Do you think bagmen, all over the country, report how much money they give to "student athletes" for attending certain universities? Just asking for a friend.
His point was now there will be problems if athletes don't report income. Can you imagine all the gray areas of trying to make sure you report what you should and not what you shouldn't? And they will come after anyone that does not report something. Imagine your star player loosing their eligibility for a mistake on their income tax return.

A lot of folks will disagree, but I'll say it anyway. I don't think college athletes should be paid anything. Getting a free education at a place like Tennessee or really just about any other legitimate college is invaluable.
The easy answer to that issue is to pay the athletes and have them pay their own way to college. That would be interesting. Most would leave college with huge student loans. Just like normal students. Problem solved.

Let's just be honest with ourselves.

How exactly, in anyway will it "change the game" or the "passion" of college sports? The vast majority of NCAA athletes will NEVER even make it to the professional level.
Just the thought of it has already started changing it for me if I am being honest.

What risk does the athlete carry in college that he/she didn't in high school or even middle school? They take admission at the gate in middle and high school. Why don't they want money at that level? Again, just because a lot of money is generated, does not mean those involved at some level should get more, in my opinion. Do Amazon employees deserve millions because Bezos makes billions? The gov't collects 3 trillion a year, shouldn't I get more? You will never fix an inequitable distribution of wealth, as measured in dollars. However, that experience that these 100 or so kids get every year, that's a form of wealth few will ever know. If you only want to make money, go play in another league. If you want to go to college and have that kind of wealth, go do it and don't whine that you don't have enough. Most people don't have much in college. But, most people look back on college fondly. Why is that?

Again, I'm not strictly against it, but I hope you see my point. I get yours, and certainly won't disparage it. Good discussion and thanks for your reply.
Beautiful

If you don't think there is a difference in professional football versus college football, I really don't know how to respond. To me it is night and day different and I think a lot of that has to do with amateurism vs professional.

Your office analogy is flawed because both in scenarios the actors are professional in each circumstance. They just got raises.

Professionalizing college sports will ruin it.
My optimism on this subject.
There's definitely differences but my favorite difference, I don't think money can change. It's all the players that aren't "good enough". The wild mistakes and goof ups. Watching SC's players trying to tackle your Jennings.

Kids that would never be in the NFL and even questionable for the SEC, blocking a punt or making a tackle and the fans just going crazy.
Granted, the NCAA and money can screw up almost anything.. but even they won't be able to take away what I love most - Kids just being kids and the best fanbases in the world bringing immeasurable passion to the most unlikely of heroes.

It might actually help sort out the "blue blood" mentality a bit.

QB A. can get bagman money to go to Alabama...may never see the field, and only got that money to sign. But If QB A is more interested in being "the guy" and playing ball he can now essentially make money anywhere, and being 3rd string for Bama simply won't pay him as well as being the starting QB at say, NC State.

Most of the recruiting imbalance exist because the winning schools are making the most money and investing it back into the program. But the players aren't exactly being handed that money. They get better exposure to be "noticed" by NFL scouts though if they are at a school that is constantly winning. You give them the opportunity to make some coin just from their own likeness and popularity, well North Dakota State isn't such a bad deal anymore...

At least now they can make good money locally and aren't buried on a roster somewhere competing for a chance to get into the NFL. If anything it might help "school pride" deciding to stay home and build local business connections that will last you far longer than the sport will in the grand scheme of things.
So now there will be more in the transfer portal if they are not the starter?

Once it's above the board it will be regulated. In a blackmarket all activity is illegal but when things become regulated there will be boards in place to make sure things are done correctly. People on this board love college football so I think we sensationalizing the impact that this rule change will have.

No I don't think bagmen are reporting money they give to student athletes and when people get caught they are punished such as the LSU booster who was stealing money from a childrens hospital and giving it to recruits or Nevin Shapiro for the Canes.

Unless Lincoln riley leaves, i see no way we have an edge on Oklahoma in any way really. That’s a brutal game to have early for anyone. They are also a really young team too.

8 of their Starters on offense including their entire OL are FR or SO and half their defensive starters are freshman and sophomores.

I know they lose Hurts but at this point, does it really matter who’s QB for them?
If Lincoln Riley leaves Oklahoma, they'll find someone just as good or better. That's just the way that football program is run. They do it right.

So you think this will stop what is happening now, it will all be regulated and controlled, and see no problems with all the ways this can be abused? I hope your right. I can just see too many things that can go wrong.

We basically have more money than any school in the country. This rule can only help us lol.
That's not true. Lots of universities have more money than we do. We probably have more debt than most schools. We do lead in one area though. Coach buyouts :cool::cool:

"Muschamp needs to go!"
That's what I like to hear about the urinal cake. Spread the word.

LMAO. I love how he starts with "Tennessee is a terrilble team!" pauses and then thinks for a second and says: "Well, not terrible...they're actually decent now..." and then goes back to his rant.

Oklahoma is one of those model programs for me. Stability at the top, and everyone wants to win. Whoever they hire after Riley will probably be a slam dunk.
