 96.

I expect our receivers to get better, but if Calloway is your go to player on this route… which it shouldn’t of been. It should of been either Velus Jones or Payton (running this route), then he should know how to properly run a mesh route.

Otherwise you are putting guys on the field who aren’t ready.

Spot on. Not focused on doing his job, which makes him undisciplined. Not who I want to see on the field.

This needs to be the immediate goal for the program. Get firmly in place as the third best program in the East by beating UK, Vandy, Mizzou, and SC on a regular basis. Get a firm foundation in that space, then build from there to start beating some of the big boys in the conference. We can still accomplish that first step this year, and it starts on Saturday.
Feels like that was Butch's plan. He didn't exactly fail at THAT part - building past and beating those other programs through 2015 and the first half of 16.

So all y'all "we'll never be good" crowd, how y'all figure that Arky and OleMiss managed to get ranked in the 2nd year of a new head coach? Both programs were in shambles. Doubt either one recruited well.

Can't say that Heup is the guy yet, but goodness, let's give him at least a year or two to undo over a decade of dysfunction before we bury the program.
Ole Miss was only a few years removed from great classes under Freeze. They accumulated depth and did manage to build a culture in the program under Matt Luke.

Heupel would crawl over broken glass to Oxford if he could drive the offense that Kiffin inherited back to Knoxville.

100% agree with your point about Arkansas though. There's no reason they can turn it around and we can't.

So Dan Harralson wrote this article on how the mesh route UT ran on the 4th down against UF where Callaway dropped the ball was not executed properly....the reason why Callaway dropped the ball? The anticipation of the defenders footsteps behind him....lol

That defender was legitimately 5 steps behind him... What the hell? Lol

Wouldn’t of even been in the play if it was ran properly but that ball was dropped because Hooker was throwing to a spot and Calloway had curled in towards Hooker instead of going along the straight line path.

Either way it hit his hands and should of been caught. Drops like that are inexcusable and I’ve said that since Milton was throwing the ball. People saying oh it’s because Milton is firing it in there, when really it’s the receivers fault. It hits your hands you catch it. Doesn’t matter the speed.

Right. Which tells you that it's possible with the right coach. Time will tell whether we got it right this time, but neither Kiffin nor Pittman had great records in year 1. Give it a minute.
It's going to come down to recruiting.

Heupel explains his message to Jimmy Calloway after key drop against Florida

Our coach can string together a few meaningful words together! What a good motivator and a leaders men that the kids will rally around in years to come.
“Don’t let a moment define you,” Heupel said. “As you move forward, you get to define those moments. Your practice habits and how you approach everything you do ends up showing up. That’s a young guy that did a lot of really positive things early in training camp. You guys heard me talk about him. Missed some time, has come back, has missed some practices. At the end of the day, when you’re on the field you have to play a little bit cleaner. Did some really positive things the other night, too. The things that weren’t so positive, everybody can see. Continue to come back and be a great competitor and have great practice habits, that will lead to a successful moment when that moment arises.”

By today's standards, with the playoff (and probably more teams being included), our 90's run would have definitely qualified as "competing" and we were definitely "close." If you're going to hold us up against Georgia and say that they're competing today then you can't ignore what we did in the 90's.

I know there's a contingent of Vol fans that think they have to keep everyone else in check. You don't have to repaint the 90's, we all lived through it.

Let’s not anoint Arky yet, they beat Texas who has either looked like world beaters or rolled over depending on the week the last few years and TAM who really didn’t beat anyone and has a name only ranking but has looked suspicious at QB all year, see Kent St game for reference… Arky’s next 3 games will be telling….

They went from doormat to top-10. They'll probably run into some trouble vs UGA, and they'll be challenged to stay healthy for the remainder of the season, but I think it's ok to give kudos where it's due.
