Xbox One

I feel the same way. Can't justify buying a console for one game.

I'm a fan of quite a few Nintendo IP's besides Zelda. Mario Kart, F-Zero, Smash Brothers, Metroid, the Mario platformers, Pikmin, Waverace, Punch Out, Excite Bike, etc. For me, there's enough there that I don't mind buying Nintendo consoles but I'd much prefer one less box under my TV and the ability to play those games on PlayStation.

It can't be everything, but having friends who live and work there, they said it does have a lot to do with it. They're very loyal to their gaming industry for whatever reason. Japanese publishers deciding against publishing from the start for the OG Xbox crippled them in Japan from the beginning. No Resident Evil 4, no FF until the crappy ones (13), no Monster Hunters, no new Metal Gear until 5, hardly anything from the Japanese developers for a decade. Now it's too late. And they don't even play consoles much anymore compared to mobile devices, including handhelds. The Apple thing is odd, considering foreign devices dominate the market here in the States. Possibly because Apple always gets first dibs on games? I always had to wait upwards of a year for a game on my Android that everyone on iOS already had. That's the only explanation for that I can think of.

I think design has a lot to do with it as well. That's very important to the Japanese and let's face it, the Xbox consoles have never exactly been the best looking pieces of hardware. The upcoming "S" is probably the best design they've had. Compare that to Apple where ALL of their products are sleek and have a great design to them.

Probably had some impact. I remember there were complaints there about the controller size with the first Xbox. I much preferred the smaller version they released a year or so later.

Nintendo gets enough exclusives that I feel justified enough to buy their consoles still. The Mario Bros. games, Paper Mario games, Zelda, Metroid, and Star Fox franchises keep me coming back; though I'm disappointed there won't be a Metroid game for the Wii U and Star Fox Zero was disappointing.

Also the Virtual Console is still good to me because with it, I've been able to play games that otherwise I would have had to track down used systems to play (or emulate), although I have been rather disappointed with the VC since they seem to release games at a snail's pace.
