Tom Herman thread [merged]

I think it’s a good hire. He lost a few games this year by 3 points...there were signs he was close to turning the corner. I know a loss is a loss. But JP was never close to being competitive.

I am only going to post what I have facts on him and not what a disgruntled player or booster said. When you study his coaching profession he has succeeded offensively at every stop. the man knows how to coach and succeed at this major college level. His issues were Defense. He never found the right hire to run this side of the team and so his losses which close were on the d Coach and staff. So he needs a reliable D Coordinator who knows the SEC and can recruit the players needed (Steele) and assemble D staff (Steele) you may have a big winner here. In CHRIST Alone.

Probably a pipe dream considering how big a dumpster fire we are. But without having to compensate Pruitt and with healthy conference revenues coming in, maybe we could make it worth his while financially. And our expectations for success versus what he encountered at Texas - well, we're so battered and bruised we'd build him a statue if he could repeat what he did in Austin.

Barnes basically fell in our lap, for those who see the inevitable comparison. Coming here after our Sweet 16 run was not that big of stretch, thankfully. Getting Herman here WOULD be - and would take a ton of skill, commitment, and money to make it happen. But our never-ending experiment of hiring up-and-comers is a proven failure on the football side. Such is the real lesson of the inspired hire of the proven Rick Barnes.
At this point I’d take him. Maybe the biggest question is WHO WILL TAKE US?

I would take Herman in a heartbeat. He'd very given security and a much longer leash than what he had in Texas.

Plus, apparently he reach out to USCe to express interest in that job opening before they wint with Beamer Jr. If he would have been happy with them, you have to think Tennessee would be an attractive opportunity

If he wins i don't see the problem
Devils in the details. What you accept as winning may be far different then the University. What if he wins four games? Five? Six? IMO if he wins 5 the University would hire him full time. Not good.

Op said if he wins he'll be head coach never said how many wins

Herman can bring Herb Hand with him as well. Steele can hopefully be the defensive piece he was missing, he can bring Rodney Garner as was rumored, and we can figure out the rest of the staff as we go. Still a nice base to go off of. I'm not opposed to keeping Chaney and Martin, and we should certainly keep Graham.

That's exactly my point. Whose definition of winning? You said you were good with it if he wins. What's that look like to you?
Never said I was good with it, I said if he's winning which my thoughts of winning means 9-10 games, if that's the case whats the problem of hiring him full time. I don't think 4-5 games to be considered "winning"

I forgot about Herman's flirt with the gamecocks. Maybe his interest in us wouldn't be such a stretch after all.

The guy had exciting offenses and he wouldn't have put up with JG for 5 minutes. Keep Kevin Steele and let him handle the defense. The other options I've read are mostly non-starters. Freeze? - please, no way.

You and I agree. But I am of the belief that the University would 100% offer him the job full time if we made a bowl.

I really liked Herman as the HC candidate about three weeks ago. However the more I read about his difficulty in dealing with the Texas administration and boosters gives me concerns. I’m also concerned about reports recruits were actively influencing Texas recruits go go elsewhere. I don’t know if what I mentioned above is true or just rumors.
