Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

Why does D4H keep harping about Dobbs and these NFL talent evaluators? He has trashed Dobbs, said he was garbage. He has also said these NFL guys dont know what they are talking about.

D4H, why do you keep up this charade?

The scouts are slowly coming around to what I've known about since Dobbs became the full time starter at Tennessee. That he's a superstar NFL talent.

So I'm slowly coming around to them in turn.

Tebow was way more prolific throwing the ball in college than Dobbs was. I think Dobbs will likely pan out better in the NFL, but it's not exactly a foregone conclusion.

And you're basing this on what? The knock on Tebow coming out of college was his passing. He was prolific at running the ball in short yardage but definitely not passing

So now that these scouts agree with you somewhat, they are legit? But you called Dobbs garbage.

What about your prediction that Hurd, Sutton, and Dobbs would all be drafted before Barnett? How is that one looking?

I thought NFL teams would be smarter.

I have however not budged from my initial prediction that Dobbs and Sutton will be SIGNIFICANTLY better NFL players than Barnett.

And FYI I didn't know Hurd had a two cent brain. He had pro bowl potential in the NFL. Too bad he's maybe the stupidest athlete in collegiate history.

Your attempt to derail this thread won't work.

I've been the most consistently positive person on this site about Dobbs and his NFL prospects.

You've been the only person who has shown his girlish emotional meltdown for everyone to see while absolutely trashing this kid and the rest of the team.

I do like the idea of Dobbs and the Steelers. They draft him in 3rd to be backup to Ben and take over.

Some other teams I like are...
Arizona (Learn behind Carson his last Few years)
KC (Andy Reid could do alot with him. Alex Smith replacement.
SF I think he could do well in Shanahan system.
Titans backup Mariota needs to stay healthy and both scheme fit.

The guy probably threw for 10,000 yards and 80 TDs in college. He might not have proven to be NFL ready, but it's hard to argue that he wasn't a good college passer.

Edit: I looked it up. It was 9,285 and 88 TDs. Hard as it may be to believe, Tebow is 14th all time in passing yardage in SEC history.

Here's a good question, how does Dobbs compare to T Martin as a passer, a runner, and generally as relates to the qb qualities he possesses? T held on in the league for a few years. How does Dobbs compare?

"Joshua Dobbs (6-3 1/4, 218), who stood on all of his numbers from the combine, was his own quarterback guru, scripting his own plays for the workout portion of the pro day. He started with four go-routes, and dropped each into the bucket. He ended with four go-routes and threw perfect passes about 50 yards down the field."

I don't doubt any of this....but I would have loved to see more of this while he was at UT. I don't think Dobbs is the kind of person to "hold back", so it must be on the OC's play calling or CBJ's lack of wisdom in hiring a QB coach.

A thread a few weeks ago said Dobbs was getting some "pointers" from QB coaches. If so, it looks like its paying off.

He's much better than Tee ever was, in every facet of playing qb, with perhaps the exception of throwing an accurate deep ball....and even that is a wash imo after seeing Josh throw it deep this past season.

Ah yes. The built in excuse you love to use. NFL execs aren't as adept as you are at evaluating talent. Meanwhile you've crowed since the Senior Bowl about how much the Browns love Dobbs. The Browns. The team that gets the draft wrong more than any other.

I hope Dobbs kills it in the NFL. He is such a good kid and representative of UT. I also think he is more talented than most gave him credit for. That includes myself at times. However, he nor the other two players you mentioned were ever going to be drafted before Barnett. It was an asinine statement and your inability to own up to it without ridiculous excuses says a whole lot about you.

Hurd made some bad decisions. He clearly listens to the wrong people.

That said, he was the worst starting running back in the SEC last year, and one of the worst in the entire country (literally Bottom 10). That's not because of his brain, that's because of his lack of talent.

Not that Dobbs has a weak arm, but Tee Martin's arm strength was elite.

Barnett will be drafted before them so...

Say it with me: "I WAS WRONG."

Amazing how the NFL got dumber and it has nothing to do with the actual players.

It was also erratic and consistently inaccurate. He was a career 55% passer at Tennessee with elite talent all around him. He struggled with his decision-making and being able to go through progressions. He did have a strong arm, but it didn't make him a very good Qb. I'd take Josh Dobbs 10 out of 10 times over Tee. Jmo

I've never claimed to know what team will draft him. I've only claimed to know that he will be GREAT wherever he goes. If I had my choice, I would prefer he lands in:

1. Pittsburgh - consistent franchise with a good roster and great head coach......early playing time possible because the starting QB is aging and injury prone....could be an ideal landing spot to have a Dak Prescott style rookie season

2. Houston - a roster that is ready made to win right now....no other QB ahead of him....immediate playing time on a team that could win a super bowl.....could be a Russell Wilson in Seattle type of situation

3. San Francisco - rebuilding franchise with championship pedigree....no legit QB ahead on the roster so immediate playing time is available....offensive genius for a head coach that has worked magic with almost every QB he's coached.....west coast offense also suits Dobbs skill set

4. Cleveland - immediate playing time available....good rapport with Hue Jackson from the Senior Bowl....low expectations since the Browns have been bad for so long

I see him getting scooped up in the 3rd round maybe 4th at worst.

I think Pittsburg, NY Giants, New O, San Diego, KC could all be good spots for him.

I think it would be good for him to go somewhere and sit for 2 years or so before he is asked to start to hone the fine details he needs to get fixed.

Tebow's throwing motion is all jacked up for NFL. By the time his windup is finished and he releases the ball, all 6 DBs on the field and 2 off the bench are there waiting for it. About all he could do was throw the deep bomb like he did to beat Pittsburgh.

Dobbs throwing motion is much better.

I can understand you wanting to temper your expectations but putting him in the same class as Tebow as far as throwing the football is laughable. He improved every year and made big strides his senior year.

Exactly
