2020 Primaries

We could leave HS as an ASE certified mechanic, two years into a welding apprenticeship (I think the same for electrician) or a licensed cosmetologist.
One of the new HS here has a program where you can graduate with an EMT certification.

My point is how shortsighted and dangerous it is to vote primarily on immediate impact to your pocket book.
No one is going to completely forgive all student loans, but there are multiple actions that could be taken that would lessen the burden on the students as well as lessen the windfall to unscrupulous lenders.

Here’s something else that would , put the banks back in charge of it , make them qualify for the loans again , get the government out of it and STOP taking out $120k for worthless liberal arts degrees . 🤷‍♂️

Why would they be responsible for paying a loan they lent? Why wouldn’t the person not be responsible for paying their loan when the terms are clearly in black and white.
Because they knowingly made loans they knew should not be made. Why should they not be partially responsible for inappropriate and unethical decisions?

Why would a lender loan someone 120K for a worthless liberal arts degree?

Passing on Bernie isn't due to an immediate impact on a pocketbook.

Get the govt out of guaranteed loans. Unscrupulous lenders won't be lending unscrupulously if they know the repayment isn't guaranteed. Universities won't be hiking tuition every year because there isn't an endless supply of guaranteed student debt funding their increases.

Of course changes need to be made.
Again, I don't mind seeing unscrupulous lenders take a bit of a hit.

No they didn’t. The ones taking the loans should’ve known what their means were prior to jumping in. Being naive, oblivious to reality, or downright stupid doesn’t absolve one from taking care of their responsibilities and thinking a politician should wash away your debts is downright idiotic. Guess that explains a lot about you as well.

I don't mind seeing predatory lenders lose out. There is a need for consumer protection.

“He’s basically saying to Cuban-Americans, Nicaraguans, Venezuelans, ‘Your pain is not a big deal,’” said Mike Hernández, a Democratic consultant and Cuban-American who said he would not vote for Mr. Sanders if he were the nominee: “I’ll write someone in.”

What about the Universities who offered these degrees at these costs? They are just as responsible as the banks if we are giving the borrowers a pass are they not?
Sure. They should help shoulder the burden of addressing the crisis.

So who is going to eat the trillion+ loss in loans for student debt?

People may want more affordable health care, but they also do not want to lose their healthcare they have and like for something unknown and unproven. The efficiency of govt spending coupled with the speed and quality of the DMV.

I think they should make 401K withdrawals more flexible to help pay off student loan debt without a penalty. People standard of living during retirement could be impacted so it is better to pay now and try to recover it in future years than continue to make it a burden for people. 401K is a person's money for retirement but what good is it if people are using it to make student loan payments.

Totally agree on healthcare.

Who created this “ crisis “ and made it so easy for kids to get all the student loans ? The banks ?
I'd be ashamed if I worked in education and never warned students about the risks of taking on insane amounts of debt. Those students were failed by the schools that were supposed to prepare them for post high school education.

The .gov made it easy for teenagers to take on debt. The .gov actually participates in piling debt onto teenagers. The universities don't care because they know guaranteed money is coming in and they can raise tuition at will. High schools don't seem to care. They're happy to say "x amount of our students are going to college! Yea us!" Is anyone in the process outside of parents warning students that they should consider how much they borrow and will they be preparing themselves to be attractive to employers?

It doesn't look like it.

FWIW I'm all for HS trade programs as well.

May as well start to teach them young.

Also expand dual enrollment. I completed a year's worth of my undergrad while still in High School.

Still in favor of tuition free college/trade school though.
