2016-2017 Vols

Dane Bradshaw was a banger with some strength. He wasn't a perimeter player at all. Hubbs is a totally different type of player that has more athleticism & skillset. He's not suited for the 4 at all. He's a SG or SF period.

Hubbs' best offensive games come when he's posting up ~15 feet from the basket. The biggest question with him at the 4 is his ability to rebound/defend. He's athletic and strong, but will he be tough enough to bang for 20+ minutes a game?

Those are some of the exact same questions I asked about him a few posts back of mine.

Who said it was the NBA TGO? I think there are others with the same concerns that I have in regards to playing Hubbs at the 4.

You said he's a 2 or a 3 period. IMO he can do fine at the 4 versus most of the (non-NBA) competition. I thought that he played pretty well when he has played at the 4 in the past.

He only played the 4 sparingly because of injury time to Schofield for a few games. Yes, he did ok for a guy that's what 6'4" at PF. However, he's not got the overall game both offensively or defensively to play there all season long. That's my opinion.

Schofiled has been our PF/4. Why would we want to take him out of that role/position since he did pretty well there as a freshman? Hubbs is suited as a 3 or 2 & no other position for any significant amount of time.

He might be suited for a 2 or a 3, but "no other position" is BS. TN isn't loaded with bigs. Hubbs at the 4 can create mismatches.

We'll see TGO. I say Barnes might try him some at the PF but Schofield deserves to start at that position. Wouldn't you agree with that? With Hubbs more than likely at SF & Mostella at SG. Doesn't that sound like the more likely & fair scenario?

TN could have Schoefield play the 3 and Hubbs the 4. At lest while on offense. As I said before I think Hubbs plays best around the paint. I could see Hubbs at the high post and Schoefield at low post. SF is probably the best spot, but I think tht he can post up versus collegiate defenders. Probably not versus the teams in Maui, but then again putting a small group on the floor could present problems for bigger teams.

I'm just disagreeing that he's limited to the 2 or 3. My gosh, look at who's played point... Richardson and Moore. A good coach will scheme to **** with the opposing coach.

I'd feel differently if TN had a lot of size, but since they don't putting in non-traditional lineups can create a challenge for opponents... it could force their hand to pull their 7 footer out of a game if he's not dominating.

Don't forget, Hubbs has had three coaches in three years, injuries, and surgery. I'm not on board writing him off. He could thrive in 2016-17. I'm not going to call him soft either... I'm sure that he could beat me and probably every other poster on this board to a pulp.

It's unlikely that any positions are set this early. Team practices are still a month and a half away.
As far as starters, that search could be more chaotic than last season with this much youth and no real advantage for any player as far as talent.
We could be looking for consistency half way thru conference play.
Best rebounders and 3 point shooters will be the cream that finally rises.

Hubbs success centers around being able to be a perimeter thread that can slash to he basket with occasionally posted up smaller defenders

If he plays the 4 with the approach he did last year he completely waste 2/3 of that. Hubbs can and has been a decent threat from the 3pt line and whatever position he plays this season he must have the Green light from there or his potential is completely wasted

3/4 isn't so important to me as long as he isn't a one dimensional player

He was very successful towards the end of last season playing that role for Barnes.

At 24% how do you figure he's a legit 3pt threat?

This. This. This.

And honestly that concern applies to the 4, 3 or 2 spot. IMO

Xept Turner. I think he's been inked at the pg spot since last Nov. :)
