Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/t...-believes-joshua-dobbs-go-high-round-2-draft/

A few months ago most on here were citing Mel Kiper Jr. and many other analysts that said Dobbs would be a 6th-7th round pick. I said hold on. The draft process was only beginning. That NFL people had not yet even started properly evaluating guys like Dobbs. And I predicted that Dobbs would improve his draft stock tremendously by performing well at the senior bowl, the combine, and his pro day.

I said in the end he would be viewed as a solid 3rd round prospect and that at least one team would fall in love with him and take him earlier than most in the 2nd round. Looks like that scenario is playing itself out right now.

What you said is:

Kiper has no hope. He's the biggest joke in sports.

I like underdogs. Here's to hoping you can silence your critics ;)

D4H has already declared Kiper a lost cause idiot, so this can't be squared.

He is an idiot but I told you guys that the closer to draft day we get the more reliable what they say becomes. Only reason Kiper is saying this now is because he's getting word from scouts and people inside NFL teams that Dobbs is rated that highly.

I predicted this would happen when you were saying Dobbs was a 6th-7th rounder a few months ago.

I said he would go in round 2.

Few months ago? I'll say it now. While he may go as high as the 4th round if someone takes a chance on a great kid and outstanding athlete, I still think he likely goes 6th or 7th round, and certainly not the 2nd.

What you said is:

Where did I call Kiper smart? He's simply saying what scouts are telling him now.

KBVol why don't you be a good boy and up my post from a couple of months ago when I this. I said paying attention to what Kiper or McShay say months before the draft is a waste of time because they don't know what they're talking about. Their only value is a few weeks from the draft when they can relay intel to us from their sources in NFL front offices on where players will go in the draft.

Kiper isn't saying Dobbs is now a 2nd rounder because he saw something new in the tape. He's saying that because he's got sources in NFL front offices telling him Dobbs will go that early.

Well then Kiper's not a lost cause, is he? He's well-connected and is smart enough to listen to his connections.

Are there two different people that post under your screen name? If so, the two of you should chat before posting so that you get your talking points straight.

No chance he lasts till the 4th round. He's a surefire 3rd rounder right now with a solid chance at going in the 2nd.

As I predicted when you were citing guys like Matt Miller before the senior bowl saying he was an undrafted free agent.

And Marquez North wasn't going to make it out of the 4th.

And Kelvin Taylor was the 2nd best back in last year's draft.

You have major issues with words like "surefire."

Mel Kiper as a talent evaluator has no hope.

I always maintained that these TV "draft experts" have only one use. Giving us info on prospects in the weeks leading up to the draft. Trying to rely on them for anything before that is a waste of time because all you're getting is their opinion. And their opinions are typically wrong.

I predicted exactly what is happening right now with regard to Dobbs and his draft stock.

He is right about Mel Kiper being an idiot.

Mike Mayock is pretty good. Otherwise, you're right about TV experts.

Yet you keep posting links to their evaluations.

This shouldn't be difficult to understand, but I will make it simple for you: if you call someone "an idiot" or "a lost cause" or say he has "no hope", then you should never, ever cite his evaluations even if he agrees with you. You may say "a broken clock is right twice a day," but the other side of that logic is "if he's an idiot, and he agrees with you, then you are also an idiot."

I predicted exactly what is happening right now with regard to Dobbs and his draft stock.

You also predicted that Tennessee would be the first 15-0 team in college football history.

As you can see, Butchna values his ego and respect (LOL 🤣) on VN and would like you to stop paying attention to D4H and pay attention to him. Thanks!

You have everybody figured out. You're in our heads. VN is a big chess match for you. :boredom: You pretend to understand sarcasm, but couldn't discern that I was self deprecating in the "some" comment? Quit being a little spaz and overreacting every time someone doesn't appreciate your attempt at a personality. Take some shots at yourself like Glitch and BB and InVol do. You have SO MUCH MORE material. :w00t:

We'll see. I hope Josh goes in the first or second round. Love the kid and it would be great for both him and the Vols football program. Just don't believe it'll happen, still think he's a late round pick, will go no higher than round 4. Again, we'll see.

He is right about Mel Kiper being an idiot.

Then it's probably best not to link to the idiot in order to say "I told you so."

"Mel Kiper is an idiot."

"Wait, Mel Kiper agrees me me? Woo hoo!!! See guys? See? Mel Kiper agrees with me!!!"

All I'm doing is pointing out the hilarity of citing someone as "hopeless" and "the biggest joke in sports" only to turn around and use them in any capacity favorable to your position. It's literally impossible not to look a fool using that tactic. Once you've doused a guy in gasoline and set him on fire you don't go back.

Very true. Like you said, Mel Kiper is well connected. His evaluations though are lacking. He's a hypeman, one of the best, but only a hypeman.

You would have a point if I didn't say months ago that what these guys say in April would be worth listening to.

I got into this exact same argument with KBVol in January before the senior bowl when he happily cited all these "draft experts" that were saying Dobbs was a 6th-7th round pick. I said wait until the weeks leading up to the draft. That is when we would get reliable info on exactly where Dobbs draft stock was. I said in January that we hadn't yet heard from the guys in NFL front offices. I said they don't even start ranking players on their boards until after the combine.

All we hear from guys like Kiper before this time of the year is conjecture. Which is why every year in the draft people are surprised some guys rise and others fall as we get closer to the draft. The truth isn't that guys are actually falling or rising. It's just that guys like Kiper are finally getting reliable info as NFL teams start finalizing their boards. Before this time of the year, they're just spouting nonsense.

Is this the second time we agreed today?

So, let me get this straight: Kiper's evaluations are worthless until he has final word from NFL Scouts, who, according to you, also don't know what they're doing.

Why does D4H keep harping about Dobbs and these NFL talent evaluators? He has trashed Dobbs, said he was garbage. He has also said these NFL guys dont know what they are talking about.

D4H, why do you keep up this charade?

Come on BOT, he was just kidding.....

No one here saw it as a joke including Freak but hey, we HAVE to take HIS word for it don't we?

If you go back and look at what Dobbs did when he had time to throw the ball, you'll have a different opinion. When he got to plant his feet, he was a different qb. If he would have had solid line play all year, he would have had better numbers.

When Tebow got to throw from the wind up he had a different game too.

Just sayin

Stop conflating different arguments. Do I think NFL scouts know what they are talking about when it comes to a players actual talent? No. I still believe that they are pretty bad at their jobs when it comes to evaluating and projecting players. However, I have said they do know what they're talking about when they tell us where guys will be drafted. And that information only becomes reliable in the weeks leading up to the draft.

You guys need to realize my criticism of scouts is mostly about what guys will do on the next level.

Your attempt to derail this thread won't work.

I've been the most consistently positive person on this site about Dobbs and his NFL prospects.

No, actually your tirade tops anything anyone has said about Dobbs. No one here has quite insulted him the way you did. We all like Dobbs, we all respect and appreciate the job he did on the field and off, most of us just have a realistic outlook on him. Most of us saw the passes in the ground. Most of us saw him stare down his primary never looking at a check down. Most of us saw him look like a deer in the headlights occasionally. Most of us know that if this happens to Dobbs, he may not get up:
