But again, why would you hold off hiring a guy you want to be your coach so that he can help recruit for another team? Because that’s what’s happening.

You hire your guy and he recruits for you. Maybe you make a deal where he coaches for the other team, but that’s it. You need him recruiting for you like Pruitt and Sherrer did last year.
Cant think of any logical reason save that we may move position coaches or fire them after ESD

Its why I don't know why everyone is freaking out over Rush. He can't be hired in an on field role with JJ Peterson on our roster.
He cant be hired in an OFF field role is the rule. See below:

Going forward, an FBS school can hire a high school coach as one its 10 on-field coaches, but cannot add one to its support staff - which is a critical professional stepping stone – unless the college has not recruited one of the high school coach’s players in the past two years. And if the college does hire the high school coach, the college then cannot recruit a player from the coach’s former high school for two years, making it essentially a four-year window, two years in each direction.

I'll be honest...................Chaney would make sense to me from everything that has been said.

I still go back to the Bailey commitment and maybe I just am not familiar enough with him to know, but that commitment tells you that a hire has already been made doesnt it? Does Bailey commit at that time to us without a OC? At the very least you would think he would just wait no?

I gotta think that if you tell any kid the name, that between him, his family, and his friends, it's guaranteed to leak. And that can cause complications when there's obviously no contract signed yet.

Does anyone else think Mike Gundy is the college equivalent of Jon Gruden sans the ring?

So Gundy is taking the place of Gruden in our hearts? Fire up the Gundy engines boys cause he's comin' to Tennessee. Maybe he can bring his OC with him :D:D:D:D:D

I apologize if this is a dumb scenario but what if the person we're gonna hire wants to keep it on the down low so he can receive a bonus for coaching in the bowl game/playoffs and is afraid his current employer will fire him before then if he is announced as our OC before then.

Only reason I have hope for what Matthews is saying is because it was obvious Helton was out the door with weeks left of the season. At least leaks of him & Pruitt not meshing well surfaced.

I refuse to believe Pruitt didn't have some sort of plan in mind well before the end of the season to replace him. As it looks now, he is either completely unorganized and lost or he has had a consistent plan he has stuck to and didn't care what story line the fans/media built on their own.

For every story you hear about the guy, most say he is intelligent and calculated. I don't see why it would be any different here.

I'm frustrated with the timeline like everyone else. But I'm holding out hope he & Fulmer are in their zone and leading the program in the right direction.

off field, he can on
We keep getting this, but it's the off-field job that's prohibited.
He can be hired

I misread it. Apologies.

The interviews to learn offenses yor are facing makes sense to me. Low told Swain this morning that Saban would do this very thing to learn things tonuse and how to defend. It's matches with Pruitt being upset with the 3 names Friday getting out because it could have been one or 2 of those were for that reason.

He had trouble stopping the spread offense that. An downhill power run this yr like Mizzu. Guess whose offense that is? heupel. Guess who works for huepel? lebby

@butchna Need the PDF...
Only part you need:
In bowl subdivision football, during a two-year period before a prospective student-athlete's anticipated enrollment and a two-year period after the prospective student-athlete's actual enrollment, an institution shall not employ (or enter into a contract for future employment with) an individual associated with the prospective student-athlete in any athletics department noncoaching staff position or in a strength and conditioning staff position.

He had trouble stopping mizzou because of bad tackling, failure to shed blocks and generally overall putrid effort by the players on the field....not because he didn't know what Mizzou was doing..c'mon man

So basically we have had our OC search completed for over a week now, and all of us have been freaking out for no reason...

So who’s feeding info to Hubbs/Price/Brice and who’s feeding info to Matthews? Because they are all clearly on 2 ends of the spectrum. Has anyone asked Hubbs about what Matthews is saying? @RonSwanson

So are we equating Tulsa to Tennessee? Tulsa, UAB, Alcorn State, West Texas tech, this are schools you go earn your stripes, not Tennessee.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Tulsa would beat Tennessee right now and we're gonna get our shot with UAB next year. We are nowhere near a powerhouse anymore. Only in our minds.

You can leave him on the road if you wanted.

But there’s no scenario in which you wouldn’t want your offensive coordinator out on the road selling his message and vision to recruits. That’s ridiculous.
He's saying the future OC is not yet available available to start working before ESD, so announcing him now would require us to pull a current recruiter off the road without being able to plug the new OC in the same position.

Thanks, makes more sense now
