Where is Alexa headed? [Alexa Middleton leaving team]

"Better" doesn't get you squat if you can't score, and score efficiently. We can't. UConn led the nation in shooting percentage--with Baylor and ND also in the top 5. UT wasn't in the top 50. UConn led the nation in team 3-point FG percent @ 41.5 percent. We weren't in the top 50. Middleton had value to this team as a 3-PT shooter--39 percent. That is a good number. Opponents will zone us again--stupid if they don't--and you need to make 3s against a zone. Who's going to do it, besides Nared? (Oh, since I'm tossing out some stats: UConn also led the nation in team Assist/Turnover ratio. And UT, drum roll, was again not in the Top 50)

MS ST had a better and more experienced person at the PG position... she didn't shoot the three but was smart enough to punch holes in UCONN's NUMBER ONE field % defense repeatedly! So sometimes better is just that ... And better can lead you to a win when you need it too. This is by no means a knock on UCONN as what they did was incredible however a better player can lead you to places you need to go!

IMO that would have been really dirty to her team and school. We were short handed and really needed her. I don't believe Alexa would do that.

IMO it is really dirty of Holly to remain as the coach knowing good and well she's in over her head. And I believe Alexa has had enough of CHW being clueless.

Alexa had a choice to stay on the team with Holly or transfer anywhere else to play the game that she enjoys. Even though Tennessee was her dream school. Unfortunately Holly made it a nightmare, senior to be or not Alexa decided to leave.

Thanks a lot Holly!!!!:banghead2:

And no one is saying tea is the all be all but she will be a way better pg than Jordan and Middleton with Westbrook we will be good and yes tea has to keep turnovers down and shoot better but towards the end of her freshman season she was way better and ppl were raving about her in practice

Just to clarify, I have no problem with Alexa transferring, regret, yes, but still respect for her. My post referred to if she had transferred out mid season when we were short handed and needed her. If she had been sitting on the bench and we had bodies to put on the court, then no problem with mid season. (Now my opinion of a starting point guard, with no true back up, on the current number one team transferring out mid season is pretty low...like below dirt.)

As to whether or not Holly made it a nightmare is either speculation or you have some inside info. If the first, would be nice to add "IMO", if the second, would be nice to give basis for the statement.

I'm sad Alexa is leaving and wish her the very best wherever she goes.🔶🔶🔶🔶🔶

The Nashville Tennessean news paper:

"Middleton wanted to make it clear that the possibility of reduced playing time did not affect her decision."

"That recruiting class had nothing to do with why I left,". "I feel confident in my abilities. ".

Enough said! ????

Well, she can give dat kind of lie to someone who never played basketball in college not me. All of a sudden best class are coming in she realized that Holly can't coach or she needed a championship team or she wanted to play far from home. Rubbish! I always love her game and wish her the best, but don't lie to me..

Oh yeah i agree Cooper is better.... I guess my point is that she is not the be-all fix-all elixir people say she is at PG.... we have no guarantees at the guard position... that is all

who is in this Basketball world can actually compare Tea with Alexa reallyy??

I wonder how close she is to getting her degree in three years an summer schools? Many players complete their degree in three under those conditions and if so she as we know would not have to sit out a year. Or she could decide to attend a university where she wants a specialist masters degree.

You speak as if you have knowledge that Alexa left because of Holly. If so, please state your source, since you are so bold to post it on a public forum.

Yes, TJ should add IMO to his/her comments or reveal his or her source...but I know that the soul intent of his/her every post is to spread his/her Holly hate.

It pains me to see some of these comments. Alexa is an outstanding young woman (understatement) and some of these things could be left unsaid. I'm pretty sad about her departure...but wish her only the very, very best. That's all I can muster up the heart to say right now. 😭

So true. Alexa has played hard, cheered her teammates when on bench, practiced hard, did everything that could be asked of her...and was always a LADY while doing it. The least people could do is be gracious and appreciative. That's the trouble with these boards. Many of the statements would never be said to Alexa's face, in front of her family, where people who know the poster could hear. You get the gist. Anonymity brings courage and knowledge. Yep.

I'm not claiming she was perfect or one of our greatest athletes, but she was important to the team and she will be missed. And on top of that, she gave 3 years to the program. If she thinks she will be happier leaving, then I hope it works out for her.

There really doesn't have to be a reason Middleton decided to leave Tennessee. I figure she will go to a local school somewhere around close to where she lives. I don't think Holly would run any player off she isn't that type of coach.

Everyone talks about Te'a being the rock on the back line... she didn't exactly send fireworks off with her first year... with shooting percentage.... assist to turnover ratio.... I hope she can be depended on.... Westbrook is a freshman.... and she needs to grow into the college game
uhmmmmmm you do realize Te'a was only a freshman?????? Just like you just said Westbrook is a freshman and will need to grow into college game??? You need to think before you type. LOL

We just lost our most experienced point guard and best three-point shooter, and you all seem to think it's a good thing. SMH. And as for turnover-machine, while we have those on the team, none of them are named Alexa, and one of them is the person you're counting on to replace her. And you've really got to be wearing orange-colored glasses if you think a bunch of freshmen are going to upgrade this team right out of the gate.
I've been watching basketball for years and I've seen many incoming freshman come in and make a difference for their teams on both the men's and women's game. Look at what Diamond, Muvunga and Gray did at UNC their freshman year the same thing Diamond just talked about before she decided to come back. If you can ball you can ball no matter if you a freshman or senior.

So are you saying you put her in a rotation at SF with Diamond? Both of them will be on the court at the same time regardless. They will work to get her better at PF if it means the both of them playing. She just needs to get stronger and tougher. She is a tough cookie she just needs help from Mercedes to battle for rebounds.
What are you talking about Diamond is a (sg) and you put Nared at the (sf) position she is no damn Candace Parker. Parker had post skills and guard skills coming into college and could easily play all 5 positions. Nared is not a PF even if she makes it to the NBA. Think for a minute could you actually see her sticking players like Ogumike however you spell her name and Candace Parker in the paint. LOL. Jamie Jared is a straight up (sf). The only reason Holly had her playing PF was because our lack of depth. Now we have other post players gurantee you Holly will have her starting at the 3 and Deshileds at the 3. Jamie can knock the 3 and take other cowards off the dribble. She doesn't even fit the mindset of a PF.

Didn't Diamond start at 2 this year and Jamie at the 3???? Nunn was playing the PF position but she was out of shape and we had no back ups so she had to move Nared to the PF spot. So it does work Diamond is versatile and can play her natural position at SG.

Yes i know that. Please understand that the only thing i am saying has to do with hedging against the prevailing opinion that Te'a is a known quantity back there and she is going to lead us to great things.... She had modest numbers her freshman year and now has a serious injury in the rear view mirror....

Many are saying we will be great at guard because we have Te'a and Westbrook.... i just want to be a bit more measured.

Nared and Dunbar are not power forwards
Thank you I keep saying the same thing. Jamie is a SF not PF. She wasn't even recruited to play PF she is a wing player on day. Now if Holly wants to go with a super small lineup yeah I can see her playing PF but that's not going to happen a lot in the SEC.

I can agree with that!

Can you define ball out!! I would add that many comment that the only one of that group to succeed is Gray. The others haven't even sniffed at success.

i think Alexa has made a good decision for herself. She can be a difference maker at the mid-major level. She wants to play and that probably wasn't going to happen next season in Knoxville. MTSU, UTC, UT Martin are all schools where she could excel. I wish her nothing but happiness and success. I know this was a hard decision for her, especially cause she loved her school so much. Good luck, Alexa <3
