It will just snow ball from here... 10 years from now players will be bricking that they can’t have their own shoe and brand deals and next thing you know Nike and addidas will be sending kids to their schools for a guaranteed deal when they graduate or leave for nba/nfl it already happens in basketball and you would be dumb to think Bama Duke Kentucky etc. aren’t going to be abusing this. It’s just going to make everything worse... it’s not going to be as simple every student gets this much... college sports should be amateur sports.. I guarantee schools will be boating about how much they can get their athletes in money and how much this and that and I’m sure kids will transfer because certain fan bases but more jerseys and or another school can get them setup on endorsement deals blah blah blah. There will be no level playing field.

I don’t think they should be paid in college, but I do believe they should have the opportunity to turn pro at 18 and make a living if they choose.
This would be better honestly... if you’re good enough go pro if not go to college get your degree and still have professional hopes once you develop.

You can’t do it legally and you won’t be able to legally under the new rules either

That’s the only point I am making
What is illegal about it? Only if 1 individual gives them over 15k they should file a gift tax return. Outside of that, nothing illegal about giving a recruit your own money.

A lot of folks will disagree, but I'll say it anyway. I don't think college athletes should be paid anything. Getting a free education at a place like Tennessee or really just about any other legitimate college is invaluable.
I'm going to say this anyway...you sound brainwashed. I surmise that you are an employee👁

They can through other leagues. The NFL, as a private organization, has decided they don't want to make multimillion dollar investments into 18 year olds. Smart iyam, but as far as the kids they are free to be a pro at 18 if any league is willing to pay them.

Against ncaa rules Illegal
1) Exactly, none of it is illegal. Only against NCAA bylaws...that has nothing to do with laws.

2) Even within NCAA rules, I don't know that paying a recruit is against NCAA bylaws for the payer. Wth is the NCAA going to do against a private individual anyway??? They have no authority in public. Afaik it only makes a SA ineligible. It is against rules to take the payment.

I don’t follow the relevance of what you are trying to say.

The only point I am making is the ncaa Is going to continue to have rules in place where it’s not “legal” for a player to accept $ to go to a school or stay at a school.

The ncaa will have a regulated process for players to follow in order to receive compensation for a service and there certainly will be checks and balances to make sure it’s a fair wage.

And of course there will continue to be “illegal” forms of cheating which is nothing new

Maybe. The board asked the divisions to come up with transparent and enforceable rules. We will see.

I think everyone will continue to get paid as usual, just more "above the table". I think states and feds just want to get their taxes. That is the ONLY ultimate change here.

A portion will be recognized, reported, and taxed. The rest will continue underground. Just like the drug market...no reason to bring it into the light unless investigated or crazy amounts need to be laundered. These kids won't make enough to need laundry services.

Why are you so worried about taxes?
It's the only illegal thing typically happening across the board (having to do with paying players).

Things like this makes me think of Al Capone. Dude did a million illegal things - murders, bribes, extortion, racketeering, etc...and he got busted...for not paying taxes.

So any kid that receives a scholarship should not be allowed to earn side income or start a business? Why are athletes (often football and basketball players are exclusively singled out here which is really effing shady) separated from EVERY OTHER student in their ability to earn income? This seems anti individual freedoms.
Because this is a game and not a f'n donut shop.
Many kids recieve full scholarships and can still earn other income. Yet you disagree SAs should be able to. So, do you believe 1) no scholarship students should be allowed to earn other income, 2) SAs should be able to earn other income like all other scholarship students, or 3) SAs and other scholarship students should be fundamnetally treated differently?

So you want players busted for not paying taxes?... Like Al Capone?

Ok...how is it worse than the current situation? Explain how it 1) would be different and 2) worse for CFB?
SMH...not gonna do it. This sucks and I and others have already shown why. You just don't wanna hear it. And don't give me that crap about how much you care about how these poor pitiful slaves that are forced to play a game for a measly scholarship worth a fortune all by itself, much less the high quality training they get to further their professional aspirations...whoops...I'm sorry I forgot...now this IS the professional aspiration for what 95%+ of college athletes..

Good luck with that..I wish any kid that wants to could myself. Stay out of college sports if you don't want an education.

And we are the ones who will get screwed...the ones who make any of this possible.

Haha nah not about the players (as long as payments are considered gifts). More about the bagmen. I was replying to Bruin and saying within the current system people avoid taxes from the payer's side. The newer system would likely bring some of this money to the surface and taxed. Similar to any black market coming to the surface.
