Zimmerman Trial

I may be wrong, but I believe Martin's past deeds have been ruled inadmissable.

But if I were the Defense, even if I could present character evidence against Martin, I wouldn't. I would go into as much detail about Zimmerman's injuries as I could, and then I would rest.

I think the State has done an abhorrent job so far and when the Defense has their time its going to be savage. I'm sure the twitter death threats against Zimmerman and white people (wtf?) will really start to take off.

Ya, on second thought, they will probably leave Trayvon's reputation alone. I mean they are destroying the State's case and we haven't even got to the Defense witnesses yet so they may decide that it just isn't necessary to go there. Here is good blog that describes in detail the evidentiary rules of Florida as applicable to this case.

Law of Self Defense – Can the Prosecution Keep Trayvon

Also, that ruling was just for opening and judge not ruled yet for during the actual trial.

Sometimes you have to be mindful of your audience. The jury is 6 women, and I'm not sure dragging the character of a dead 17 year old through the mud is a good idea unless it is absolutely necessary. And given the State's case so far, it doesn't seem necessary to me.

Ya, that's why I changed my mind. I got too focused on what defense could do versus what's wise trial strategy.

Plus, O'Mara's putting on a clinic with this cross-examination right now.

The defense is getting so much information out re: Zimmerman's injuries on this cross, I'm not sure there's anything else they could cover. I'm not sure they need to present a case unless they have a couple of really strong character witnesses (GZ's character, not TM's).

Oh this thing should be decided by the judge in a directed verdict but it won't. Once defense starts putting on witnesses, it's going to make the State look like idiots.

It's funny watching the legal analysts on television try to spin this thing. But then you think of what's going to happen when Zimmerman gets acquitted and all the people that are being misled about what's actually been happening during this trial and it kinda makes you sick.

This thing is out of control. Now Trayvon supporters are claiming this came from Defense attorney Don West's daughter twitter. Assuming this is even true/real to begin with, you leave kids alone.

Just plain disgusting. Thanks Angela Corey! Thanks Benjamin Crump & Company!

You're right in that it never stops. But if it did.......are they wrong? Nope.

Edit: Now the trial isn't over. And I won't be surprised with either verdict but, which is worse? White folk celebrating with ice cream over totally dismantling a moronic witness or black people (and apparently a white kid...) wanting to kill white people over a potential verdict?

I'm about convinced that the prosecutors have been forced by their superiors to try this case. So, they just put on the witnesses and let the chips fall where they may. I just cannot fathom these guys actually going into this case with the idea that they would prevail. "Star" witness with serious credibility issues can't even read her "own" letter? The guy today - Good - testifying that Travon was on top? Why the living hell would you put that guy on the stand unless you were forced. The only thing that makes sense is that they don't want to be there and are compelled to go forward anyway.

this had occurred to me as well.

How quickly we forget that just a year ago, the original prosecutor/DA didn't want a trial in the first place, but that decision was taken out of their hands and the State of Florida intervened.

Now you are seeing what the original prosecutors saw.

B/c he was going to come in no matter what. So they figured it would be better for them to call him even though they knew he had facts that would damage their case in an effort to mitigate them. They are very much trying to win. Just watch how Bernie acts with regards to objections and the like. Plus, they slow walked some discovery stuff and why do that if you are just mailing this trial in?

No, he is very much trying to win but he won't. Especially not now. Basically from here on out, you are witnessing the end of a man's career. Kinda Sad but he should have known better.

Look - no attorney worth his salt will just lay down. They will fight - they have an ethical obligation to zealously pursue the case on behalf of the state. I would also bet that most litigators have been put into this position before - trying a crappy case because they had to. But there is no way that these guys assume they have a winning case in my opinion. Somebody behind the scenes was telling them to slow-walk the evidence etc.... These prosecutors are not idiots - so their proof makes me scratch my head and wonder WTF?

For this witness today - I don't care what you think you can do with the guy to try to minimize damage - you don't put him on the stand. You would try to minimize on cross examination during the defense case but no way in HELL does that guy go on the stand for direct examination. Them's some crazy azz crackas.

This. Based on available witnesses and evidence there just wasn't a case in this particular event.

Also..daughter is kinda hot if it wasnt for those crazy eyes.

I don't see any way that this case will end in a guilty verdict. Too little evidence as to what really transpired. No one knows how the confrontation started. No one knows who threw the first punch.

Do I believe Zimmerman is a murderer? Yes. Do I believe he should go to jail? No. Not if it can't be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in the court of law.

So much like the O.J. case.

Lol what leads you to believe he's a murder?
