Is JG the best QB in the SEC East?

I like JG, I think he’s tough and talented. But I respectfully ask, did you watch both play on 9/22? One had 3 TD’s and zero picks and his team won by 4 TD’s. The other had two picks, a lost fumble and didn’t finish the game due to being sacked/hit/hurried all game long.
And since then Franks has looked lost and JG seems to be growing up.

Dafuq? You said he was 8/8 on third downs and that was 100% and I said no ****. Own up to the f up.
Wrong again. The 8 for 8 is for specificity and the 100% is to stress the perfection. The only f up was your attitude and sarcastic remark because you had nothing of value to add.

Isn't it ironic , don't you think.Dobbs came out of HS as a Pro style QB and was the best running QB ever at UT Conderege was great but way behind Dobbs in rushing numbers.
JG comes in as top dual threat QB out of HS and has a great rifle arm and toughness in the pocket but is equivalent to some of the worst UT running QB's.

Is JG the best in the east ? Uh no and it is not even close. He is a nice QB but he still has too many weaknesses in his game. He has shown good intermediate throws but his long game still sucks. Every long throw is a receiver slowing down to catch a ball instead of hitting them in stride. They have lost several TDs this year because of it. He still holds the ball too long also. He's good enough to win games but I'm not seeing the greatness yet that people are proclaiming. I hope he continues improving.
They are teaching him to throw back shoulders right now, so only his guy can get it, they are building his skillset in an incremental way, give it time.

I get that you don’t like Franks, but you can’t just throw stuff out there that isn’t true. Lost? Franks has won three straight since then, including huge wins against Miss State and LSU. He’s gone 53 of 87 (61%) for 664 yards and 3 TD’s since then. Franks’ turnaround has been incredible so far. He’s second in the league in TD passes trailing only Tua. It’s amazing what Mullen has done with him.

But I can. I don’t care about your numbers. I can prefer whomever I want and I would take JG all day long over Franks.

Well, actually it was the conversion rate percentage of 3rd downs with 8 yards or more to go that he was 8 for 8. I couldn't tell if you were being sincere or sarcastic, but since there was no blue font I'm giving you the benefit of the faith. But if you were trying to be sarcastic and just failed to use the blue font, thinking that 8/8 and 100% were redundant just because they're equal, then the joke is on you when a system you rely on fails and there's no backup because of how ridiculous the concept of fault tolerance was to you.
No, I reread your post and 8/8 3rd down conversions for 100% is redundantly redundant and typical of the VN thought process. Had you put an additional modifier on the 8/8 then you would not have to ineffectively defend yourself.

Fair enough, I’d prefer Tua, but based on results in a Franks v JG debate, I’d take Franks. I respect that you’d take JG. Moving on.

Tua isn’t in the East.

I realize that, I was speaking generally. Odd thing about the east is that I don't think there is a single school that is completely satisfied with their QB play, but I don't think anyone in the East would trade their starter for another one in the East. Maybe Kentucky would trade their guy for say, Lock?

JG is off my sht list and officially my favorite Vol on the roster.

The kid still has no concept of a blind side rush but Idgaf. He’s been hit by the best and keeps getting up. Here’s to rubber band man!!
I think you’re mis-interpreting his “lack of a blind side rush concept”.....the kid has courage and doesn’t mind standing in the pocket and taking the hit to let the play develop/allow his receiver to gain separation. That seems abundantly obvious to me.

Oh GAG!!! Best in SEC? Boy has one W under his belt. Big Woop!

What I wonder though about QB G is how much of his success this past Saturday is the cause of good QB coaching? (vs him just knowing how to heave a ball)

JG has a higher completion %...64 to 56.6

JG has a much higher yards per attempt (9 vs 7.7) meaning that he throws the ball far further upfield per each pass attempt than Franks, which makes his completion % even more impressive

JG has only thrown 2 ints in 6 games, both coming in one game vs you guys, one int which was an incredible fingertip catch 50 yards downfield by your DB. He hasn’t had a turnover in the other 5 games. Franks has 5 interceptions in 7 games, and has thrown a pick in 5 of his 7 starts

JG has a higher passer rating than Franks, 152 to 143

Franks has a lot of TD passes for sure, but he’s also attempted about 60 more passes than JG. And 5 of his TD passes came vs Charleston Southern and 3 more came vs what was a feckless TN defense when they played. Conversely, JG could easily have 9-10 td passes in one fewer game thus far, if 3 50+ yard completions early in the season that put TN in the red zone hadnt seen our WRs get tackled short of the goal line...and if our OC hasn’t chosen to run the ball over and over again from in close.

Franks is a better runner for sure, although he’s far from great there. But Guarantano is hands down better throwing from the pocket.

So, to each his own, choose who you wish....but they numbers strongly skew towards JG.

Idiotic post

All QBs are only as good as their supporting cast. JG doesn’t look nearly as good if our WRs don’t make some incredible catches. And right now JG certainly doesn’t have the NFL prospects of several other QBs in the SEC. He’s improving and taking care of the football. That’s all we can expect of him. Lets not add to the pressure and proclaim him the best QB in the SECe. We all know that people will be on here next Saturday night saying how terrible he is after the drubbing we’re going to take.

Defend myself? From who? You? From what? Your false accusation? If I ever did have to defend myself, you can bet your hind end it wouldn't be ineffectively. This thread topic isn't about my communication skills or your opinion of them. So let's not waste any more of your time or mine on that topic here. This thread is about QB Jarrett Guarantano being the best QB in the SEC East. You see who earned inclusion on the PFF College National Team of the week with the highest rating of any offensive player named to the team? You should enjoy reading it if you haven't already because the writer wasn't redundant and just left it at 8-of-8 on 3rd and 8 or longer. Enjoy!

Guarantano named to PFF College National Team of the Week
