George Floyd Protest/Riots

So DeBlasio got 0 votes while his campaign was viable (Maybe 0 total) and I presume he has 0 pledged delegates. Nevertheless, “But DeBlasio” is the new go-to defense of Donald Trump.

Desperate times...
Zero votes, zero pledged delegates, and dropped out back in September to endorse the Bern.

This is the second time Brees mentioned Kap and the anthem. He doubled down on dumb. You would have thought he learned something the first time.
I disagree from the standpoint that it doubles down on dumb. If there was something he did that was dumb it was that he spoke about this yesterday when the emotions of the situation cloud everyone’s judgement instead of at a later date. He’s being transparent and expressing his view as how he interprets the National Anthem being played before the game. He got shouted down for being a part of a national conversation because it didn’t align with some players, media and others around the country. That doesn’t seem much like a conversation to me. On the flip side of that, I thought that Nate Burleson on Good Morning Football did a good job of explaining his issue with Brees’ comments and did it in a way that he seemed to be talking to DB rather than at him.

I honestly didn't know CK got the ability to tell Drew Brees what the flag and anthem means to Drew Brees.

I learn so much on VN.

“To Drew Brees” is such a weak defense. If I say I can’t be okay with someone disrespecting the Confederate flag because to me it means equality, I can’t sit there and be like “what? It’s what it means TO ME!!!”

When a racist act happens over and over and over because we refuse to do anything about it, yes, in some way it has been condoned.

But there certainly is a solution where we are more aware of the problem and are more anti-racist than we've been

I keep seeing this false idea that “blacks are being killed by police over and over and over” and that it’s “consistently more than any other race”, but the facts don’t show that. I dare you to provide statistics to back up your claim. You people are basing your views on feelings. The only incidents of police brutality we ever hear about are the ones involving blacks, and you let the media drive you into this false mindset that police are just indiscriminately killing black men, that we have a “racism epidemic”. The facts say otherwise, but don’t let facts and reality get in the way of your victim hood. The chains of slavery were broken, and yet people choose to stay enslaved to a false sense of oppression and racism. Sad stuff.

Drew Brees apologized, $100 million-$150 million is being slashed from the LAPD budget and reinvested in communities of color, and ideas for concrete reform are popping up all over the place. Most of this thread must not be enjoying this morning so far, except for whatever quip they have about how LA is some failing city

The left must be so happy. It’s just wonderful to see that everyone else’s 1st Amendment rights were so successfully used to take away that same right from Mr. Brees and anyone one else with a different outlook or opinion.

Sheesh, I’m not using the three shells. Time to buy more TP and storage lockers.

I mean I know he lost every single district in Florida, Mississippi, Missouri, and Michigan, while he was still in the race, but least Bernie got like 25% of the vote before being portrayed as “the face of the party.”

You can bet his agent was in one ear and his wife in the other , both saying the same thing .. are you crazy , do you have any idea how much money this will cost us ?

I hope someone tells him to keep his wallet closed after this crap.

This.

His statement came across as tone deaf to the current situation. Yesterday wasn't the time for that conversation to take place and he apologized. It's over, move on

He answered a question asked of him by an interviewee probably trying to create a headline. This whole situation stinks to high heaven. So many agendas and opportunism mixed with legitimate concerns. When you strip away the noise, the concepts are pretty simple:

- Protesting the national anthem because there are evil people in the country is just as illogical as refusing to attend worship services because there are sinners in the church building. Brees' comments answered the question without even getting into the stratosphere of insulting those outraged by the criminal act committed by the officers in the GF case.
- There are some bad law officers that need to be culled and punished. Imagine that, punish the guilty. Make examples out of them. Newsflash, bad cops aren't relegated to those involved in excessive violence against minorities. Totally agree with the call for justice to be administered accurately and swiftly against truly bad officers. But quit trying to punish the innocent.
- Most officers are not bad. Quit endangering the LEO's who try to protect our society and are decent honest concerned folks. They could be working to try and ferret out the dishonest and evil from their ranks, but instead they're having to deal with criminals burning and looting and committing violent crimes.
- Newsflash #2 - ANTIFA and other groups who espouse non-democratic forms of government change have hijacked this issue. At least half, if not more, of the current protests have nothing to do with the GF case but are rather attempts by that group to capitalize upon the event and manipulate those protesting. You want racism: I present groups who attempt to manipulate specific races to carry their water by paying them lip-service and then convincing them to commit crimes in protest. That is racism.
- Systemic racism? I saw someone on Volnation try to explain what that was by quoting crime statistics. So the system is racist because white people populated the original legislative bodies that established the laws? I understand racism. I understand how subconscious personal preference manifests itself as racism without intent. What I don't understand is this "systemic racism" concept. It smells like a veiled attempt to undermine our constitutional government. It's not racism because someone doesn't like the definition of criminal behavior. The laws were loosely based on the Biblical principals of right and wrong. So unless God is racist, which is fine if you're an atheist or agnostic but otherwise doesn't fly, that is not systemic racism.
- It is extremely rare that people who distance themselves from criminal activity are arrested. Regardless of race if you associate with dogs you get fleas. You want to avoid this crap, stay clear of criminal elements.
- None of this has anything to do with the President. There has been some sort of civil unrest during almost every administration since Eisenhower. Just because Trump isn't interested in saying nice things (that is defined as lying when it involves a politician) to make people feel better about themselves doesn't make him a terrible president. It seems a lot of folks would rather have someone lie to them sweetly than tell them the truth (interesting, that's not a surprise to Biblical scholars either).
- Boiled down there seem to be three issues and none are limited to any specific race:
> There are evil people in the world and always have been. Some target specific races, some target based on opportunity; but bottom line the common denominator is evil, not race or hate.
> There are people in the world who don't want to answer to any authority and want to be able to do whatever they want whenever and be "legit" doing it. The prevention of this is called civilization, not systemic racism.
> There are people who don't like freedom and are working feverishly to undermine it by any means necessary. Those folks are using this crime to further their cause by manipulating the emotionally invested.

It’s a really bad thing when people can’t speak freely. His sin was expressing a contrary opinion that didn’t hurt anybody. He never said people were bad for kneeling. He just said he didn’t support that particular act and explained why in a thoughtful manner.
Any contrary opinion is racist and wrong. Welcome to the new America.

Why on earth should you continue to assist anyone that browbeats you because you have differing opinions?

Because your “differing opinion” was actually a terrible and insensitive opinion and you’ve admitted as much. Happens all the time.

Adrian Peterson had a differing opinion on beating his kids, I’m sure he still donated

IMO opinion you are 100% correct. I think the only real way to "invest" in these communities without gentrifying them is to come up with some sort of program that helps current residents purchase their homes.
It all means nothing if these communities refuse to put in the work to change themselves.

Based on his comments I wouldn’t be too surprised if Drew Brees has a Jim Crow poster and a rebel flag in his closet.

At the most tone-deaf moment possible, which you left out. He can speak freely, and anyone who wants to be a contrarian right now can speak freely, but IMO they 100% deserve the collective eyeroll they’ve gotten

They are upset that its more "per capita" all the while dismissing their per capita crime rates. Unless of course we are talking about murder and robbery which they a legitimate lead over everyone. Its almost like if you commit more crime you're going to get caught more often.... "But but poverty!!"..almost twice as many Whites "live in poverty"..
