Zimmerman Trial

Again, you ate misstating the facts. It is possible, if not likely, that Martin turned and came back toward Zimmerman, as Zimmerman told the cops. The fact that he was in the immediate vicinity of Martin does not mean he instigated a confrontation.

The 911 transcripts I've read have GZ stating "He ran." at which point TM is totally in the wind. GZ spends more time talking to the dispatcher and at one point stops short of giving his address stating he didn't want to say it aloud as he didn't know where this person (TM) was. He then discusses where to meet up with the inbound squad car.

Considering the above this whole thing should have been over. TM should have been long gone and GZ is off to tell his story to the cops. So why didn't it go down that way? Exactly what happened I can't say but I can easily call it exceedingly strange how, given the above, the two could meet up again without TM having a deliberate role in making it happen.

Should be the case but sadly we have 6 women on the jury. When have 6 women ever come to a reasonable decision in a timely manner?

hog88: "Helllllo ladies. How about you all come back to my place where we can play a little 'hide the salami'?"

6 women (in unison): "How about you gtfo?"

time span of decision: 3 seconds

j/k hog :)

If he had stayed in his car and allowed the police to handle it, he wouldn't be sitting in a courtroom today. Instead, he confronts an innocent person. His comments on the 911 call leads me to believe he thought he was a criminal. You don't confront criminals nicely. His comments on the phone also makes it highly believable that he would try to unlawfully detain him (They always get away with this stuff.) Martin knew he was being followed by some stranger.

Innocent guy confronted by some stranger who believes he's some criminal thug.

Usually doesn't end well.

Stranger who's in the wrong place (should have been in his car waiting for the police) confronts innocent guy minding his own business. Fight breaks out, confronter gets whooped. Shoots and kills guy. Claims self defense.

Had he stayed in the car instead of trying to play cops and robbers, no one would be dead.

His reckless actions ended in him killing a guy that was minding his own business. I call that murder.

You are right that Zimmerman should have stayed in his car, but everything else you said is just wrong.

True. Women aren't ruled by reason and logic, but pure emotion instead. It will be interesting. I wouldn't be shocked to see a hung jury because one or two women refuse to vote not guilty, regardless of the facts.

Then how is Zimmerman getting out of his car relevant?

I do not think it is relevant to the trial, because I do not find anything illegal in Zimmerman's conduct on that night. It is relevant to Safety, when one is observing and reporting potential criminals. The observer does not know if the subject is dangerously violent, so it is important to maintain a safe distance and rely on the police to do their job. Not only did Zimmerman expose himself to a violent attack, he also exposed the home owner association to legal liability and himself to criminal prosecution.

They're trying to establish some mens rea with GZ. One might be able to make some critical observations regarding prudence of closing distance with someone you've described as suspicious in a public area but some have really jumped the shark in trying to all but criminalize the act.

Everything I've read about this key witness, Shantel or whatever, makes me think she's borderline retarded.

I'm laughing at all the idiots coming out and making excuses for her and defending her.

If all this was reversed and this witness was some inbred redneck type, the same people defending this witness would be destroying her credibility.

I wonder if the prosecution will play that video. If not, the defense surely will.

Here is an article quoting Zimmerman during police interviews. It really does portray him as a nut, automatically guilty. Are the quotes accurate and within context? I don't know. My guess is that Zimmerman was being asked to clarify words used on the 2/26 dispatch recording. The dispatcher testified that it was not unusual for people to curse during the calls, and that he did not think Zimmerman's call was alarming. The Esquire article looks like just another liberal media hatchet job.
