George Floyd Protest/Riots

It's amazing how somebody so close to it could be so tone deaf. He's talking to the kneelers every day. He knows their motives. He knows their hearts. He should know where they're coming from. And he still doesn't get it.
Or he could be hearing from so many kneelers there is no clear or consistent message. Honestly looking at the chaos do you really think it's possible for one person to understand all of this? And we are constantly told white people cant understand anyway.

Occam's razor has no effect on the leg-humpers. Most plausible explanation: our orange boy sucks ass and can't govern his way out of a paper bag. Their explanation: there's a massive deep state conspiracy against our selfless, tireless dear leader who only wants to Make America Great Again.

Ironic post is ironic .. tell us again what city you live in . Smh

IMO opinion you are 100% correct. I think the only real way to "invest" in these communities without gentrifying them is to come up with some sort of program that helps current residents purchase their homes.
Atlanta has tried capping income on new residents and even race restrictions in some neighborhoods. Income cap has been long enough to say it's not really having the desired effect. The race restrictions is fairly new. But that's not a city driven thing either.

Capping income and/or putting race restrictions on owning homes is idiotic. If they want to invest hundreds of millions do it by helping people make down payments or something like that so they have ownership and can build equity.

Wait. What? You're told where you can live and where you can't, based on income and race? Did I read that correctly?

It troubling to me that poor judgement in timing and in wording can destroy 15 years plus of charitable behavior to a city that is as unique and diverse as NOLA is. Yeah he shouldnt have gone down the road he did yesterday, but there was nothing there that was racist . At its worst it was a teaching moment.

This is the second time Brees mentioned Kap and the anthem. He doubled down on dumb. You would have thought he learned something the first time.

It’s a really bad thing when people can’t speak freely. His sin was expressing a contrary opinion that didn’t hurt anybody. He never said people were bad for kneeling. He just said he didn’t support that particular act and explained why in a thoughtful manner.
That is the way political correctness and the cancel culture works.

In my opinion, his comments weren't "insensitive", they were just a wasn't related to the subject at hand. Meaning, the kneeling of the flag was never about disrespecting soldiers, but somehow, the flag is no longer the flag of the people of the United States, but it has evolved into a symbol of the American military. Therefore, you disrespect the flag = disrespect our military. I'm not sure that distinction will really ever be understood by those on the right that are offended and triggered by it, however.

Drew Brees apologized, $100 million-$150 million is being slashed from the LAPD budget and reinvested in communities of color, and ideas for concrete reform are popping up all over the place. Most of this thread must not be enjoying this morning so far, except for whatever quip they have about how LA is some failing city

"In the past 50 years, $22 trillion has been spent on poverty programs. Seventy percent goes not to the poor but those who serve poor people" - Bob Woodson (Civil Rights Activist and founder of The Woodson Center)

This is great and all but throwing money at the situation has been valiantly tried over 50 years and look where we are. There are foundational issues that continue to plague the black community that money can't fix. These communities need strong leaders who will go in and call out their own issues that they need to address and act on it. The change is not going to happen over night but in 10+ years of good leadership they could start to pull themselves out of it. Unfortunately these types of black leaders are continually shot down as "Plantation Blacks" and "Father Toms" from their own communities. With this type of mentality there will be no progress in your black communities.

But feel good about yourself go ahead and put another $150 million into the perpetual merry-go-round.

Families purchase their homes, meaning mothers AND fathers. Anything outside of that will just be another housing project.

Where did he mention Kapernick?

Highlight: @readdanwrite asks @drewbrees what the star NFL quarterback thinks about "players kneeling again when the NFL season starts."@drewbrees: “I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country.”

Brees’ full answer:

“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country. Let me just tell what I see or what I feel when the national anthem is played and when I look at the flag of the United States. I envision my two grandfathers, who fought for this country during World War II, one in the Army and one in the Marine Corp. Both risking their lives to protect our country and to try to make our country and this world a better place. So every time I stand with my hand over my heart looking at that flag and singing the national anthem, that’s what I think about. And in many cases, that brings me to tears, thinking about all that has been sacrificed. Not just those in the military, but for that matter, those throughout the civil rights movements of the ‘60s, and all that has been endured by so many people up until this point. And is everything right with our country right now? No, it is not. We still have a long way to go. But I think what you do by standing there and showing respect to the flag with your hand over your heart, is it shows unity. It shows that we are all in this together, we can all do better and that we are all part of the solution.”

I mean, show me one kneeler who is saying they mean to disrespect the flag and/or the USA? If you can find more than a handful, you'd have a point about message confusion here with regard to my point about respect.

Why? What will he lose? He’ll just be a punching bag for entitled racists for a few days.

Lol. It would be like someone wiping their a** with a BLM T-shirt but saying they weren’t disrespecting them.

He tried to pull a Bernie and alienate over half the party, which pissed off most liberals. Bernie got away with that for a time because he has his Bros to back him up. De Blasio has no Bros.
So DeBlasio got 0 votes while his campaign was viable (Maybe 0 total) and I presume he has 0 pledged delegates. Nevertheless, “But DeBlasio” is the new go-to defense of Donald Trump.

Desperate times...
