Holy moly. If you read the entire article, he also embeds a video of MSU running the mesh correctly. There are defenders closer to the WR in that video than the defender behind Calloway.

So here is a breakdown of that play. See below on how it should of been ran.

Calloway is supposed to rub Tillman’s shoulder here and is supposed to stay on a straight line which would have placed him at the 32.5 yd line when the ball made it to him. (This rub would also prevent the defender from being near him)

As you can see Calloway starts curling back towards the QB instead of following his line down the 32.5 yd line. (This is happening because Calloway has been focused on the ball the entire time through his route)

The purple line is where Calloway should of been when the ball made it to him. The defender you see would not have been anywhere near him if this was ran properly.

Where Calloway is currently standing is where the ball was dropped. As you can see he ends up at the 30 yd line when the ball hits him instead of at the 32.5 yd line.

Also, the ball would have hit him 2 yards deeper and no defender would of been in the area he would of had more room to run. Also instead of having to gain 5 yds he would of only had to of gained 2.5 yds.

It was not a good route by Calloway and his focus on the ball messed it up. He knew the play was coming to him the whole time.

So all y'all "we'll never be good" crowd, how y'all figure that Arky and OleMiss managed to get ranked in the 2nd year of a new head coach? Both programs were in shambles. Doubt either one recruited well.

Can't say that Heup is the guy yet, but goodness, let's give him at least a year or two to undo over a decade of dysfunction before we bury the program.
We've seen every team in the SEC go from cellar dweller to 9 wins except Tennessee .

Even the 1951 team lost its bowl game…..there wasn’t a true champion until 1998….
And revisionist history has us an annual contender. Peyton’s senior season we had an outside chance but no way either the AP or UPI pick us over Michigan. That’s it.

Most people when they say competing championships means like the 90’s….. not that we were in the championship but they we could potentially make it.

Legit info is to be determined but considering the emphasis the new coach and AD puts on stopping leaks - Im skeptical of someone popping off claiming to have a source that spoon feeds him daily updates of everything that happens at practice.

Nevertheless, you’re welcome to ignore me if you want. I don’t really pay any attention to anything you post.
Welp he was told about PRP treatments lol so his sources must be something.

Also Blayne Toll a guy we were really wanting that went to Arkansas last season then transferred to Colorado in March is once again in the transfer portal (heading to his 3rd stop before finishing his sophomore year).

There is a reason 4 of our 14 commits are all OL guys, I could see this class of 32 (counting transfers) being one where we see as many as 8 OL guys in it.

I truly believe you need to have a lot of OL and DL on your team and hope you have really good depth on both units. I may be crazy but skill players are a dime a dozen. I’m not saying there’s not some skill players that are special, but if you can run block, protect the QB, stop other teams from running and get pressure on the other QB you will win a lot of games.

It blows my mind btw that an SEC receiver especially one that was a QB doesn’t know how to properly run a mesh route. Like come on man. It isn’t hard.

I give him a pass for now because he’s a young player making a position change in a new offense and I don’t think he got good coaching last year. Definitely didn’t get much playing time.

And IIRC he was mostly an athletic wild cat style QB in high school so they probably didn’t incorporate many mesh routes in their generic offense. That’s just me speculating.

Nevertheless - this plays to a point that I parroted Swain on a week or so ago. Part of our QBs/offenses issues has been poorly run routes by receivers and/or receivers looking for the ball too early which in turn slows them down or messes up their routes.

It’s early but I’m not entirely impressed with Kodi Burns thus far.

True except for 2001 but you always felt like you had the potential to be in it.
That word…potential. It’s what we held on to. Didn’t get us into any top 2 matchups. Ultimately if you don’t play in championship games you’re not going to win championships. We played in 1.

I expect our receivers to get better, but if Calloway is your go to player on this route… which it shouldn’t of been. It should of been either Velus Jones or Payton (running this route), then he should know how to properly run a mesh route.

Otherwise you are putting guys on the field who aren’t ready.

That’s not a complicated concept/route/catch. At some point the players have to execute if we want to win/compete. This is the best offensive scheme We’ve had in years. And basic inability to execute is holding us back at basically every position

Never close. Always several ahead of us.

Seems to me that if you finish in the top 5, you have competed for a championship. Between '85 and '01 that happened 5 times (85, 89, 95, 98 & 01) Top 3 twice. In '96 the Memphis game kept us out of the NC game despite not going to the SEC Championship. Agree that we weren't 2nd any of those other years, but we were in the mix.

You were over Lakin, KS (Kearny County). Yes, I spent an inordinate amount of time this afternoon stalking Google Maps to find that landscape.
I would totally do that. Actually, I’m kind of annoyed that you beat me to it.

Back in the days before smart phones, my wife used to always roll her eyes when I’d shove a Rand McNally Street Atlas in my carry-on when we were flying somewhere. I always enjoyed looking out the window at random times and figuring out where we were. Only had roads and waterways to go by so it was a bit harder then, but fun.

Are y’all talking about Callaway or Holiday?
